I’ve had pretty good luck with the Scarelett 6i6 having really fluid volume control (for the price). It’s got loads of inputs, and while larger and not marketed as a DAC/Pre Amp, it does a nice job. I’ve heard bad things about bus power from their smaller models, but have been quite liking mine so far (I do use it with powered monitors though)
Hope this helps, your thread seemed lonely 🙁

If you want both a good interface and MIDI capabilities: http://www.amazon.com/Focusrite-Scarlett-6i6-Interface-Preamps/dp/B00CP4IIJY
But that’s probably more power than you’ll need and it’s a pretty hefty price. Shop around a bit, read reviews, etc. You’ll find what you need. I believe in you.

I’m relatively experienced as a live musician (bass/guitar/vox) and want to start setting up a budget home studio. I play in projects with 2 to 5 musicians. Write songs in the pop/rock genre, primarily feature virtual or real drum tracks/percussion instruments. As computers, I have a 2013 Windows PC, an (old) iMac, and a 2012 MBA. I have experience working on Cubase and Garage Band and intend to start with Logic/Ableton Live. I have a pair of Audio Technica ATH -M50x headphones. Budgetary limitations/availability (Mumbai, India) force me to limit by purchase to the following:
- Audio interface: after a lot of research, I want to have a minimum of 6 I/O. My intent is to be able to record up to 2 or 3 guitars + 2 or 3 vox OR a drum kit. I have narrowed it down to Focusrite Scarlett 6i6, Focusrite Scarlett 18i8, and Steinberg UR44.
- Condenser mic: Narrowed it down to Rode NT1A bundle and AKG C2000 B bundle*.
- Dynamic mic: SM58
- MIDI controller: Nektar LX49 (because of mapping features and budget)
Intend to buy Monitors
Primary question: Which is the best interface among 6i6, 18i8, and UR44?
Secondary question: Which is the best mic between NT1A and C2000 B.
*not a typo; the store that I’m intending to buy it from has a special offer for these
