What year? Apple started using i3 chips in 2010, so assuming it’s 9 years old, that’s still a solid deal especially considering how much RAM and storage it has.

I’d recommend buying an SSD from Amazon (I have this one), booting from that drive, and using your 2TB HDD for cold storage. I do that for my 2013 model and it’s like new.

Here’s the iFixit Guide for replacing the hard drive.

It’s not for the faint of heart – you’re going in through the display, and its easy to scratch or otherwise damage your LCD; or worse, your main logic board, if you’re not very careful.

If your iMac has thunderbolt ports, you could get one of these, which is an external SSD with no performance loss versus doing surgery to put it inside your Mac, but might cost you slightly more than an internal SSD.
