I had those bookshelf speakers for two years and they were ok. I just upgraded to these Klipsch speakers. I was lucky enough to get them two weeks ago for $125 through Amazon Warehouse. It’s a night/day difference and I couldn’t be happier with the upgrade.
·
if you like the klipsch sound, amazon has a few pairs 50% off. https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-R-15M-Bookshelf-Speaker-Pair/dp/B00LMF41IY/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1531418853&sr=1-3&keywords=klipsch%20bookshelf%20speakers
I some how didn’t notice the sub comment before, scratch that, I vote elac debut 2.0’s as well
·
I’d look into something fairly efficient, since the 450 is only 15 watts per channel. A lot of small cheap bookshelves are pretty power hungry (mid-80s efficiency), and will sound kinda ehhh with a low-powered amp, and cause it to clip and distort easily when turned up. That can actually wind up hurting your speakers more than if you hooked them into some monster amp and fed them too much power. Klipsch speakers are probably your best bet, since they’re pretty efficient and sound quite nice on old receivers.
Found a used pair of R15’s for $109 on Amazon. At 94dB/1 watt, that SX450 will be all the amp you’ll ever need.

Thank you for responding, I hope u wouldn’t mind just letting me what you think of these:
Klipsch R-15M Bookshelf Speaker (Pair) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00LMF41IY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_wnPuAb5DPNZXN
And do u have any suggested amps or would any do
·
I’m really beginning to consider picking these up. Half-price is very appealing. But I’m also really considering getting these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LMF41IY?ref_=ams_ad_dp_ttl
However, for $50 less for something with a value of $100 more, I’m not sure. I only have experience with Polk with my PSW10, but my roommate has a Klipsch system for his computer and they sound really nice.
So to Polk or to Klipsch??
·
I have these on my desk at work, paired with a small tube amplifier. I like them a lot.
·
Then I may have a speaker problem instead. That is the short end on my set up. Any thoughts on these?
·
Sonos beam is $399 right ? For that money you can do this 2.1 Setup.
Type | Item | Price |
---|---|---|
Speaker | Klipsch R-15M Bookshelf Speaker | $159 @ Amazon |
Sub | Dayton Audio SUB-800 | $99 @ Amazon |
Receiver | Poineer VSX 530 | $139.99 @ Accessories4less |
Speaker Wire | AmazonBasics 16-Gauge Speaker Wire – 50 Feet | 8.49 @ Amazon |
Total | $406.48 |
Edit: Forgot to add that the receiver is bluetooth, which solves your problem of using the speakers without having to turn the TV on.

http://www.cardpool.com/sell/gift-cards-for-amazon-gift-card
Swap your Dell gift cards for Amazon gift cards. Your option #3 is $800 on Dell. pool will give you a $695 Amazon gift card for $800 worth of Dell gift cards. That might sound like a crappy exchange, but Dell is HUGELY overcharging for those speakers.
$702 on Amazon will get you the same center speaker and better LR and sub.
https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-R-15M-Bookshelf-Monitor-Speakers/dp/B00LMF41IY
https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-Reference-Center-Channel-Loudspeaker/dp/B0040QW7KQ
https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-R-12SW-R12SW-Subwoofer/dp/B00MJ1YR8Y
So, you get a better system by swapping the gift cards and spending an extra $7.
Your option #2 is $850 on Dell, or $723 on Amazon. pool will give you $738 for $850 worth of Dell gift cards.
The Dell price on option #1 is just as insane. Dell wants $599 for the R-10B, but you can get it on Amazon for $350. Or you can step up to the R-20B for $499 on Amazon.
Of course, once you convert the Dell cards to Amazon cards, there are a ton of other options open to you too.
·
for the price, the LSR305 and sub is the best value at the $500 mark
you used euro, so I’m gonna link german amazon. Klipsch R-15M is a decent speaker. there’s probably better for €200, but you won’t be disappointed. the Auna AV2 looks pretty nice, but I’ve never actually used or seen too much of it, but the reviews seem good and it looks pretty good. Pioneer A-10 is also a good option. those two plus tax will probably hit your budget (not sure how much tax is), but if you have some money, it might be worth grabbing a sub
you can also try a different pair of powered speakers. these Edifiers are pretty decent as well, and they’re well within your budget if you don’t actually want to spend the full 500
·
> Are there any good “sets” like those available on amazon with a receiver and speakers all together in ny price range?
Unfortunately no, plus it’s cheaper to buy the components separately.

> If not what is my easiest path to a decent set up (receiver/speakers in ny price range) note: I have seen the yamaha refurb on other posts and am open to that
AVR’s on the cheap(ish) = accessories4less.com prices are inflated right now do to supply and demand due to Covid. Many receivers were $100 to even $200 cheaper prior to all this shit.
Speakers really will depend on how much you spend on the AVR.
But say you got the top end of your budget for $600 this is what I’d personally get
Speakers = https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-R-15M-Bookshelf-Speaker-Pair/dp/B00LMF41IY Can be had for around $100 for the pair, they go on sale regularly
Subwoofer = BIC F12 https://www.amazon.com/BIC-America-F12-475-Watt-Subwoofer/dp/B0015A8Y5M $209
add in speaker wire, HDMI cable, and subwoofer cable and you’re at $600
·
Well at risk of being “that guy” I’ll be the first to say that you’ll get better sound out of your TT if you move the speakers to stands. With that said I think in this thread you’ll get a lot of love for the Klipsch R-15 and the Wharfedale Diamond 220s here. This is also a good pick as is this.
·
R15m. If I were to get some now it would be the RP-500m- those bad boys sound great.
·
There are also some Klipsch deals for those who like their sound. These are their bookshelf speakers 50% off. I know people usually hate on Klipsch as far as value for the money, but I think I’ve read that at these prices they may be a great value for the money.
R-15M for $124 on Amazon or Best Buy
R-14M for $99 on Amazon

Klipsch:
- Possibly 5.25″ Klipsch R-15M over the 1 newer generation but smaller 4″ Klipsch R41.
- If going Klipsch, the Reference Premiere are much better but more pricey. Klipsch RP-150M $300, or the larger Klipsch RP-160M $330 if going without a subwoofer.
Speaker recommendations from AverageJoeAudiophile and r/HTBuyingGuide.
5.25″:
- Infinity Reference 152 $140 refurbished.
- Wavecrest Audio HVL-1, and order on sale at Ascend $80 each + shipping. Budget “Ascends“. Neutral sound with a linear frequency response. Manufacturer direct value, no middlemen reseller costs. To me, similar to the KEF Q100.
- DIY: C-Notes $100. Add around $50+ for tools and supplies.
- Emotiva Airmotive B1 $230.
- Boston A25 $150 pair bogo.
- Polk S15 walnut, $150.
- Towers: Boston A250 Dual 5.25" $225 pair.
- Wharfedale Diamond 220 $250.
6.5″ if going without a subwoofer or adding one much later.
- Big JBL Studio 230 $200
- Boston A26 $195 pair bogo.
- Polk S20, walnut, $180 shipped.
- BIC Venturi DV62si $120.
Speaker Stands: Audio Advisor, most also available at Amazon. Also Dayton Audio SSMB24, Monoprice Glass or Monolith by Monoprice

If your Scott amp was a preamp out you can use that into the Edifers. Ideally you can return them and purchase some passive speakers. Maybe something like this https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-R-15M-Bookshelf-Speaker-Pair/dp/B00LMF41IY/ref=sr_1_37?crid=1LMAIPPJFJA3C&dchild=1&keywords=bookshelf+speakers+pair&qid=1595654306&sprefix=bookshel%2Caps%2C256&sr=8-37

The Micca’s are not bad but here are some upgrades that I would consider if you’re just itching.
- Boston A25 BOGO $150 total – Good smooth books with a nice big soft dome tweeter.
- Klipch R-15m $160 – These will have a tweeter more like the Micca, a bit on the hot side but they have toned them down from their older horns. Worth a listen if you like your stuff loud.
- NHT Super Zero 2.1 $70ea – Small sealed speakers so you’ll need the sub but they should sound great.
- Polk S15 $165 – Larger books but these new Polk’s do sound good. They will go low enough to cross at a good level.
- KEF E301 $200 – The Eggs! These sound great but again will need a sub as they don’t go low at all. KEF’s at a great price.
·
If that is the case keep the towers, but get the Denon X1500H $300 instead of the X2400. Get Klipsch R-15M – $170 for surrounds instead of R-51M and put the money you saved into a different subwoofer.
·
For anything larger than a small room, 5.25″ Klipsch R-15M would be more comparable to the 5.25″ Boston A25. Both are ok, I would try the Bostons since entry level Klipsch can be bright. If I had to go Klipsch, Reference Premiere with Klipsch RP-150M.
I still recommend the Wavecrest Audio HVL-1, and order on sale here at Ascend $80 each + shipping.
Or the Infinity Reference 152 $140 Refurbished over the Bostons.
The Edifiers are 4″ and if you have a small room and want to stay with 4″, Pioneer SP-BS22 $100, Wharfedale Diamond 210 $150 on sale are a good buy though may be warm and laid back, or even $80 Micca MB42X or the new Micca RB42.
·
You are tight on room but will be adding a subwoofer? A full size AV receiver with HDMI switching is best for use with a TV.
If you are going to get the Klipsch R-15M anyway in a year, just go with a small mini amp for now then upgrade to a full size receiver when you move.
Mini amps: In budget, Kinter K2020A $33. Better Dayton Audio DTA-120BT $75, or Micca OriGain adds a USB and optical input DAC $100.
Receiver example for next year: $160 refurbished Denon AVR-S530BT 5.2 with HDCP 2.2 and HDMI 2.0b for 4k switching.
Or if you are upgraded in a year, consider going budget for now.
$105 Edifier R1280DB
$55 Bundle 6-1/2" 2-Way Bookshelf Speaker Pair and Hi-Fi Mini Amplifier Bundle
Other speakers: If going Klipsch, consider saving up for the better Reference Premiere line.
$100 Budget option, closeout dual 5.25″ Polk Audio Monitor 40 Series
$200 Klipsch RB-51 II are better than R-15 for only $23 more.
$160 + shipping, Wavecrest Audio HVL-1, order on sale here at Ascend $80 each + shipping. Better than R-15M and RB-51.
Don’t forget speaker wire and self adjusting wire strippers or basic.

Not sure how they compare to the Klipsch R-15M on sale for $180 with the same $250 MSRP.
I have tried the Klipsch RB-51II and returned them, though maybe I needed the 61 size to compare with my Ascend CBM-170s.
If I had to choose Klipsch, I would only try the Reference Premier line, though they cost more than $300.

You will be moving the speakers back and forth from your desk to your TV?
For movies on your TV, an AV Receiver with 4k HDMI:
$150 refurbished 5.2 Denon AVR-S530BT
Speakers with the remaining $200:
Wavecrest Audio HVL-1, order here on sale $80 each + $25 shipping = $185
Klipsch R-15M $180
DIY: C-Note MT $100, 2x Classix II MT $115 each, Dayton Audio BR $180 pair.
Speaker wire: Pure Copper Oxygen Free and self-adjusting wire strippers.

·
These Klipsch R-15M are on sale for $160 plus the Denon receiver recommended for $150 would put you at $310 for a very nice set up. Higher end of your budget, but it’d probably be worth it.

Better to ask there tbh.

Some subreddit, i think its audiophiles, really really love kilpsch’s.

I just tossed my Logitech 2.1 system & started the upgrade process for my PC.
I just got this Denon AVR-S530BT for $140 shipped (I’m US, not sure what it’d be for you). That’s an absolute steal for this AVR, even if it is factory refurbished.
I had an old set of 2.1 speakers lying around, but I’m still on the fence about getting the Klipsch R-15M‘s that are on sale right now, they’re supposed to be pretty good, especially at that price.
For subs, just check /r/Zeos and read the subs thread.
·
Only available through 3rd party sellers. (non-referral link)
·
Okay this makes a lot more sense thank you! I’m definitely going to go the amp you recommended, but these speakers I was recommended I think i’ll go for. And with that I think I’ll be set!
Just wondering, what would happen if i just tried to link my phone straight to the speakers via bluetooth or with a wire?
Also if I’m going with bluetooth would that make speaker wire not needed?
·
This is the one i have my eye on. What else will i need?
·
Since you have amp, you can get the cheaper R15M’s that aren’t powered.
·
Well, for classic rock and metal, Klipsch is king.
You can grab these Klipsch R15M. They’re on sale right now, great deal.
Then grab this amplifier to power the speakers.
Then, later, you can add this subwoofer to fill in the lower bass. For now, the speakers alone should give you plenty of bass and power.
·
I worry I am making a mistake though and should just get these new for $200 and be done with it.

For home theater, the center channel is the most important. Most of the sound and dialogue comes from the center.
You only really need to match the front left and right speakers to the center. The surrounds can be different.
Unfortunately, I don’t know anything about that Tannoy or if you can still get the official matching front speakers for it.
For the looks that you like, you could get a pair of these for the front:
https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-R-15M-Bookshelf-Speaker-Pair/dp/B00LMF41IY
And a pair of these for the rear:
https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-R-14M-Reference-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B00MGQAH2M
But they will sound very different from your current center, so you might as well sell it and replace it with this:
https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-Reference-R-25C-Channel-Speaker/dp/B00LMFYRIS

RB-15’s are only $209 a pair on Amazon.

It isn’t hate for Razer, it is hate for all the low quality brands that gamers love to buy their audio from.
Try looking into bookshelf speakers, and /r/audiophile has a purchase advice thread to post and search through.
Here is something I threw together in a few seconds, speakers, amp and dac, you might need some cabling too (I have no idea if this is a good setup). Hopefully someone else who knows speaker can help.
·
Hi I’m looking to start getting into some newer speakers, moving on from my old logitech computer speakers.
Was thinking of getting these klipsch speakers for a basic book shelf start.
I was suggested to get this amp
As a side note I’ve got these head phones, sennheiser HD 558 so I’m trying to use an amp that I can use well with those too.
