I appreciate you posting this. I’ve got a Media mechanical keyboard that I really like, and I’d like to keep it as it is (switches, keycaps, lights, functions, numpad) and just physically split it in half to the right of QWERT. I’ve been lurking on this sub but I haven’t seen much about doing something like this. The only thing I’d change is two spacebars for the thumbs. Do you guys have any resources/recommendations so I can learn how to execute this?

So what I did was order a cheap keyboard with brown equivalents, OUTEMU Brown Switches, and see how I like it. If I love it, I will use that for a spare keyboard and order something nicer with real Browns for the office

This is what I ordered: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076F4T4T4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I use the ten-key 60% of the day so I don’t want to be without. I am interested in these Aliaz switches, especially if a heavier switch could soften some of the noise if I put heavier ones on the keys I smack the hardest. Where is the best place to purchase the switches and how difficult are they to install?

What do you think about this board to swap the switches out.

Only concern with this board is the FN key is the windows key I usually use but I’m sure I can AHK to bind it for what I need.

Keychron C1 and C2 are under $50.00 and are made for Macs. They have other options including wireless. Their Bluetooth does work on the log-in screen even with FileVault.

Someone else already mentioned Redragon; another option is this generic mechanical keyboard. Using it as my work keyboard with the browns and it’s solid. To me it seems a little louder than my Keychron K8 brown but nothing crazy.

It depends on which board you have as well. I have a generic keyboard from Amazon with Outemu Brown switches, I find it kind of loud, much louder than a membrane for sure. I’m using it until I can move another keyboard there. I have my own office but I leave the door open and people sit right outside, and I still feel sort of bad about the noise.

I also have a kbd19x with Tealios, which is a Zeal non-silenced linear switch, is quieter. The kbd19x with Sakurios (silenced-linear switches) is extremely quiet.

I would err on the side of the silent switches personally being a parent myself, but I don’t know exactly what your set up is like. If your daughter is in a completely different room with doors closed, then browns are probably fine. They are nothing like Blues.
