It’s just a pretty cheap one from Amazon. I think it’s the one I linked below. I do like it, I’ve just changed the bulb to one I like better.

My only beef with many hobby store brushes is the dreaded “hook-tip” that cheap nylon brushes quickly develop. Otherwise, you are right. You don’t need ultra high-end brushes. Just one or two solid kolinksy sable ones of appropriate size.
I TOTALLY agree with the decent lamps. I have 2 swing arm lamps clamped to my desk that I angle to the middle so that I don’t have shadows. Here are some like I use.

I use a swing-arm clamp lamp (The kind with a long reach) and a floor standing lamp. I use GE Reveal bulbs, 75W in the swing arm lamp and a 50/100/150 3-way in the floor lamp. I like being able to adjust the ambient light to similar levels regardless of the day/night/weather factor

Dude, here’s the lamp that I got. I was worried about the quality and strength of the knobs used to tighten the lamp at the angles I use it.. But it is fine and looks great.
Thank you! Hope it inspired you in some way.

I found it on amazon. It’s a screw tight base, so it fits on the little stand perfectly!

Hm that doesn’t sound right, 10W is very low. You can’t get lamps like this or cords like this? Or clamp shades?
·
You bet! Here’s an eBay link to the ones I use. You can find them at antique malls/flea markets for $5-20, so disregard the inflated price.

Get the style that clamps on to your workbench, as they take up much less room than the style with a base. Here is a modern brand from Amazon:

Additionally, because the lamp has a peg on the base (to go into the c-clamp), you can also drill a 3/8″ hole into your workbench and drop it in directly on your workbench. It’s nice so you don’t have to use the edge of your workbench, it can go anywhere on your bench.

Its actually a super cheap one off Amazon!

$17 Just insert a daylight bulb and you’re good to go. You can get two to shine from different angles to eliminate shadows, but I’m happy with one for now.
·
Nah they sell those lamps just like that.

Chairs are super tricky, I would recommend trying them out before buying. The next chair I get will probably be an ergohuman style chair. ( Something with an aggressive lumbar and a headrest which is lacking in most chairs )
Any normal looking chair with robust padding is probably a ‘safe’ choice though. Just stay away from barely padded fake leather chairs. Padding is really the most important factor if you’re going in blind.
I have a cheap swing-arm lamp – $20 – with a – $4 – clamp-on mechanism for my desk. That and a bright white, high lumen bulb will work very well for $30~. A friend has a more robust version, which is basically a giant hinged arm with built-in, color-changing LED bulbs. That’s much more impressive but is > $100.

A single combination of that did wonders for my lighting, especially if you had a lot of background light. Adding a second (one per side of my face) did even more to light up my face. You can potentially omit the soft box and just place a sheet of white cloth over the light and it should be fine.

I started with these: https://www.amazon.com/Globe-Electric-Multi-Joint-Finish-56963/dp/B00HX2EVPS/ 2 from left and right. They can be angled to point downward too, if your project is on your desk.
This fits on the lamp to diffuse the light: https://www.amazon.com/Neewer-Professional-Off-Camera-Photography-Panasonic/dp/B00KT5ETNA/
It gave a good amount of lighting for my face, and because you can angle them, you can use it as a proper desk lamp too. I used the concepts of 3-point lighting, but didn’t use a third light (overhead).
Currently using a much fancier setup with green screen (the chromakey works even without the overhead light, though not optimal, I have to tweak settings occasionally to get it right).

I think every shop needs a lamp like this with the brightest LED you can get. LEDs are great, all I ever use anymore.
·
I would recommend 2 of these:

Set one up on each side so the light comes from above your shoulders.
