Concur on the GSI ultralight filter being a meh cup. But it is dang light and fits in to my snow peak cook set. The other option I like is the MSR windburner press at ~1.5oz. The diameter is almost perfect for my 700ml snowpeak pot and stays stored in the bottom with a mug, stove, lighter, etc on top and inside the pot. Ive yet to find a good, compact, & lightweight setup for grinding.
For your inner cuts a drill or punch in the corners is the way to go. You might also try an abrasive cut off wheel, like on a dremel etc, to make small straight cuts. with the coping saw it’d probably help to have a backing for the material to flex less.
