No joke, these headphones are actually great. They’re light weight and have good sound quality. I married an audiophile, and he loves them too. They’re easy to wipe down after a sweaty run and you can hand wash the foam covers.

IMO you don’t really need super high quality headphones for spoken word recordings.

What you may want to consider first is ease of use. If you get a pair of Bluetooth headphones to pair with your smartphone/tablet then you’re essentially free to wander around (within range) and not be tethered to the device. It’s pretty liberating.

Next consideration would be the environment. If it is usually fairly quiet, then you don’t really need noise cancelling features. If it’s noisy around you, that becomes more important.

Third would be if you want over/on ear or earbuds.

I use Apple AirPods with some silicone covers to make them fit better.
