I bought the Hidizs dongle. Probably not much better than the on-board DAC but it does add a little bit of power to the signal which is nice for ipad or phone use. It does list more specs on the Amazon page.

You need one with DAC (digital analog converter). You can find one on Amazon or even buy the Apple one (Wich has good reviews and low price).

I personally use this one with my OP6 and very happy with it.

If you consider yourself an “audiophile” then it might be worth checking this DAC dongle out. I haven’t used it, but I recall hearing some decent things about it (or maybe this brand?) But if it seems like a bust could be a place to continue looking from

Yes, android 10 supports audio out over USB. It has to, most phones now don’t have an audio jack.

If you want a good, cheap dongle get this, I’ve had one for a while and it’s great: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07F2DTTGT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_gdtpFbKVG7CY5

I’ve become quite the fan of this thing with the D firmware flashed (hitting their website explains how to flash firmware):

safe – thanks man, was looking at the FIIO but they all look fairly enormous. the irony here is that i bought the USB C to 3.5mm with the most DAC street cred that HIDIZS one here and still getting that weird glitch out. oh well.

Any passive USB C adaptor works well. I tried a few different ones and ultimately decided to spend a little extra to get the Hidizs Sonata. The performance beats all the other adaptors out of the water and it doesn’t cost that much more.

I’ve been rocking this dongle that’s been praised at audio forums for a few days now, and I loved it so much I got another.

Not sure which ones you’re referring to that bizarrely don’t work, but clearly there are those that work as intended.

I’d rather get a Type-C dongle DAC. Simple adapters are pretty trash in terms of sound quality, at least on my 6T.

I use this: https://www.amazon.com/HIDIZS-Portable-Headphone-Amplifier-Smartphone/dp/B07F2DTTGT/

Read the top review on Amazon. It seems simple actually: https://www.amazon.com/HIDIZS-Portable-Headphone-Amplifier-Smartphone/dp/B07F2DTTGT

the linsoul link is the correct product, however I did buy mine from ebay.

The hidizs unit is this :

newwer than the one you linked to. Apple streams in AAC, which is fine. I’m not an audiophile, but I am on the spectrum a bit. Definitely more than a casual listener but less than Steve Guttenberg lol

Has been good to me so far, seen low-medium usage, mostly at night, great audio compared to the cheap ones :]

If you are concerned about sound quality – this adapter is a decent option.

Another solution, if you have high quality wired earphones is to get a bluetooth dac. I have this one, and it’s great. It also has a mic, so it means you can use high quality IEM’s even for things like video calls. I think the bluetooth dac is a good solution as it can be used across devices, and means you can get better earphones if a pair is damaged/lost for the price, if you were getting new bluetooth earphones.

you stated you want a portable source like a dap. I would recommend the Fiio box (m5 i think) or the hidiz ap80. Both are just over $100, small design, and sound great. the ap80 is my current running source paired with my Tin T2.

If you want another solution, there are a few different options that can push anything you throw at it. all of these will have bluetooth and/or audio in ports.

Fiio BTR5 is my usual recommendation. plenty of power and gain settings for all types of headphones. Even works well with IEMS, decently low noise floor. $130ish USD

Fiio Q5s is a leap forward. More power, little bigger, better amp, IMO. The fiio dac sounds are almost all similar if not the same, so power is what you will look for. Q5s has usb micro to most devices, bluetooth, audio in (digital in too), and swappable modules for THX and other buzz words. $300

ES100. Its in the same ballpark as the BTR5. Built in dac and amp that cleans up the sound nicely. little cheaper than the BTR5 at $99 USD.

Or you can go the usb c route, lots of options here.

Hidizs makes a usb c dongle like apple. linsoul makes the xduoo dongle. Both under $50 USD.

I know apple makes one too, I haven’t tested them myself I’m trying to give you some options.

Hopefully this is enough options for you, I will try and answer any questions you have about them.

You could get this:

https://www.amazon.com/HIDIZS-Portable-Headphone-Amplifier-Smartphone/dp/B07F2DTTGT/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=373AFKCB8DR2O&keywords=hidizs&qid=1550816383&s=electronics&sprefix=hidiz%2Celectronics%2C346&sr=1-1-spons&psc=1

as a Hi-Res option for your mobile phone and it does support microphone in. It’s really powerful(for its size) and its less than $30. Bluetooth mics are usually not great as they have to share power from the battery and the position isn’t great for voice pick up.

I’d say maybe get a better dongle. My suggestion is either try the Apple one, Razer one, or this one.

I ordered this. It’s. Not cheap, but it’s significantly louder than stock. Makes my train commute tolerable. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F2DTTGT

I’ve heard and read good things about the HIDIZS Sonata, but I have not personally used them. Might be worth a look. Curious as to how they stack up to the new Apple adapter.

The Apple dongle won’t work on non-Apple products even though it’s USB-C on one end. I know that sounds wrong, but it’s true. Somehow, it’s using a different type of USB-C connection than Samsung. I’d just search Amazon for such an adapter and make sure it’s compatible with your phone. A co-worker of mine uses the HIDIZS one and says it improved the sound. There are cheaper ones that probably work fine as well.
