If you’re taking about the HHKB Lite then those are gonna be membrane keyboards too. Most keyboard are over 80$ but there is the Qisan ones in Amazon for 40$ with OUTEMU switches. Don’t really know how they feel like and the only switches available are blue and blacks in silver or gold plates. Here’s a silver with blue switches!
If you want there are also electronics surplus stores you can check. Hope your findings go well!

Hey guys,
I currently have this (LINK) Magicforce 68 keyboard with Outemu blue switches.
I wanted to put kailh box jades on this keyboard (cause why not). So would it be possible/sufficient to just desolder all the outemu switches and solder on the kailh box switches on the same pcb?
Thanks

Value mouse wise, a gpro wired + paracord + hyperglides is still cheap, and the g305 is also fantastic bang-for-your-buck. The new lightspeed wireless mice (g305, GPW) are indistinguishable from wired, latency wise. I also have the glorious odin on pre-order, and everything i’ve read from people that have gotten to test it indicates that it’ll be a top-of-the-line mouse.
Value keyboard wise: the magicforce 60% is like a ducky without any of the bells or whistles for $40

Magicforce 68 with Outemu blue switches on Amazon. Not the highest quality keyboard by any means, but my friend swears by her brown switch version. It’s pretty much the nicest small form factor keyboard you can get for that price.
For more money you can start looking at choices like the Vortex Race 3 or Cypher, Clueboard and Leopold keyboards, and the Preonic for a novel grid-based or “ortholinear” design. Smaller keyboards include the Vortex Core, the OLKB Planck, and the Minivan from TheVanKeyboards.
If you don’t mind hand-assembling keyboards the Zen 2.0 from RGBKB is coming out next year, and if you don’t mind waiting longer there will always be keyboards available through limited-production runs (“group buys”) on Massdrop, Geekhack, and r/mechmarket.

I’ve been using my Magicforce Qisan 68-key 60% for a little over a year now as a cheap way to get into mechanical keyboards and ended up liking it a lot, except for one realization: I miss my dedicated Esc and F-keys!
So I’m looking at TKL keyboards, but I’m not sure what I want beyond that. Assuming two keyboards are both using the same switches, the only real difference from a utility aspect is board weight and rigidity? Should I get RGB LEDs? Are RGB keyboards significantly more expensive than non LED keyboards, or are they so similar in price I might as well get RGB LEDs?
My wife has a Corsair K70 RGB with Cherry MX Browns, and overall I liked the typing experience on it, except for the textured space bar. I felt like it was going to rub my thumb raw. So I know I definitely don’t want some sort of textured keys, just regular smooth keys for me. I also don’t think I want to be too adventurous and get something like an ortholinear keyboard.
What would you all recommend?
·
No. All sorts of mech parts and boards come on here. If your interested in a TKL with browns, I’d recommend a MagicForce 68.

Outemu browns are pretty nice. I’ve owned this board for over a year and have been satisfied.

Here’s the MF68 in stock on Amazon with Outemu blues. I’ve tried a bunch of cheap mechanical keyboards at work and at home, and for my money the MF68 is by far my favorite. It’s a solid board, great switches, great layout with no weird size caps (meaning any standard cap set will fit it), and the stock caps are nice thick ABS. The only thing I don’t like about it is the cap font. Access to the Fn key combos is intuitive. Hands down the best $40 board out there today.
Edit: I missed where you said you wanted backlighting, my bad. Getting a solid board with backlighting pushes you over $40, at least by my idea of solid. I’d get one without backlighting and upgrade if you miss it?
·
Magicforce 68 is another good starter. There’s a backlit version available too, but it’s a bit more expensive.
·
i have this one in my closet blue switches but its not a full keeb its a 60% so depends of that works for u blue were to loud for my gf so i dont use it but its a great keeb
·
Here. You’ll love this. I promise! It’s the keyboard I have, but with clicky switches!
·
I’m looking at buying the Magicforce 68 off Amazon for $40.. This is my third board but I’ve never bought keycaps for a board. I currently have a CM Storm Quickfire TK and I understand that it has non-standard keycaps so I never bothered. Does the Magicforce 68 have standard keycaps? For a full replacement of keycaps on the board, how much would it cost (approximately)?
·
I was clicking around there, saw this, and was like woooah, 40 dollar mech!
·
Amazon has dozens of mechanical keyboards for $30-50. You really can’t go wrong, but here’s some that stand out:
- Qisan Magicforce 68.: Excellent build quality, especially for $38. Cherry switches aren’t worth the $20 premium IMO.
- Tomoko tenkeyless: Decent build quality and blue switches; should be good for typing. At $26 it’s not much more expensive than a switch tester.
- Anne Pro: RGB and Bluetooth for only $70.
Except for Cooler Master, name-brand gaming boards (e.g. Logitech, Corsair, Steelseries) are only as good or even worse than budget options. Unless you’re stuck in one brand’s RGB lighting ecosystem, avoid them at all costs.

For ‘most’ people, especially those new to the hobby, the go-to gaming switch seems to be mx blues. It really is extremely subjective though. Lots of people prefer quieter tactile switches or linears. Actuation weight varies a lot too. I personally prefer a heavier switch, so the first board I bought (which I’m still using) has mx greens (similar to mx blues, but heavier springs), and for my next board which I plan to custom build, I’m going even heavier and more clicky. I’ll be spending a good bit more than $100USD on it though. Another big factor is size. Would you prefer a smaller board? How attached are you to your numpad? What about your FN row? Arrow keys? All things you have to decide before buying. If you just want something cheap, but decent, with mechanical switches to try, here is a very low cost "60%" (I’d call it more like 65% because of the arrow keys, but idk) sold on amazon, with good reviews.. This one has blue (tactile clicky) switches, but it comes in brown (tactile) and black (linear) varients as well. I really would recommend putting a bit more time into researching the different types of switches/ board sizes and maybe even invest in a switch tester from NovelKeys or make a post on /r/mechmarket asking if anyone has one with good, entry level switches they will sell you for cheap.

If you can stretch an extra £5 you could go for the magicforce68 from amazon, seen it pretty highly praised for a budget board

It’s the MagicForce Blue Switch 68-Keys Mini but I wouldn’t recommend it. It’s cheap and the perfect form factor for my taste but it’s extremely noisy due to the stabilizers and I believe aluminium frame. I prefer my New Poker 2 over the MagicForce by far. I bought it to test out the form factor before I drop $200 on the NightFox.
I love mini keyboards but I need the arrow keys for text editors when working. I believe the NightFox to be the perfect keyboard for this. The build quality is insanely over engineered and top shelf. I may go ahead and replace it now because I just noticed the NightFox is on sale for $150. Woop Woop!

Or you can get a new K552 with not amazing but still clicky switches for $28 +$$$ for backlighting, though.
Not going to find much else decent in that budget, especially around here.
·
Right now, I’m using a Logitech K120 on a mac mini. I don’t have too much money to blow, but I really want a legit mechanical keyboard. Nothing fancy: I don’t care for backlit lights or programmable keys and stuff. So far, I’ve found this Magicforce 68 which is cheap and even recommended on the wiki here.
My only concern is that the switches are not legit Cherry MX ones, and I don’t know if I can get custom keycaps for it. If anyone has or used the $40 magicforce 68, please tell me what you think of it.

Here’s some options;
68%: Magicforce 68 w/Outemu blues, ~$40US / Magicforce 68 w/MX blues & blue LEDs, ~$70US
TKL: Nixeus Moda V2 w/ Kailh blues, ~$54US / Tt Poseidon ZX w/ Kailh blues & blue LEDs, ~$62US / CM Quickfire Rapid w/MX blues, ~$70US
Fullsize: Azio MGK1 w/ Kailh blues & white LEDs, ~$60US
Those are a few ~around that pricepoint, all solid boards.
·
US Links:
Browns will be the lightest and blacks the heaviest.
·
Is the only difference between the two versions the switch type? Trying to figure out why one is $40 and the other is $60 on amazon.
·
The Magicforce 68 key is a great TKL with a selection of brown, blue and black ~~Outemu~~ Kailh switches. There’s also a backlit version but I have no idea what colour it is.
Best of all, the Magicforce is cheap. Really cheap.
edit: they’re not outemu

I barely spent $40 and got a MagicForce 68 with blue switches and it’s been great so far.
