I just linked this in my reply to OP but maybe it’ll work better for you? I had a horrible reaction to the TO at first and started using this with great results. Now I can alternate between this and TO, I agree that 10% may be too much starting out. I definitely won’t repurchase the TO again and just stick to this amazon one.

Hi! I found this
5% Niacinamide serum. Has anyone tried this? I am aware that many companies provided free or discounts for reviews (which would typically be positive). I am super excited to try it since ive been searching for products with more niacinamide for my redness.

I’m allergic to zinc compounds!

I like this one: Insta Natural Niacinamide

Ingredients:
Aqua, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Niacinamide, Glycerin, Dicaprylyl Ether, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Ceteareth-6 Olivate, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Sodium Hydroxypropyl Starch Phosphate, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Hesperidin, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Hibiscus Rosa-Sinensis Flower Extract, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Sodium Hyaluronate, Melia Azadirachta Seed Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Tocopherol, Xanthan Gum, Pentylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Linalool.

I’m subscribed to it one on Amazon for $13 for 2 oz.

It’s also listed #2 under Skinceuticals’ Niacinamide serum in this article

OMG, sorry. The Peach & Lilly Glass Serum would be expensive for you, then.

Yes, you can have oily skin that is dehydrated. The oil is just a moisture barrier but the moisture levels can be low. Hyaluronic acid is a substance in our tissues that is hydrophilic – it binds moisture. A very good source for good skin care products on a college budget is Korean products, like Hada Labo on yesstyle.com. For example, the Hada Labo hyaluronic acid serums also have different kinds of hyaluronic acid which penetrate into skin differently and bind water. The cost-conscious Asian products are comparable prices to discount American brands like The Ordinary, but you get huge bottles for those prices with the Asian brands. The Eva Naturals & Instanaturals lines sold on yeststyle.com (and amazon, too) are also amazing products for the price. ($14 for 2 oz on Amazon for Instanaturals Niacinamide serum which is packed with lots of bioactive ingredients). The best bentonite clay product is also super cheap (just mix with apple cider vinegar to make the mask). All 3 of those products should last for months.

Good luck with your PhD!! 🙂

The ingredient list is very long, but doesn’t raise any red flags. It is pretty pricey… $45 for 40ml (just over 1 oz) on Amazon. If you are using this AS a moisturizer, instead of just a serum, such a small bottle wouldn’t last long.

I usually look at the “active” ingredients of complicated and overpriced formulas, and see if there is a simpler and less expensive way to get the same thing. With rosacea, less is more, so fewer ingredients is better. The only actives I see in Great Barrier Relief that are specific to rosacea are the Niacinamide (2%) and the Tamanu Oil (10%) <they call it Callophyllum Inophyllum Seed Oil>. So if I wanted the benefits of these ingredients, I would buy a plain Niacinamide Serum and then moisturize after with a few drops of plain organic, cold-pressed Tamanu Oil. You would get all the important benefits of Great Barrier Relief at a fraction of the price. But that’s just me.

Niacinamide 5% Serum – – – 2oz

Tamanu Oil – Organic – 4oz

It’s a fun club, isn’t it??? I started by fixing my moisture barrier — I was too sensitive to use any other products than Bioelements sensitive skin line. I used the recovery serum and a hydrating serum on top of their sensitive skin moisturizing face wash and moisturizer. I started with a travel size kit from their website to test drive the products and figure out what my skin liked. After a few months of some of their very gentle products, my skin toughened up and I was able to move on to this very minimal routine:

AM:
InstaNatural Niacinamide 5% Face Serum

OR I use The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

Christina Moss Naturals Moisturizer

PM:
The Ordinary Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12%

InstaNatural Antiaging Retinol cream

I’m going to start adding in and swapping out products soon, I’ve been sampling some other things. But out of that list, I think the best thing for my redness was the niacinamide in addition to the Bioelements stuff for very dry and sensitive skin to heal my moisture barrier in the beginning, which helped my sensitivity, which helped my redness/irritation.

I also think zinc really soothes my face — I use a daily sunscreen that is mostly zinc oxide and I noticed my skin looks great after I wash it off, which is why I grabbed The Ordinary serum with zinc in it. And hylauronic acid for hydration is awesome, the Instanaturals serum has it in there. I know redness can be caused by a lot of diff things — so of course, what works for me might be different for you, but my skin tone is evening out nicely between the vit C and niacinamide!!

Side note, skincare things are hard to spell and pronounce.

Good luck! Hope it helps!

Oh hey you know, maybe your pocketderm Doc would be able to say what it is? This is the niacinamide serum I use and this is the vitamin C serum. Does your pocketderm perscription contain vitamin c and/or niacinamide already?
