To use Microsoft Sculpt you will need three different types of batteries (two types if you won’t use the mouse). The surface of this keyboard is shiny, it gets dirty very easily. Check the pictures of the used keyboard and you will understand what I mean.

I know only one alternative among membrane keyboards. It’s Microfort Ergonomic Keyboard LXM-00001. According to reviews it’s much better for typing than Microsoft Natural 4000 I owned. Its downsides are (1) new keys near the space bar and (2) VERY fast wearing of the legends which makes the keyboard look not so nice as a new one.

Other ergonomic non-mechanical keyboards, unfortunately wireless:

  1. Microsoft Surface Ergonomic Keyboard: chiclet keys, Bluetooth only, has issues with connection according to many reviews, the palm rest gets dirty very quickly and is very difficult to clean: it’s alcantara.
  2. Logitech Ergo K860: chiclet keys, uses batteries, Bluetooth or receiver. Almost the same issues. Connection to PC with receiver should be okay, I use two Logitech products with one receiver and I can’t complain about that. Maybe it won’t wear as fast as Microsoft, but it will anyway.

In my opinion, membrane keyboards are not worth it any more, but who knows, maybe I’m wrong, it’s up to you. If you cannot buy a new mechanical ergonomic keyboard, try to find a used one. It would be very nice if it would be hot swappable: it means you don’t need to desolder a switch when it breaks (or to find somebody who can do it for you), you can extract it relatively easy with a puller and replace by another one. You can replace the whole set of keycaps and switches if you want fo find the best for you. I think this solution would be more future-proof (but depending on what you choose you might need more or less time to get used to it).

Good luck!

I am a technology Program Manager who works virtually…so I use the computer all day. I had to have shoulder surgery for frozen shoulder before I was diagnosed with Lupus, so I researched a lot about ergonomic options. (I also had carpal tunnel surgery.) I use the following:

Keyboard: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-LXM-00001-Ergonomic-Keyboard/dp/B07Y414QXJ/ref=sr_1_14?crid=2HJNP6AKWKJAY&dchild=1&keywords=ergonomic+keyboard&qid=1623428642&sprefix=ergo%2Caps%2C196&sr=8-14

Mouse: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Wireless-Vertical-Ergonomic-Optical/dp/B00BIFNTMC/ref=sr_1_14?dchild=1&keywords=ergonomic+side+grip+mouse&qid=1623428717&sr=8-14

Arm Support: https://www.amazon.com/Mount-Adjustable-Ergonomic-Computer-Construction/dp/B07RZX96QR/ref=sr_1_58_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=swivel+arm+mount+ergonomic&qid=1623428783&sr=8-58-spons&psc=1&smid=A1Q5TXAPOS7WLS&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExRDFBNjNBTzI1VVIyJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMjc0NTMyMVEyTVRETTZDR00xMyZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwODM2NTE3MUZUVUc4UktUV0w2OCZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2J0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

Also, measure your desk height. I am not short, but I have a long waist and short arms/legs. Like a T-Rex…as my husband says. This meant that the desk I was using and most standard desks are actually too tall for me. I ended up with a straight flat topper and adjustable legs from Ikea, with the legs fairly reduced to get the height to my proper level. I was surprised at the difference. The arm rests really showed me how bad this was. Once I took the pressure off my arms…I found there was less on my wrists.

Best of luck to you. Hope you find something that works for you!

I have it. It sucks. And not in any way you might normally enjoy.

For me, personally, it was excruciating pain in the back of my hands and the muscles on the back of my forearms (as seen here).

I invested in a Microsoft Natural Keyboard. It took some getting used to, but once I did, the difference was night and day. The pain was gone within about 3 days.

If I switch to a normal keyboard, it comes back really quickly. So, I’m that weirdo in the office that uses the oddly shaped keyboard. But there’s a compelling reason for it.

Hello guys!

I am looking to get into ergonomic mechanical keyboards.

Problems: I used a standard form Logitech Mechanical Keyboard for years but developed problems in my right wrist this summer. I went to a doctor and he recommended going for a more ergonomic working environment. I suspected a TFCC injury (the wrist problems started after I climbed in a bad way) but the doctor didnt confirm it. I wen to a physical therapist and he mostly blames rounded shoulders and unnatural hand positioning: Typical IT problems, I guess.

Previous/current: I currently use a microsoft ergonomic keyboard (like this: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-LXM-00001-Ergonomic-Keyboard/dp/B07Y414QXJ) and am very pleased by its general feel. There is an option to tend it upwards such that the wrist rest is higher and you dont need to lift your hands, I use that. The keyboard is very comfortable but it is not mechanical and the numkeys make it way too big.

layout / form in mind: I would like a smaller (atleast TKL) sized mechanical keyboard that has or allows some kind of tenting. Split would be cool but is not necessary. It is important for me, that it is tented as “higher in the middle”. I would like an ortho layout but I do not need staggering, as I would like to still be able to properly play games once in a while with my fingers on the WASD keys. I need a number row, I do not need F1…F12 keys, they can be on a different layer.

use case: programming, gaming, building it as a hobby (kit or parts)

budget/location: budget is below 200€. A kit would be best, I like fiddling around. Location is germany/ EU.

These are both Windows specific but I’ve been using them for Mac for years. I personally set the command/option/control keys to be in the same relative positions as on a Mac keyboard and put labels on the keys. https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-LXM-00001-Ergonomic-Keyboard/dp/B07Y414QXJ

For the wireless version, you can look up the Microsoft Sculpt, which also has an ergonomic mouse.

I definitely recommend an ergo mouse over a traditional flat mouse like the Magic Mouse and definitely over a trackpad. I’m pretty happy with this $20 one. Much less wrist strain. https://www.google.com/shopping/product/15570718299349161416?q=ergonomic.mouse&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS734US734&hl=en-US&biw=414&bih=720&tbs=cat:304,pdtr0:960650%7C960651,vw:l,init_ar:SgVKAwiwAkoKUggIitE6IIvROkoHsgQECNrzIA%3D%3D,ss:44&…
