I’d still suggest looking the ones above, but I’ll add the LG Xboom RK7 which is my happy medium between portability and sound quality and the Marshall woburn which is amazing for its size. I’ll also throw in the minirig 3 – 2.1 combo which is awesome, but very difficult to buy in the US.

You have made my decision for me! I like to joke that I’m building a bookshelf collection because I have some used bookstores that are absolutely dirt-cheap for amazing quality, so my books are multiplying. All the bookshelves are wooden, so I needed something to go with that theme. For a slick modern piece, the RT81 has such a warm traditional feel

EDIT: Since the RT81 has the phono preamp, I’ve read that you don’t quite need a receiver. That’s awesome for me because the less space used, the better. One of the speaker sets I was surprised to find on recommendations was the Marshall Stanmore. They’re made to look like amps, but they sound way better than I thought. I actually used to have one that I loved to death.

Do you have any experience with those speakers? Woburn is a bit more of a serious speaker than the Stanmore (link: https://www.amazon.com/Marshall-Stanmore-M-ACCS-00166-Speaker-Black/dp/B00OGQMXSQ/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1463739602&sr=8-2&keywords=marshall%2Bspeakers&linkCode=ll1&tag=vmpeasiestsetup-20&linkId=5aa8f49149d00366a54972e2441ccf8f&th=1), so I’ve been thinking about just going with the Woburn off the bat.
