Sounds like a good setup. Might I suggest, though, that you consider some different main speakers? If I were you, I’d probably pick up the KANTO YU6 instead. Currently on sale at a great price, have a dedicated sub out which makes connecting the NSD easy, and also has blue tooth so you can play music from your phone/laptop/whatever without the need of an additional component or chord. Either option is fine, and the JBLs are fairly well regarded for affordable active monitors. Also, there have been several “vs” discussions between these two on Reddit you can look up – not sure what the real consensus is. Short story – you’ll be fine with either!

Keep in mind proper speaker placement plays a huge role in how good a set up is going to sound. There are lot’s of articles out there but this was the first one that showed up on google.

That doesn’t mean a set up can’t sound good in a small room but if you are looking for “compact” you are going to have to make sacrifices. Also you don’t want to be moving around your turntable often.

Active speakers (I’m a fan on Kanto $339) is going to be your best bet for compact paired with a turntable that has a built in pre amp. LP120x is a popular and solid starter table ($249).

You can also get something like a DJ PREII ($65) if your turntable doesn’t have a built in pre amp and run that into powered speakers.

There is no all in one option out there that is going to sound good or work properly unless you want to spend $3000+ (but even then I’d question if you are getting proper stereo separation).

A subwoofer output is where you plug the subwoofer in. Either on a receiver or powered speakers that have it.

If you want powered speakers with a subwoofer output, Kanto YU6 among others for example.

Do you like the Adam active speakers for the way they look? Sure you can use them, however “Professional Studio Monitors” are just that, to be used in a studio for professional sound production. From the Adam website, “perfectly suited for use in small control rooms for music production, video post-production and broadcast production”. If you would want to add a subwoofer you would probably add a rack mount subwoofer crossover.

If you like KEF, $500 refurbished Q350 passive speakers.

For a better bang for the buck:

Philharmonic AAM $200 +shipping with a 2 week in home trial period. They have a great low end and don’t necessarily need a subwoofer for music, or right away for home theater.

ELACs are on sale, B6.2 for $250.

Ascend CBM-170s $300 +shipping. Best budget audiophile speakers I have found and own. Since they are internet direct they compare well with speakers costing hundreds more from the big brands. Neutral sound with a flat frequency response. SEAS of Norway tweeters, custom mid-bass drivers, and big dual layer crossovers. 30 day in home trial.

Receivers: $150 refurbished stereo receiver ONKYO TX-8220. For an AV Receiver with 4k HDMI, $150 refurbished Denon AVR-S530BT or the popular $320 Denon AVR1400 7.2 with Audessy.

Separate amp, stereo or AV receiver with passive speakers can be better and more flexible than powered speakers.

If going powered, maybe something larger than the 4″ Transparent Zeros to go with the 12″ sub, also with subwoofer output + bluetooth.

6.5″ Fluance ai60 $299 when back in stock

5″ Kanto YU6, $389

5″ PeachTree Audio M25 $399

I’d get the kanto YU6s over both, and add a good entry level sub with the money saved.
