I use a pair of relatively flat JVC headphones that can be placed under or between your pillows. I have a memory foam base pillow with a feather one on top, and can barely feel the headphones through it.
I tried several different speakers designed to go under the pillow, as well as a pillow with a built in speaker, but they were all mono, and the sound was terrible.

Great sound quality for the price.
I also love Koss Porta Pros, but the price went up on them and I’m pinching pennies at the moment.
Sennheiser PX100’s are good too.
I like my quality, affordable headphones. Won’t catch me with Beats on.
