I don’t plan on customizing any time soon but even if i did the non optical costs less than the optical. So since i’m getting optical which should i get? I’m thinking red or silver. The difference is about 10€ (from belgium btw i’ll link the Amazon)
Should i get the keyboard if i’m not gonna be customizing? And in case i shouldn’t what should i get?

So I’m buying a “GK61 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard – 61 Keys Multi Color RGB Illuminated LED Backlit Wired Programmable for PC/Mac Gamer (Gateron Optical Red, Black)” on amazon and it has Cherry MX equivalent switches. Does that mean if I want alternative keycaps, and they fit Cherry MXs, they’ll fit on this keyboard?

thanks! this might sound like a dumb question, but if I were buying a pre-built GK61 from amazon or banggood, there would already be a plate included correct? Would this plate fit in the KBD case? I read on some thread that I would need a different plate to make these two fit.

I would recommend something like this which is $3000, and an additional $75 for keyboard.
i7-10700f with 8 cores and good gaming performance, but at 1440p your dad is likely more limited by GPU than anything.
32gb of ram, 1tb ssd and 2tb hard drive for storage
a 3070 that seems to be available right here: https://www.mightyape.com.au/product/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3070-gaming-pro-8gb-palit-gpu/34010870
a 750w psu to power the rig
mesh front case with good airflow, 2 included fans, and i added 2 arctic 140mm fans for the front to push more air
curved monitors are all VA panels and those imo aren’t going to be the best quality, I’d recommend an IPS panel instead but those don’t come curved. So VA it is
this keyboard comes with hot-swappable gateron reds, and honestly i like those the best in terms of quality and feel. Go to a box store if possible and try keyboards for yourself to see which switch you like! https://www.amazon.com.au/GK61-Hot-Swappable-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B07QYHPCHD/ref=sr_1_14?dchild=1

Hello! I’m in the market for my first 60% keyboard. I have borrowed a Ducky One 2 Mini with Blues, Reds, Silvers, and I like the Reds best. I’ve been researching for better alternatives on Reddit and came across this post. I found the GK61s on Amazon for cheaper than the Ducky ( https://www.amazon.com/HK-Gaming-Mechanical-Illuminated-Programmable/dp/B07QYHPCHD?th=1 ).

Would the GK61 with Optical Reds feel the same as a Ducky with Reds? What makes the GK61 better than the Ducky? My friend who lent me the keyboards is bound to ask 😅. Thank you so much for any help!

Wait… Don’t you guys mean Switches and not Keycaps? I don’t know if the terms are just getting mixed or whatnot.
However, as for a gaming keyboard that won’t break the bank, I suggest going with a GK61 or a GH60. It’s hot-swappable meaning you can swap the switches in and out for a different feel when you want. I’ve had one for over 4 months now and I typically destroy switches within a matter of a couple of months (I play too much Osu).
Here is a link to their Amazon page, there are 3 different switch types available. Blues are tactile and clicky, Brown are tactile and reds are linear. I’ve tried all three on this keyboard in particular, and the switches are Gateron (so much smoother than Cherry, hands down).

GH60 (You’ll need some switches and keycaps for this but it’s fun to build.): https://www.amazon.com/Independent-Bluetooth-Mechanical-Keyboard-Plastic/dp/B07N2MVRKR/ref=sr_1_10?keywords=GH60&qid=1565796372&s=electronics&sr=1-10

$400 leftover for any GPU price increases.
Note: buying this system means that you commit to buying a GPU, which will be very difficult right now due to the shortage. One week is definitely not enough to be looking for a GPU. If this is something you want, then try to buy a GPU first, then get the rest when you know you’ve locked one in.
Alternatively, you could buy an expensive prebuilt, which will guarantee you a GPU.
Black RGB airflow build.
Let me know what you think 🙂
