Do you have an amp/receiver already?

If not, then I might suggest waiting for a sale on some Klipsch R15PM powered bookshelf speakers. The cherry pair hits $250 pretty frequently. They have a built-in phono preamp, an AUX input, Optical in, and Bluetooth. Being powered, you don’t need a receiver to push them. Otherwise you might be able to get a receiver for $150 but that doesn’t leave you much for speakers to go with them.

You might also look at studio monitors. I would hit up your Amazon site and see what’s out there. Try a search for “powered bookshelf speakers” or “studio monitors”.

I wouldn’t be surprised if amazon does this but the other thing is that with the dot, you can hook it up to any speaker you want, so if you want that really nice sound quality, get some nice Bookshelf speakers like the Klipsch R-15PMs or something like that and they’ll still be smart speakers

The only disadvantage is you cant upgrade the amp and the speaker component separately.

Anyway, around $250 this would be the pick https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072M34NBW/ref=psdc_3236451011_t1_B01A7J534G

I’m in a very similar situation right now. Here’s what I’ve been looking at.

These guys are generally well reviewed and get a lot of praise on various Reddit forums: https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-R-15PM-Powered-Monitor-Cherry/dp/B072M34NBW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1518194084&sr=8-1&keywords=klipsch+bookshelf+speakers+powered

I wanted those but my fiance vetoed them on aesthetic ground so I’m probably gonna go with these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NAQI236/ref=sr_1_1_twi_col_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1518194329&sr=1-1&keywords=kanto+yu6

Kanto’s a newer company so they don’t have quite the reputation Klipsch has but they seem to be well reviewed.

My pleasure. If you want a really minimalistic setup, there are now active speakers with a built in phono pre-amp, such as these Klipsch: https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-R-15PM-Powered-Monitor-Cherry/dp/B072M34NBW
