Similar to other people here, just getting into custom keyboards! I’ve been using the low-profile Havit KB395L for over a year now and absolutely love the typing experience!
However, after spending some $$$ upgrading my office/gaming desk, and hours of cable management, I was hoping to find a similar keyboard that supports a) Bluetooth (ideally 5.0) and b) custom keycaps.
Based on my research, the Keychron K1 v4 seems like a great option, but I’m not sure how the Gateron Reds compare to the Kailh Blues on the Havit. Based on the Havit documentation, Kailh Blues are even more low profile and require less operating force … is that correct?
Also, with Version 5 (seemingly) releasing soon, does waiting for the MX-styled switches make more sense? I’ve heard -maybe incorrectly- that would be better for customization …?
Thanks for the help!

Havit has low profile keyboards TKL or full size. check them on Amazon. See if they are available at your region.

Here’s one on amazon similar to it, low profile. Couldnt tell you anything about it, I saw a five minute review on it last night and what I got out of it was that the keyboard is slim.

Here is the amazon link for it. It’s a low profile, mechanical, RGB keyboard. I personally don’t like the larger key caps and needed something back lit. It was around $50 on sale. The clicks sound a little plastic, but it’s built really well and doesn’t bother me at all. You can look up reviews on YouTube to see how it sounds as well!

I currently use a low-profile clicky keyboard, and it is definitely quieter than a full size blue switch keyboard. It still retains that satisfying click, but there is less thunk from the bottoming out of the keys. Sounds very ‘airy’. The feel of typing on them is somewhere between a laptop keyboard and a full size blue keyboard. Very fast and light, but with that solid mechanical feedback. Absolutely recommend giving one a try.

Here’s a link to the keyboard I’m buying.

Weird looking through this again I actually don’t know how I came up with 7mm keycaps. But as you can see the keycaps are alot slimmer than normal ones.

Might be worth checking out a keyboard with low profile mechanical switches — I believe Havit and some others do some nice ones.

I’ve got AKG headphones and a Blue Snowball mic for sound stuff.
I’d die without my Roccat Nyth MMO mouse <3
And I have this low profile mech keyboard that I’m in love with too.

Its about both form and function. Functionally, to touch type, I need a smaller surface, with a defined gap between each key’s top surface.
I can’t touch type properly if there isn’t a more defined middle of the keycap. A larger surface allows your fingers to press the keycaps off-centre, which leads you to lose your orientation, and miss keys entirely.
I got a manufacturing sample of these switches, and they gave me these keycaps too. I don’t have enough to cover a whole board, but I have enough to realize that I won’t be able to type with them properly.
These keycaps look much better, but they are painted ABS, so I wouldn’t touch them.
I have a 40% board that I designed and assembled as a steel-plate sandwich. Its waiting for switches. I want to use these switches, but not until there is a decent keycap option.

Anybody tried one of these?

Not going to lie you’re better off getting another Redragon K502. But if you’re willing to change keyboards for the disadvantage you mentioned:
Logitech G815 Lightsync Keyboard – Around $150
Keychron K1- Around $200
HAVIT HV-KB395L RGB Keyboard – $80 on Amazon through this link: https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Extra-Thin-Switches-HV-KB395L/dp/B074QM6F7X/
If these aren’t what you are looking for, I can try to find something else

This one is also quite good, and low profile: https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Extra-Thin-Switches-HV-KB395L/dp/B074QM6F7X

Depends on how much your want to spend spend and what you’re personal preferences are. I definitely recommend something mechanical, but you’ll have to figure out if you like red linear, brown quiet tactile, or blue clicky switches (Cherry is kind of the baseline) or one of the hundred or so variations from different companies.
I currently have this cheapish Havit low profile blue keyboard and I love it
https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Extra-Thin-Switches-HV-KB395L/dp/B074QM6F7X/ref=sr_1_4?d
But I plan to upgrade to this Logitech at some point
Logitech makes good keyboards, I just know that one you’re using is kind of a mushy mess.
Mind you I’m where I’m at after trying an HP chiplet membrane, Razer membrane gaming, Redragon red switch mechanical, swapping the Redragon switches, and finally getting the Havit. It’s a very deep rabbit hole as illustrated by r/CustomKeyboards so be careful how far you fall, or you’ll end up broke, surrounded by keyboards, with a mediocre PC still typing 10 wpm.
·
Looking at the pictures that looks like a thin low profile keyboard. In your Amazon search criteria use “kailh low profile mechanical keyboard” https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Extra-Thin-Switches-HV-KB395L/dp/B074QM6F7X/ Logitech makes one also https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P4QJ45Z/

If you don’t need wireless —
Blue (clicky) switches:

Brown (tactile) switches:
·
Hexgears X-1 is probably the highest quality option, though you’ll have to wait a month or two for them to be in stock
If you want something cheaper, I’d recommend one of the HAVIT boards from Amazon. 100% or TKL
·
Littlekeyboards, boardsource.xyz both have choc builds.
There are prebuilts, though: https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Extra-Thin-Switches-HV-KB395L/dp/B074QM6F7X/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=kailh+choc&qid=1602287343&sr=8-1

I’m thinking about getting this! https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Extra-Thin-Switches-HV-KB395L/dp/B074QM6F7X
Has great reviews all around, although I wish they made browns or red versions.

I should have marked NSFW lol.
The monitor is the 49WL95C-W. The keyboard I’m currently using is a Havit HV-KB395L. The mouse is a Logitech MX Master 2S. And the coffee cup is just a cheap cup from Amazon that I use for tea. Links below.

I’m a programmer. This is my most favorite keyboard I’ve ever bought. It’s mechanical, but the “clickity” is perfect, and low travel (it’s 69.99… and 59.99 for the one without the number pad). They list a few options, but the one’s that I find great have “Kailh Latest Low Profile Blue Switches”. Also the back lighting is really nice.

I don’t know what language he’s working with, but this book is excellent too. Many of the examples are centered around java/C#, but most concepts apply across many languages. It motivated me to explore further after reading, and to really polish up on my skill set.

I’ve also tossed around the idea of getting one of these as well
