I bought these $25 monoprice cans and my coworker didn’t believe me when I said they sounded amazing for only $25. We did a comparison with some different songs between his beats and my $25 monoprice and we both agreed the monoprice clearly sounded better. Now three years later I’m still loving my $25 headphones. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007SP2CO2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_dVHjFbESXCJQ0

I use these with the V-Moda Boom Pro and although it isn’t the best, it works pretty well for the price and has a detachable cable so that you can easily you use the boom pro in the cable’s place.

Budget – 150 NZD including shipping so about 15-30 for shipping but would be happy with a cheaper one if good value for money

Source – phone

Requirements for Isolation – will be using in public and quiet locations

Preferred Type of Headphone – over ear(like hd598), closed back don’t really want to disturb people with music

Preferred tonal balance – balanced I guessed? Not really fussed

Current headphones – sennheiser h598 cs. maybe a bit more base?

Preferred Music – usually 70s such as the 70s playlist from spotify

What would you like to improve on from your set-up – something that i can wear in noisy and quiet places without being disturbed too much or having others hear my music

Location – New Zealand

Was orginally looking at these monoprice 8323 but wasn’t really sure of much difference between the two styles. Open to other suggestions of headphones

Cheers

Nothing beats a good set of light weight headphones. I’m rocking the monoprice knockoffs since they have a better bass profile. Honestly though, I tried the m50x and can’t tell a difference other than the extra bass when it comes to sound quality.

Get a pair of headphone with a detachable cord and pair it with the V-Moda Boom Pro. My current daily driver is this: https://www.amazon.ca/Monoprice-108323-Premium-Hi-Fi-Headphone/dp/B007SP2CO2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1414409695&sr=8-1&keywords=Monoprice+108323+Premium+Hi-Fi+DJ+Style+Over-the-Ear+Pro+Headphone

And with the Boom Pro, it’s a perfect pairing with no inconvenience. You can always unplug the microphone when you don’t need it and use it as a regular pair of headphones.

Why not get a cheap headphone with a replaceable cord, like the Monoprice 8323? No built in volume control, but less expensive and probably better sound.

Monoprice 8323s are fantastic for the price. Best pair of closed headphones I’ve ever heard under $75, and they really aren’t too much of a downgrade from the ATH-M50s. Cost about $27 on amazon but you can get them a little bit cheaper at Monoprice’s site if you wish, naturally.

If your interested in headphones and or the headphones I mentioned: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007SP2CO2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 — you can remove and replace the cord it comes with should you loose audio in one channel (ear) and or you want a longer (or shorter) cord. You may be able to find this same pair on monoprice for ~$15.

Are these closed or open? Cause they’re the monoprice 8323s but in the questions on amazon people say they’re open. I thought I read somewhere that the 8323s are closed.

I’m looking for a closed pair cause I have the beats solo 2 wireless that came free with my mac but they’re too airy for me. Any cheap suggestions?

But going for very comfy, I might save up some more for the NVX XPT100.

I’ll check when I get home then reply for you. And yeah I agree! I think that’s such an underrated capability for headphones. Also while we’re on the subject you should check these out! http://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-108323-Headphone-Gold-Plated-Accessories/dp/B007SP2CO2
I just bought them for my girlfriend after reading a million great things about them. The sound guy on the youtube channel “Tested” was in a video they put out not too too long ago and all he did was rave about headphones. I learned a ton of shit from watching it, but I’m most glad that I learned of these headphones. Simply the best sound you’re going to ever get out of headphones less than $50. Granted they aren’t the best headphones ever, but to spend $27ish and get this kind of sound is simply unheard of for me. Perfect to give to a SO or good friend.

Heres what you need:

OVER THE EAR HEADPHONES WITH A DETATCHABLE CABLE

I was using earbuds from everyone, skull candy lasts 2 weeks, dollar store lasts a week, apple lasted 4 weeks.

But I literally was buying earbuds in bulk until I found the holy grail.

http://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-108323-Headphone-Gold-Plated-Accessories/dp/B007SP2CO2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1452887028&sr=8-2&keywords=monoprice+headphones

I’ve never had to replace them because any time they get snagged, the cord just falls out.

But just in case, I keep about 5 back up 3.5 to 3.5 cords in my gym bag.

Model doesn’t matter, what matters is that they are modular. make sure the cord is not permanently attached so you can easily replace that for like 50 cents on aliexpress.com (order a few in advance so you don’t have to tap out at the gym)

You don’t need it, but I think you’ll still notice a difference. At least I notice a difference with an Objective2 driving Monoprice headphones.

I say get a nice amp even if others say it’s pointless. If nothing else, having an amp will make the choice easier later on should you start shopping for different headphones.

Been using these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007SP2CO2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1[1]

They are good value for what I paid but they are getting old and im looking to upgrade.

Budget: Would like to keep it at 300 or less.

Source: Surface Pro 3 or desktop. Willing to buy an amp if it would make a noticeable difference.

Isolation: I live in a dorm so decent isolation would be preferred. But I do not want to sacrifice too much comfort because I will be doing long homework sessions with these on.

Preferred Type of Headphones: Full-size over ear.

Preferred tonal balance: Bass takes priority here. I listen to a lot of rap, Trap/EDM. However, I also listen to rock/pop-punk (Blink 182, The Story So Far) so take that for what it is worth.

Currently looking at the V Moda M100’s

Thanks!

I’m afraid the three headphones you posted will most likely disappoint you.

The headphones /u/HartUndSteil posted can all be found on amazon:

Monoprice 8323

Sennheiser HD201

Sennheiser HD202

Superlux HD668B

Superlux HD681

Audio Technica ATH M20X

My personal recommendation would be the Sennheiser HD202

You can save a bunch of money by changing to a cheaper motherboard (from a slightly more reputable brand I might add). I don’t know what the difference is between the corsair spec-01 and 02, but the 01 is $10 cheaper. The power supply you picked was great, but a $10 cheaper unit was also great, so I switched you to that one. I usually refer to this PSU tier list.

With those changes you could afford a top of the line SATA SSD, which I added.

I think you should hold off on that headset. I have it and its kinda shitty. First off the gamer aesthetic isn’t really helping it but it really doesnt sound good for music and the mic’s quality is pretty trashy. If I had to buy a pair of headphones and a mic on a budget, I would probably buy some cheap headphones, like these monoprice ones and get a cheap clip on mic of some sort. The antlion modmic is popular, but it is like $40.

buy anything hifi, either hifi over the ear headphones or hifi musicians earbuds, hifi always sounds amazing, it brings out the high and mid range and sounds vibrant, I’ve been fucking with these monoprice headphones, they’re cheap but they don’t sound cheap I used them for gaming, music, movies, everything. I recently stretched my ear lobes back out again though so I can’t wear them until my ears heal so I ordered these hifi monitor earbuds, they’re also cheap but sound quality and I like that the wires hang down my back so there’s no wires infront of me getting in my way of drumming

> The disgust has to be long lasting and visceral, in my opinion. Like you have an immediate physical reaction and actually dread/fear hearing your trigger sound, so much so that you will structure your whole life around not hearing it.

Hmm, I guess for me it’s just “really annoying”. I think my annoyance has do with Sensory Processing Sensitivity, which is where my brain and CNS process information more deeply.

Like with earplugs on right now, I can hear the ticking of the clock in my room. I can hear it much louder if I take them off, but it’s tolerable as in I don’t fear it.

So I suppose based on the responses here, I don’t actually have misophonia. That being said, I found a really good pair of headphones from this subreddit:

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B007SP2CO2/

They also recommended some pads but it seems like they aren’t sold anymore. Because I do agree, while they are great are blocking noise, they aren’t that comfortable.

Budget – 200 US Dollars or less. I’d consider something for slightly more (like $210 or $215) but it’s more or less not flexible.

Source – My phone, which is an IPhone 6s Plus and a chromebook. Less often, a Windows desktop computer.

Requirements for Isolation – A Lot to Some. I’ll currently be using them at home, which is relatively quiet but I do not want sound to leak out a lot, and once school starts up again I will be using them there, and lots of noise isolation would be ideal for that environment. Because I’ll be taking them to school, something with a very sturdy case would be ideal.

Preferred Type of Headphone – Full size, over-ear

Preferred tonal balance – I think overall balanced with some emphasis on smooth midrange would be ideal. But I’m not super knowledgeable, would love to hear your advice on this!

Past headphones – I’ve listened to these $25 Monoprice headphones for the past 6 years or so. https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-Headphones-Single-Button-Microphone-Controller/dp/B007SP2CO2?ref_=ast_sto_dp
I’m looking for a major upgrade in… pretty much everything. I have had problems with only having sound in one ear, sometimes after just a few months, so I’m scared that I’ll get some more expensive headphones and have this happen. What can I do to prevent this? I’ve heard it’s because the wire twists wrong…

Preferred Music – My top genres are probably opera and other classical music, Folk/Acoustic/Singer-Songwriter, and specifically Florence + the Machine. I also like rock and metal and musical theater, but it’s not quite as much of a priority. The genres I almost never listen to are electronica and hip hop, if that helps.

What would you like to improve on from your set-up – Pretty much everything — more detail would be fantastic, as would just overall clearer and better(?) sound. Sometimes in my current headphones my head starts to hurt from (I think) overly piercing highs.

Additional details:
Hello! This is my first foray into higher quality headphones, so I would love to get your guidance. I do not want anything wireless/Bluetooth. I am a very heavy headphone user, and wear them all over the place, so would want them to be fairly sturdy. I listen to headphones for 4+ hours most days — while studying, while cleaning, while writing etc, so I would like something that’s comfortable for longer usage. Along with the music mentioned above, I listen to a lot of ambient nature sounds, so for that and also for classical music I would love a wide soundstage but am not willing to have a ton of leakage, so I would only want that if it can be without too much leakage. As I said up above, my top genres are acoustic/folk/singer songwriter, which I’m assuming would benefit from a strong mid-range, and opera, which is all over the place and has lots of extremes. In general I would love for the vocals to be detailed, more like if you were in the room with them. (Although I’m not entirely clear what is considered high or base vs. midrange, so just guessing based on my limited knowledge.) I understand that I have a lot of specifications that can’t all be met, especially in this price range, but I’m hoping for something that works for more of them.

I have been thinking of getting Seinheiser HD 630 VB. I am not especially interested in bass (I think) but I like the idea of being able to adjust for different genres and also that most of the comments said it has an overall balanced sound that works for different genres. I like that it comes with a sturdy case, because I will be carrying my headphones in a backpack most likely. I also like that people said it has a wide soundstage but doesn’t leak too much. Does this seem like a good idea for me, or would you suggest something else?
Sorry for such a long post. Thanks so much!

Headphones:

If you want more of an all in one solution, both Corsair and Best Buy are selling the Corsair HS60 for $50.

If you want a more budget friendly option (or something that is easier to repair):

 1. Monoprice Premium Headphones. $26 on Amazon.
 2. MuveAcoustics Headphones. $17 on Amazon.

Why these two? They both have detachable cables and the cables are usually the first thing to fail. That means that they will last a long time. Both headphones have cables with inline microphones, but if you want something a bit nicer…

 1. Vmoda BoomPro for $48. Pretty overpriced right now, normal selling price is $30 (I bought two), but I’m guessing that’s what the market is asking right now. These are really good though. Super clear microphone, great mic mute (doesn’t pop when you activate it), and the volume wheel is a nice touch. I own two of these and neither one has given me issues (one for gaming, one for work as I am working from home a lot now).
 2. ienza headphone audio cable with boom mic for $13. Be warned, you get what you pay for. I’ve owned two of these and they’ve all failed in the exact same way. The microphone will record any audio you listen to, so anybody else on a call will hear an echo when they speak, even with the hardware mute switch active. You’ll have to use the software mute to truly mute yourself (top Amazon review is actually mine).

As for webcams:

 1. Victure 1080p webcam. I actually use this one for work. Clear picture, 30 FPS at 1080p, decent focus, but no manual adjustments (at least not in OBS).
 2. Wansview 1080p webcam. I bought this one mainly because of the manual focus. I ended up returning it because the mount doesn’t swivel (I keep the camera to my side, not directly in front). Very nice camera.
 3. Angetube 1080p webcam. Same as the Wansview (1080p, manual focus), but this one has a mount that does swivel.

If the webcam is going to be used facing forward, the Wansview is perfect. All of them have clear indicators that the webcam is active.

Unfortunately, headphones that offer both wired and wireless option aren’t considered basic. Most people look for one or the other, but the option to do both is definitely not a default in most cases.

What you could do is buy a set of wired headphones that feature a detachable cable, which use a 3.5mm jack on the headphone side, functionally similar to what’s used on bluetooth headsets that offer an optional wired connection, and get a 3.5mm bluetooth dongle adapter, and of course the USB bluetooth adapter. This would be a marginally cheaper option that would get you something relatively close to the experience you’re looking for. You could also just get a decent set of wired headphones and then buy something like this.

Either way, if price is something you’re going to be concerned about with this purchase, you should ballpark what you want to spend for the people you’re asking for suggestions from.

As far as removable cable in your price range with a 4Star Rating on Amazon, this was the best I could find. I cannot myself vouch for the quality, as I have no experience with it.

You may however gain advantage from using a Mic+headset instead.. here You can look at a couple of options in the price range of 60$; The Corsair Void is honestly pretty good.

I recently bought a cheap Monoprice headphone. I also got a new sound card that has built in amp. My question is, do I have to plugin my headphones directly to the card to utilize the amp? I’m new to all this so I am not exactly sure of the benefits. Would it be fine for me to plug my headphones into my speakers instead?

Budget: About £30

Source: PC, Spotify

Requirements for Isolation: I listen on volume 20-50% and I don’t want anyone around me to hear what I am listening to

Will you be using these in public?: No, in the office only

Preferred type: Over ear headphones, closed back

Preferred tonal balance: I think maybe about something bass heavier than M40x (they are flat studio headphones). I like studio headphones (flat, that why I’ve choose M40x over M50x because M50x was reported to be bass heavier than M40x) but this month maybe an opportunity of checking out something different. I am open for suggestions.

Music Taste: rock, nu metal (SOAD, RHCP, POD, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit)

Previous headphones/more info: My ATH-M40x broke again (broken hinge out of normal use) and I will be sending them to Audio Technica for repair which will take about month. In mean while I need headphones that will just work fairly good.

Location: UK, I prefer to order on Amazon UK Prime, if not available there then I am fine with 2-3 day shipping.

Bonus points (optional): compatibility with M40x/M50x replacement cables, metal hinges that will not break on my big head.

Requirements for Isolation – Mostly home use, in my room. Occasionally walking to class as well, and on campus.

Preferred Type of Headphone – Full Sized

Past headphones – I used to have a pair of monoprice headphones I liked, and was thinking about getting another pair of them. I still have them, but I went to put them on (after about a year of use/abuse) and the side snapped. You know the adjustable part right above the ear cup? Snapped in two. I could probably tape it back together, but it’ll be wicked ugly, and not work for long. However, I used to have a pair of M30’s by Ausio Technica (before the X series came out) and lost those. Was dumb and left them behind in a classroom. I had gotten those on sale for $30.

Preferred Music – Honestly all over the place. I’m listening to Swans now, and will probably listen to some Lady Gaga later. Seeing Freddie Gibbs tomorrow live.

Looking at –M40X (By the way, I saw some refurbished ones that are more expensive than new? Any idea why?)

If you guys know anything about those, I’d appreciate your thoughts.

I have them as well. I just don’t think they sound anywhere as good as my nicer cans, which are still only worth about thirty-five bucks.

A typo is what that is. You’d think OP would catch that since this is like the dozenth time this has been posted.

I think that for the amount of money you’d spend building them, you’d be able to buy a much better pair. I’ve got a pair of these that I’m happy with

OP, no however that headset you chose is terrible. I owned 3 of them and regret every second I owned them. Umconfy, terrible sound, flimsy, easily breakable, heavy cord, just terrible and is worth 5 dollars at most.

I would get, if you want closed headphones. Monoprice 1083823 headphones

With some HM5 pads from Brainwavz

Also for the microphone I recommend the Modmic 4.0

If you want better headphones and overall better everything for a bit more cost I’d go with the m30x’s

Again this is if you want closed headphones. Open headphones give better audio listening and gaming. However sound will leak out of them. Also visit /r/headphones

Monoprice 8323s are also a great durable headphone for the price. Basically a poor man’s M50s.
