Oh absolutely! This thing has been amazing – https://www.amazon.com/LEVOIT-LV-H132-Purifier-Allergies-Eliminator/dp/B071D58ZY5 – I bought it last year when dealing with black mold here (since been resolved, last fall. Been looking for new place ever since!). Got it on sale with amazon card for about $87, so not terrible. I’d run it 24/7, but our electric bill is insane (no insulation, broken hvac, roommates who run space heaters ever night all night mean 2-3 months of utility bills = my monthly rent.)
Maybe I’m going crazy but I swear I smell it in my pillows and sheets and it’s stressing me out. Is that even possible?
Yeah, I know my life epitomizes first world problems, but with already severe anxiety and insomnia, being unable to sleep bc of I’m fighting a panic attack thinking the smell has permeated my recently washed sheets, blankets and pillows….my completely fresh, clean bed is the only place in my life right now I’m totally able to unwind and relax; this has turned it into a major source of stress.

I bought this one! I highly recommend it, in fact, I might get a 2nd one.
I have a cheaper one from Target but it’s honestly not worth mentioning because it feels like it does absolutely nothing lol

Levoit Air Purifier with True HEPA Filter Active Carbon Filtration, Captures Allergies, Bacteria, Dust, Mold, Pollen for Home Air Cleaning, Reduces Odors of Smokers, Pet, Chemicals, 3 Speeds Plus Night Light and 100% Ozone Free, LV-H132 https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B071D58ZY5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_XnpRBb1TMWCPK

Levoit air filter. Since it’s an actual fan, you don’t get the digital loops which drive me crazy. Very soothing fan noise without the large movement of air. Has 3 settings for fan speed and 3 settings for an optional night light. Plus it cleans the air. I buy them used off Amazon.

Awesome Full Fuckin Canopy Flush my friend! Thanks for the props, I’ll only take a little bit of credit. Spores to LC without a Laminar flow hood; it’s amazing what we can accomplish when we just keep up’in our game. And all in a Martha Tek, this beautiful display was born; nature thrives at the hand of a human.
I recommend you spend a little more to get the best outcome on your influx fan. This Levoit HEPA-3 grade room filter that sucks air from the bottom. You attach dryer vent tube to the top and bring it through one of the venting holes going into the tent. You not gonna wanna run this on a timer. I let it run continuously on the LOW setting. Use some 2.5″ sealing tape and attach the tube to the top of the filter. This way you take all airborne contaminates out and are only pumping pure air. The low setting is perfect. The only problem with this set up is that you can not turn the power on and off, if a timer shuts it off you manually have to pushnthe button again to get it to power on again. It works for me cause my power never goes off. True HEPA Filter

Thanks! I was wondering about air purifiers. I tend to leave mine on over night.
I recently purchased this one
·
Like ccoakley, I bought 2 of https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071D58ZY5/
during the Thomas fire.
And recently I bought one of this newer model
The second one I listed is a superior product. Levoit is definitely working on constantly improving their game. The Core 300 is quieter (virtually silent on night mode), has a better design for the replaceable filter media, and the replaceable filters are available in a variety of types to suit your needs. I just replaced the filter media, choosing their type that specializes in smoke, among other toxins. When the outdoor air tasted and smelled like smoke in SB yesterday, my Levoits kept the inside of my house fresh and clear.

As far as music, it takes a bit of trying to see what works best for you. It could also be someone talking, like an audible book, speech, ASMR, etc. With the air cleaner, I have used one for years. It has been very helpful. I just purchased another one last week & it is the best one I have bought so far. Here’s the info if you are interested. I hope that whatever you try will provide you with some restful sleep. https://www.amazon.com/LEVOIT-LV-H132-Purifier-Allergies-Eliminator/dp/B071D58ZY5/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?crid=1QE60L9A7UQIJ&dchild=1&keywords=levoit+hepa+air+purifier&qid=1631479940&sprefix=levoit+hepa+&sr=8-6

I lived in an area for a while that was incredibly dusty. When the sun came through the window you could see heavy dust particles everywhere. My wife suggested one but I didn’t think an air purifier would do much of anything to be honest but was willing to try.
It was literally night and day, when the sun came through it was totally clear. The one I got works great, for a single room anyway. The place I was living in was literally 350 sq ft lol but it worked great.
This is the one I got:

I’ve been using this model vs CA wildfire smoke since 2018. It pulls in a lot of air, is pretty quiet (but makes noises babies like anyway), and it filters really well!
·
Yes, my exhaust leads to the outside air. Here is the Amazon link to the HEPA True Filter I use. The inline exhaust fan and vent tubing was purchased at Home depot and is normal stock. I suppose you can find on their website or instore.

Not sure what your financial situation is, but this air purifier helped me immensely. I had childhood asthma and still get some irritation depending on season and air quality. Also love my cats, but hate the smell of a litter box. This purifier helps all of the above. Won’t sort the moving issue, but might save your lungs in the meantime.
·
Some cats take longer to acclimate than others. I think that if you continue to work with her and be patient she’ll figure it out. If you do a heated bed please make sure that it’s suitable for cats, not too hot, and that she can get away from the heat it case she gets uncomfortable.
See if someone you know has a HEPA filter Air Purifier you can try in your bedroom and see if that makes a difference. If so maybe letting her in the bedroom but not in your bed would work. Here’s one from Amazon, I don’t know anything about it but something similar may work. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071D58ZY5/ref=s9_acsd_simh_hd_bw_b28iu_c2_x_1_i?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-2&pf_rd_r=4260A1KN0PTE6SF8KBZP&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=195a344b-acc6-4cb5-92fe-1b70447d4409&pf_rd_i=510192

It might not help you find the exact cause but i think a small room air purifer like this is a win win. Less dusting to do, sheets need changing less regularly, noise helps me sleep, i snore less and less stuffed up in the mornings.

Based on the current understanding of how SARS-CoV-2 spreads, the dorms are probably slightly safer than classrooms if all the rules are strictly followed.
The key is airflow and ventilation. Most classrooms have absolutely terrible ventilation so what’s going to happen is one sick person breathing or talking aerosolizes the virus and that is picked up in a cross draft and spread throughout the classroom. Since the air exchange rate is miserably low, there’s a decent chance of a single sick person infecting many others in just a single hour long class. If you’re curious about how they know this, take a look at the study of the restaurant where a sick guy was sitting next to the AC and everyone in the path of the AC got infected.
In the dorms however, this kind transmission can be minimized more. People will be in their own rooms, each with windows which if I was living in the dorms, I would keep open 24/7. This increases the air exchange rate drastically so any aerosolized virus is diluted by clean fresh air. However this doesn’t help face to face droplet transmission or fomite transmission so masks should always be worn outside of your room and you should sanitize your hands frequently.
Another issue with dorms is the shared bathrooms since we know that feces carries the virus and the action of flushing the toilet can aerosolize it and spray it all over the bathroom. The school really should have HEPA filters running in the dorm bathrooms to be safest and I wouldn’t dare use those bathrooms without a mask on unless you’re showering. They should probably also try to limit it to a single person using the bathroom at a time.
Overall, the dorms do present more opportunities for the virus to spread through different transmission routes, but if the mitigation strategies are followed to a T then I would say that classrooms are more dangerous. But realistically we know that nobody will follow any of these recommendations and the school shouldn’t even be open in the first place. Oh well.
Also, anyone worried about living in the dorms should get a HEPA filter for their room like this one it’s a little pricy yeah, but it could be the difference between getting COVID and staying healthy.

Refurbished Dyson Pure Hot + Cool. Fan, heater and air purifier. Some are wifi enabled and detect gasses like PM0.3, PM2.5, PM5 and PM10. Refurbished ones are available through Dyson on ebay periodically.
Second, Honeywell purifier. You can get a larger amount of square footage for a reasonable price. The filters are a hassle.
Budget choice, Levoit LV-H132. I think it only does rooms up to 100sq feet. You can get two for ~160. The filters are cheap and easy to replace. I don’t feel it performs as well as the Honeywell purifiers.

here’s a couple:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B071D58ZY5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_dlC_imDeGbBQCBNP5
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07CSV6R8L/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_BIDeGbW9Z8SDW
the most important thing is that they should have a HEPA and carbon/charcoal filter
·
I got this HEPA filter – might help if there are airborne mold spores https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071D58ZY5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I also spray Ozium into the air a few minutes before doing any inoculation.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B071D58ZY5/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_8R07AMNCW14ZFETN8J7Y this one. It’s one of the cheaper ones too. Just make sure you change the filter we do it every 6 months

During the Thomas fire, I bought 3 of https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071D58ZY5/
More recently, I bought one of:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083TMWFSZ/
The latter certainly moves more air. My youngest discovered that you can place a balloon on top of it and recreate the Bernoulli principle exhibit from the children’s museum.
I should mention that my sister actually recommended it to me. She even advocated treating them as disposable, and buying a few extra just to throw them away when the Thomas fire smoke went away. The bearings on the first batch have started to wear, and are making more noise than when they were new. But they still work (just remember to replace the filters).

This Levoit worked for me:

The voltage converter looks like this.
I’m using it for Levoit air purifier.
I think the guide book says it requires 28W, I need to double confirm when I get back.

If you get one know that the name brand filters are expensive. Amazon has plenty of alternative brand for both units that are superior for a fraction of the cost.
While I don’t own one myself Levoit has a series True HEPA air purifiers. This one and the Core 300 model both made it into the top 20 air purifiers for 2020…
Here is the article…
Top 10 HEPA Air Purifiers for 2020 (not an ad)

Hi everyone I’ll keep track here for those interested:

- Entry (<$100)
- LEVOIT LV-H132: Seems like a good budget model, with HEPA and Activated carbon. Filters seem relatively well priced. Only drawback is some people complain about the level of noise on the high setting.
- Middle ($100-$300)
- Coway AP-1512HH Mighty Air Purifier, White: Has an ionizer which produces ozone. It can be turned on and off. However, some reviews said they could still smell the ozone.
- Honeywell True HEPA Allergen Remover : u/stareatthesun442 recommends! Plus there’s a $50 coupon right now on Amazon.
- High End ($300-$500)
- Dream ($500+)
