I’m no audiophile, I’m all about bang for buck, you could look at something like klipsch R-51’s and a sub and save some money. Are you looking for a 2.1 setup or surround?

On the other hand, from a casual observer’s perspective, doesn’t seem like speaker tech has massively jumped year over year. Mostly it lies in featureset, so instead of that set it might be worth it to invest in solid speakers and a modern amp instead with the features and outputs you need.

I was looking to replace a cheap LG soundbar recently and I came to the conclusion that unless you want to spend a ton of money on a high end setup, soundbars are just not that great. I ended up with a pair of powered bookshelf speakers and subwoofer. It’s been very good for movies and excellent for music. It takes a bit more effort to dial it in (speaker placement and adjusting the subwoofer settings) but it’s just hard for a soundbar to match the sound of larger speakers. There are a few other good brands out there like SVS, Edifier and Audioengine that make good powered speakers too.

This sub might be a great match for the pair of Klipsch R-51PM speakers I just bought for my desk.

Well the cheapest Denon one is $230, so thats almost half of your current budget.

Whereas the price difference for Powered Speakers vs their unpowered counterpart is $100, leaving more left for your subwoofer.

I’m looking for recommendations for bookshelf sized, powered speakers with both digital/optical/or HDMI and RCA inputs. I found these but was curious if there are other options before I commit: https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-R-51PM-Powered-Bluetooth-Speaker/dp/B07FKCP7PZ

For a small room a better value are Jamo S 801 PM ~~$299~~ $149 on sale with Bluetooth, analog input for a turntable with built in or external phono stage preamp, USB input for a computer, digital optical input for a TV, and a subwoofer output to connect a powered subwoofer.

Klipsch R-15PM at $249 are meh. The new improved version are Klipsch R-51PM however they cost $339 and it’s silly to spend that much on digitally controlled amp powered speakers for analog vinyl when you can get a better analog stereo receiver and better passive speakers for less.

At this point I’m thinking R51PM (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FKCP7PZ/) and add a sub later. It’s not modular, but it does solve the 120/220v issue I’m having.

Ok, do you want this to be a full surround sound setup at some point or can you do a 2 channel setup? If surround sound that will be a lot tougher for new pieces. You could look for a used receiver (and easily find one for $50-100) on ebay, FB market, or even Craigslist.

If you can live with a 2 channel and want separates thats doable for $400.

If you just want powered speakers that easiest for sure. For powered I would go with a pair of these and call it a day.

You’re welcome,

If you like Klipsch, they also make powered speakers with a built in phono stage preamp: 5″ Klipsch R-51PM $349.

More Klipsch subwoofers:

There is also a wireless version, 10″ Klipsch Reference R-10SWi ~~$449~~ $249.

Or larger 12″ may be large and overkill for your room though you can always turn down the volume as needed and it would make a good subwoofer for later use in a living room.

You can get a lot for 500€. If it were me, I’d get some Klipsch active speakers for the computer or main part of the house and a small portable bluetooth speaker for other parts of the house or travel. The latter is not something you’re going to find recommendations for on this sub, period. I listen to my iPhone audio while listening to news in the morning while showering or whatever, but I have used a friend’s JBL Charge while in an outdoor pool setting and in that sense, it has its place.

Klipsch R-51PM

If you decide later on you want to subwoofer, Emotiva makes a very good 8″ passive radiator subwoofer, so no port hole
