I have a pen tablet ( not a tablet computer like an iPad or something) which I think is usually for digital artists. It has a big surface that you can draw on with a stylus that comes with it. It took some getting used to, but I’m pretty comfortable with it now. I then do my lectures on Microsoft white board (and just share that screen while recording the lectures). I think it works pretty well. There is a huge range in quality and pricing, but I’m happy with mine: HUION New 1060 Plus Graphic Amazon link

Price has gone up about 15 bucks from when I got it, but still worth imo.

I use a Huion 1060, its bigger (and newer) than the tablets others are recommending. A bigger drawing area is almost always better, this tablet also comes with 8-10 extra nibs and has tons of express buttons!

This is a VERY solid tablet (comparable to Wacom) for $82 on Amazon.

Depends on what you WANT. If you want a graphics tablet with a screen, those are much more expensive than ones without a screen. I honestly prefer one without and you get used to looking at your monitor rather than your drawing surface, but some people prefer a graphics tablet with a screen to look at the surface they are drawing on.

There are a lot of decent freeware art programs, so you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg to get started. I am biased for Clip Studio, which isn’t a free program but is really affordable, especially when it goes on sale several times a year.

Medibang was my favorite freeware, but I have seen a lot more artists recommend Krita for freeware instead. Nothing wrong with prefering something different though.

If you don’t mind a smaller non-screen drawing tablet to get started, you could easily start for under $50.

Huion for example is a Wacom competitor that is more affordable, O got a Large tablet for $70 at the start of this year. The One by Wacom is a pretty affordable tablet if you want to go with Wacom.

You don’t have to start with top of the line equipment. This is my current tablet (the connector port on my Wacom fell apart after 10 years of use) so I decided to give Huion a try. So far, I haven’t had any complaints about it, and it is MUCH cheaper for a Large tablet than Wacom would have been.

Basically the tablet is the only thing you would really need to purchase, if you went with a free program.

I think I’ve found what you suggested! The thing is that the pen is rechargeable instead of needing a battery. A lot of people seem to love it and it comes with a glove and case too. I was able to get the price down to $53 with the options they offered so I just went ahead and bought it! Thanks so much my guy!

>but could you tell me what’s the active area of your tablet

I just googled this dk if its accurate but its 10″ x 6.25″

https://www.amazon.com/HUION-1060-Plus-Graphic-Pressure/dp/B01FTE9HS2 and btw here’s the link

>was the active area the only issue you had with the xp pen tablet?

Well I was never actually able to make proper art with that tablet, maybe I could’ve put more effort into making one but it just wasnt it for me.I kinda wasted my money on it but well it was kinda cheap too so the quality wasnt that good.

That’s another one I added to my list! Along with HUION New 1060 Plus Graphic Drawing Tablet with 8192 Pen Pressure 12 Express Keys and Built-in 8GB MicroSD bc it has more buttons lol. I’m also using it mainly in Krita, a little bit of Gravit.

Do you know what the SD card would even be used for? How long does the pen battery last you? Have you used it for handwritten notes?

To the best of my knowledge, the Huion NEW 1060 plus is Huion’s must updated tablet and the one that I have. It fixes some of the minor inconveniences that people had with previous models. I’ve had no problems with it since the couple months that I bought it.

Huion on Amazon has good prices. I grabbed this for $60 on Prime Day, looks like it’s still got a coupon offer making it around $66.

Do you have all the latest drivers for your H1060P? Have you tried using a different mini usb to USB-C cable?

Sounds like you might have either pulled or pushed the cable at an awkward angle and damaged the mini usb port inside the tablet itself. I assume the cables you use look fine. If that is the case then I discourage you from attempting to repair it.

Reddit: Someone tries to solder a new mini usb port

u/snailcall Photo of Electronics Inside Huion Pen Tablet

Based off the comments the way his mini usb port was damaged its completely beyond repair and he never reported back if he successfully repaired it so I assume he has a dead tablet. Unless you already have the equipment to solder or extra mini usb parts laying around it can easily cost you $100+USD in equipment to repair a $70 tablet based on US Amazon listings.

I think it might be too late to contact Amazon customer service to replace the tablet or even accept a return. That’s up to you if you want to ask the person who gifted the tablet to you to send you a screenshot of the Amazon Order so you can contact Amazon on your own time. You might just want to go ahead and purchase a new tablet off of Amazon.

As of writing this post I see a US Amazon listing for the same tablet.

Huion Inspiroy H1060P $66.99USD (Sold by HUION) [US Amazon]

It has a 25% off coupon which would bring it down to around $50.25 and then with added tax it might be around $54.00 depending on your taxes. This already feels like an easier route. It’s up to you.

I have never owned a tablet before and I’m ready to purchase my first. However, I’m having a really hard time figuring out which one to purchase. I’ve read and watched videos that say Wacom only, but I’ve also read that some competitors offer decent tablets for less.

Basically, I would like something that will last but not break the bank (I know that’ may be asking a lot). I plan on working in Maya/Zbrush & doing general sketches/digital painting so something that works for that. Right now I’m eyeing the Huion 1060 plus for the low end, and the Wacom Intuos Medium.

Edit: Or I can get the Pro version but small. According to Amazon it is larger?

Help? :/

Hey Kim! I’m using the HUION New 1060 Tablet because it was on sale when I bought it (about 54$). Here is a link to it on amazon if you are interested!

Well this is the one I started with! Large drawing area, comes with a stylus, plenty of shortcut buttons. One of the best budget tablets out there by far.

i made beautiful, smooth lines with my bamboo splash. sorry you weren’t able to fix it. that tablet eventually died and I decided to try a Huion bc the pressure levels are the same, and it feels like the same thing but it has buttons. (and is cheaper than a wacom) this is the one I use: https://www.amazon.com/Huion-1060-Plus-Graphic-Pressure/dp/B01FTE9HS2/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1537415043&sr=1-2-spons&keywords=huion&psc=1

What about this One? https://www.amazon.it/dp/B01FTE9HS2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_fw.dBbPHRZ67C
It’s not an English link but you should be able to get the model

By all means, if you can drop $500 on a tablet that suits you much better, then go for it.

It might be worth considering that you can get a 10 x 6.25 inch Huion 1060 for about $85 or the Q11K for $30 more (I don’t know the difference). I haven’t tried a Huion as I use the old model of the Wacom Intuos Pro Medium, but you needn’t spend hundreds of dollars to access a medium sized surface any more 🙂

At this point, whatever choice you make is going to be a nice step up from what you have.
