I use these plus a receiver I got from Goodwill with my Heyday turntable. They’re really nice.

Are you using an actual CD player, or are you using a PC? In my experience, motherboard audio is good enough these days that an external DAC won’t really provide much of a quality increase for you unless you are specifically having some sort of issue with your onboard audio. If you only have $150 to budget to the whole system right now, I would highly recommend getting some speakers.

I know this is technically a little outside your price range, but if you can scrounge up an extra $7, these are excellent speakers for the money. If you can step up to $180, get the R15Ms instead.

These will work well for you, though.

Thanks for the response! I thought I would be best picking a receiver first then selecting speakers. Say for example I wanted to pack out the channels with Klipsh R-41m’s along with a pair of subs. 5 speakers, 2 subs (not sure on the height channels). The bookshelves are lower rated than the advertised spec, would this be an advantage or a disadvantage?

Really appreciate the help, sorry for the basic questions

May I recommend a setup under 200? For nice bookshelf’s I nominate Klipsch R-41M Powerful Detailed Bookshelf Home Speaker Set of 2 Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FKH3VPV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_66t1Fb684KND4 , and for a power source I recommend you look around, Facebook marketplace for a receiver, or if you do not have the space, amazon has tons and tons of class t/d amps.

Hey guys, pretty new to audio here. Got some pretty n00b questions so please bare with me if you can! I’d like to buy these speakers (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FKH3VPV/ref=crt_ewc_title_huc_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AGIEEC79IXDZ), along with the center speaker and subwoofer. I want to use them with my turntable.

My question is, what else do I need at the bare minimum to power all this? An amplifier? If so, what’s a good recommendation to start with?

Thanks for all the help in advance!

This will be my suggestion if you’re looking for something new:

Speakers: www.amazon.com/dp/B07FKH3VPV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_teeoFbYZ1RWYG

Receiver: www.amazon.com/dp/B01EMQI2CU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_PfeoFb2SSRCT3

And connect your subwoofer via a standard RCA cable to the line out output of the receiver.

If you go for an used system, you might find better equipment.

I am looking at getting a beginner set-up and upgrading from my terrible set up that is most likely damaging my vinyl.

I am not an audiophile but appreciate analog. But would be happy with a digital set up and upgrade in a few years when I have the money.

I am thinking of getting a AT-LP120XUSB with built in phono. But am having trouble deciding what speakers to get.

I have found these on amazon for a good price Klipsch R-41M are these good Active/Powered speakers?

What other active/powered speakers would you recommend for a beginner? I am willing to pay more for quality. There is just so much out there it is hard to filter it all.

What is your room size? Has to be towers?

If you go with the Reference series, you don’t need 5.25″ side surrounds. 4″ Klipsch R-41M $115.

Or the speakers I listed for half the price of the R51.

You want smaller 4″ mid bass driver speakers for a small room?

The 4″ Klipsch R-14PM are an older model. The newer 4″ Klipsch R-41PM are better however at $449 they are very overpriced for what they are since you can get the passive version Klipsch R-41 for $119 plus the Yamaha R-S202 ~~$149~~ $119 analog stereo receiver or if you must have a smaller amp the Nobsound G3 $55 digital mini amp. Plus some speaker wire.

Or 4″ Micca RB42 $149 go low for their small size.

Or if you must have 4″ powered speakers for a small room then a good value are Jamo S 801 PM ~~$299~~ $149.

The Sharps play louder than the Micca? How much did you have the volume of the receiver cracked up? I would think the Micca would hurt your ears and you would want to turn the volume down before they would blow. Are they in a very large room, what is the size LxWxH?

The edifiers are powered speakers. In order to hook speakers up to the vsx515 you will need passive speakers. Something like these.

You receiver is older so it doesn’t have hdmi inputs. You will need to make sure your TV has a digital audio output or rca output.

Might also want to consider surround sound speakers to maximize you TV sound if it has digital audio output .

As for Bluetooth you can connect one of these up to one of the rca input on your receiver and people can play their phones using it. Q

Hello everyone at r/audiophile. I’m a first-time buyer of bookshelf speakers and a subwoofer, for which I’ve put together my list of parts. What I need help with is understanding if I’ve correctly understood how I will set up my speakers and subwoofers

For my bookshelf speakers, I will be going with the Klipsch R-41M

For my subwoofer, I will use the Polk PSW10e, which appears to have its own power input

For my Amp, I will be using nobsound mini 200w

So here’s what I understand that I will need to do with the setup, from my amp, I will need to run the left and right channels into the subwoofers input channel (speaker level input). From there, I then connect two more wires from the Speaker level output channel into the Klipsch R-41M.

Do I need to take into account the Subwoofer’s power requirement? or is that not needed given that it would have its own power input? Furthermore, would there be any issues with this setup, or will the Klipsch R-41M power normally?

Many thanks for everyone’s help

Depends on how you connected them.

Do the speakers not work when connected to the turntable or other audio source?

Sony STR-DH190 receiver?

You could return the speakers and get some passive speakers on sale:

4″ for a small room:

5.25″ for a small to medium size room:

6.5″ for a medium to large size room:

If you like the sound of the Klipsch, you could get something like the following, although it’s a little above your budget. Any combination of the set below should be an improvement upon your Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 setup.

Obviously, if you really like Klipsch, I’d recommend going with the Reference Premiere line over the Reference. But that’s more money for better quality and really, even when they’re on sale there’s a lot of competition in the $250-$350 bookshelf segment. (see Speaker Recommendations)

Another thing to consider, if you really want good bass, you can get better subs like the SVS PB-1000 Outlet for $400 (incl. 5 year warranty) and goes down below 20hz. That will for sure let you feel the bass when gaming in that room size. (see other Subwoofer Recommendations)

Looks like they are still on sale: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FKH3VPV

Been waiting for the Emotiva B1+ to come back in stock so I could give my old Dayton MK402x to my wife for her setup. I got tired of waiting and bought the Elac debut B6 (original) instead and promptly returned them. To big and sounded like garbage to my ears, at least in a nearfield setup. Saw the sale on these and decided to pick them up and see what the deal is with klipsch. So far I am loving them, totally not flat or neutral sounding but I love the live/dynamic sound they produce, super engaging for rock, metal and classical. However the bass drops like a rock below 60hz, so not usable without a sub IMO. However I already have a sub so not an issue for me. Worth picking up even just to try at this low price! I plan to keep these for awhile before trying the emtoiva’s.

How much? Next door town or zip to search for more options?

4″ mid bass driver R14M are ok for a small bedroom or go for larger 5.25″ or 6.5″ if you have room or medium to large size room.

The newer improved version are 4″ Klipsch R-41M $139.

Better Klipsch next step up Premiere series and a size larger are 5″ Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-150M ~~$419~~ $219.

Speakers under $150:

  • 5″ Wharfedale Crystal CR 4.2 ~~$249~~ $149 black or walnut.
  • 5″ C-Note $109 speaker DIY kit. Add around $30 for supplies then budget for tools if you don’t have any. Glue, clamp, solder, paint, assemble. Compare to built speakers costing over twice as much.

Hello, I’m looking to get together a moderate setup. Here is what I’m thinking:

Turntable: Fluance RT82

Passive Speakers: Klipsch R-41M

Analog Stereo Receiver: Sony STRDH190

All in all, it comes in at ~$600 (USD). Does anyone see any issues with this setup or think I should swap out anything to remain at the same price point?

Not really a great deal. They are an old model of Klipsch no longer produced. The R-41m have similar sized drivers and are a significant improvement for $40 more. They’re often on sale for much less too. Black Friday will likely have the larger and much better R-51m for about $125

Well their are several routes to do that, really good monitors ie: Klipsh makes the best that I know of that are on the lower end of expensive. Such as : Klipsch (4 in), they are rather small though, but are amazingly clear and have great low end (for their size). Bose is always a good call, I used to love my Bose surround w/acousticmass module. Any Klipsch above 6in will have all the bass you need. You could go with KRK Rokits, they are kind of a standard for producers, djs, etc…

If you want to have an epic sound experience I would recommend getting something along the lines of :

Klipsch – 6.5 in reference Monitor (absolutely amazing speakers)

then to ensure proper low end Klipsch – 12 in subwoofer these give crazy clear, concise bass. Probably my favorite sub i have and I own a 15 in KRK Sub, and several JBL, Pioneer and Presonus subs.

Klipsch also makes full on dolby atmos systems, which are by far imo the best surround systems ever created. But I am biased, Klipsch kind of won me over a couple years ago. Hopefully this helps.

>I don’t know of any. Fluance RT82 $299 $275 with $25 off coupon code “Review25” has auto stop and a new optical sensor speed controlled servo motor for much lower wow and flutter and speed variation. It includes an OM10 cartridge which is a bit better than the newer version 2M Red on the RT83. Pass on the older RT81 that lacks the new speed sensor. The you can upgrade to the Nagaoka MP-110 later.

I will keep this in mind. If my AT-LP2x keeps working well I hope to keep it for another year. I did order the Pfanstiehl 4211DE stylus. I have never replaced a stylus. I should be able to swap it and not need to realign it right? Might need to level and adjust tracking force I imagine. Wont hurt to check the alignment but it should not change right?

>Different model lines from the same brand often have different tweeters and mid bass drivers so they will have a bit different sound signature. Though sure the center does not absolutely have to be a matching model or brand.

I did some more reading on this last night and yeah I guess you should buy the same brand and model for the front 3. You don’t have to but it is a good general rule.

>Whatever you do don’t buy another PSW10. One better performing subwoofer will be better than 2 low performance subwoofers. A better subwoofer will be more accurate and tuned better. It won’t break up or be sloppy.
>
>If you want a budget subwoofer, the Dayton Audio SUB-1200 is much better.
>
>Better 10″ than the Polk, BOSTON ACOUSTICS ASW250 $349.99 $199.99
>
>If you want a Polk, 12″ POLK AUDIOHTS 12 $449.99 $329.99
>
>Next step up 10″ RSL Speedwoofer 10S $399.
>
>Next step up 12″ $550+ are HSU Research and Rythmik Audio. Or SVS sealed 12″ is $500 or ported is $800.

Noted. I think I am going to have to do some research on this and just wait to buy a quality one down the line. My current setup is my first try and it is definitely budget. I am enjoying it but I know there is much improvement to be made.

>leave me with the center Polk speaker having no use
>
>Sell it.

I imagine when I get a new sub this would be your advice for my current Polk one.

>Klipsch are less bright then they used to be and are good for home theater dialog.

I ended up ordering R-41Ms as they were $117 for the pair. I kept having doubts about the T15s. I plan to use them as surrounds but I want to test them out for music and even as mains. I know the timbre could be quite off with the center but at least I will learn something. I am hoping as surrounds they wont be distracting. Might return them and go with one of the others that you recommended. If I do enjoy them I might eventually switch over to Klipsch.

I need to do some research, do you know if my receiver would let me use the surrounds as zone 2? I am thinking possibly using the fronts and center for video games while playing music on the surrounds. Or possibly just playing music on the surrounds but also use the subwoofer for it. This wouldn’t be a regular thing, maybe just for testing or for some racing games.

Thanks for all your help!
