I scored this on lightning deal for $24 through (US) Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/MechanicalEagle-Multicolor-Mechanical-Keyboard-Replaceable/dp/B01I1N6N3U?th=1
You will be going complete basic, with no LED’s, Outemu blues (clicky MX clones, generally regarded as Louder than OG Cherry Blues) but tank-like build. You definitely get more than what you pay for in this case IMO.

Just decided to buy a mech keyboard for gaming and went for this cheapo on Amazon (not really looking to spend a lot.)
I really like the feel of the keys, but they are very loud. Can anyone recommend a way to reduce the noise without changing the action of the keystrokes too much?

I think you misunderstood make it your own. Not literally make it yourself with soldering or wiring, but rather make it personalized to you.
You can pick up an outemu switch (red/brown/blue) board for about $30, tai hao PBT keycaps (without antibiosis) for another $35-40, and a custom cable you can make yourself for another $10-15 or premade for about $20. That puts it at about $95-100 all said. Granted it’s not cherry level or even gateron, but it is unique to a larger margin then say your typical board you can pick up online. I’m not touting against Topre (HHKB pro II is my daily driver), but going into the deep end right ($200+ without trying) out the gate isn’t really realistic.

I want a cheap TKL with gateron clears, is there a way to fit gateron clears into this board with out doing a lot of modification to the switchs pins? https://www.amazon.com/MechanicalEagle-Multicolor-Mechanical-Keyboard-Replaceable/dp/B01I1N6N3U?th=1&psc=1
Or if I put the gateron clear stems and springs into the Outemu switches housing would they feel similar to gateron clears?
·
would this be better than something like the Mechanical Eagle Z77?
·
There’s this board on amazon that allows switch swapping and is super cheep. Cherry mx compatible switches always have an option for keycap upgrades too!
·
I’ve been using one of THESE on one of my machines for a while now. Very nice build quality for the price. I actually prefer the Gaote / Outemu switches over my Cherry boards. They have a more satisfying feel and sound to me, but that is all preference.

Just noticed the keyboard I bought went up almost $10 since I bought it. (It’s still worth it imo)
However this keyboard is $45.99 and during my research before buying my own I believe I read that they are made by the exact same manufacturing company know as Eastern Times Tech. Tons of Chinese resellers buy up their boards and rebrand them to resell. They should be the same.

Note, it’s also available without backlighting on Amazon for $35.

How ’bout this one? https://www.amazon.de/MechanicalEagle-Mechanische-Tastatur-87-Tasten-Mechanical-US-Layout-No-Backlit-Schwarz/dp/B01I1N6N3U Doesn’t look half bad. The Aukey looks nice but has German layout…

It’s hard to find a good quality board at that price. There’s a stickied guide at the top of this subreddit with recommendations at different price points.
I used this keyboard for about a year and like it a lot for how cheap it is. It comes with clicky blue switches though. BUT you can replace the switches in this easily.

You could get gateron brown tactile switches from eBay for about $10 (shipped from China) and put them in yourself.

You don’t need 16GB RAM[1][2] for games. Most people will never use 2TB. You’ll find a 1070 for $320 on r/buildapcsales with a little patience. Don’t bother with a NEX when G2 and G3 units are about $5 more. You can run Windows 10 without a license indefinitely. Get a $60 case like the P400, MasterBox 5 Black, Z1 Neo, InWin 301, or Core V21. Drop the motherboard to a $120 MSI SLI Plus or Gigabyte Gaming 3, you won’t be losing any features.
I have a Razer Tournament, first gen with orange switches, and I have a $30 off-brand with Outemu blue switches: Off-brand[1][2] is the better choice. My friend has the same story but with a Corsair K70. There’s no reason to pay over $100 for a mechanical keyboard anymore. If $30 doesn’t suit you then have a look at more expensive off-brand offerings like the Anne Pro, a 60% with Bluetooth and Gaterons for $70, or the RK61 with Kailhs for $60. Laser mice have inherent acceleration, if you’re playing FPS games competitively then get something with a PWM3360 or 66, common sale price is $35; it’s the same sensor in Logitech flagships. If you’re playing MOBAs or RPGs get a Redragon Perdition.

Anything with branded Outemu switches and n-key rollover is a safe choice. Chinese brands have a lot to offer that you can’t find from mainstream brands: For example this MechanicalEagle has socketed switches and the RK61 supports both USB and Bluetooth connections. There’s a lot to pick from. I have experience with an Aukey, Tomoko and Jar-Owl, only the latter had problems and it could have been avoided by reading reviews. Interestingly enough Jar-Owl had sent me that keyboard free for review, as there were no others at the time.
That’s the one. The Nixeus Revel I mentioned just showed up on r/buildapcsales too.

I tried to make it as minimalist as possible haha, but there’s only so much you can do in a dorm room

Bought it for 49,99. Reviews look overwhelmingly good, so 10$ more is not a problem.
Also found this one with very good reviews for $45. Switches are not swapable, but it is recommended by r/MechanicalKeyboards .

You can get them under the same name too on .co.uk. https://www.amazon.co.uk/MechanicalEagle-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboard-Switches/dp/B01I1N6N3U/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1479818683&sr=8-2&keywords=MechanicalEagle+Z-77

Here’s black with no backlighting and with white backlighting. If you wanna buy the white/silver one I have, I’ll give you the black keycaps I had in those pictures.

It usually would be “www. amazon.com/dp/B01I1N6N3U/>Referral_id</ref=cm_sw_su_dp” or “www. amazon.com/dp/B01I1N6N3U/ref=cm_sw_su_dp?tag=Referral_id” or such.
