I use this keyboard with my mibox and really like it. It’s wireless, chargeable (which I hardly ever really have to do), has a touchpad mouse attached, and the keys light up (and shut back off after a brief moment of inactivity). It also has a power switch so you can lob it around on the sofa or whatever and not worry about unwanted button presses. One extra touch I like is that there is a small button on the top left side along the top edge (around the rim). It’s also a left-click mouse button so you can have it held down and still move the mouse cursor around pretty freely.

Nah I’m using this keyboard http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Illuminated-Living-Room-Internet-Connected-920-006081/dp/B00J2LIC44
since I just had it around and the wireless functionality made convenient for VR. I just wound up ordering another cheap keyboard with a num pad and separate mouse since I’m sure this isn’t the only time it will be useful to have

And why is Logitech the only company to make a light up version of this? It’s like $118 too. Pretty convenient for a HTPC in low lighting, but I don’t want to drop $100 on it.

I bought the slightly higher end model K830, with backlighting in 2015, it’s been solid.

Looks like they don’t make that exact model anymore, https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00J2LIC44

The Costco special! It’s running Kodi from my HTPC and controlled by a K830. Just needed a big ass 1080p monitor really. Never used any of the extra features it has besides the Hulu and Netflix apps.

Have you looked at the Logitech offering? It’s a little more money, but probably more quality to go along with it (and has illuminated keys):

Logitech K830

More of a media center type keyboard than gaming, however.

Other wireless Logitech keyboards are great too like this one

I never understood smart tvs in the first place. They are just a shitty locked down computer with a terrible ui. I just plugged a real computer into my normal tv, and got this wireless livingroom keyboard/mouse, and a wireless xbox 360 receiver for a game pad. It is much, much better.

With that setup plus a real mouse I can play any pc game I want, any console I want up to and including playstation 2 plus arcade games, I can watch Netflix from Canada, US, UK, or any other country, and anything else a real PC can do for that matter. I really don’t see the appeal of a smart tv, I think they are actually pretty dumb.

That was before I heard about privacy policies like this, and that Samsung and Panasonic TVs have been serving advertisements, and LG is scanning your USB drives for keywords. Now I REALLY don’t want one.

For my couch browsing I use this, perfect for what you are describing.
