My home office is my music room. I used to keep all my music stuff in the basement in my old house and I never practiced. Now that everything is on the same level as our bedrooms in our current house, I practice all the time.

I always practice in front of my computer. As much as I don’t want to stare at a computer when I come home from work (I’m a software engineer and use computers all day long), I’m in my office a lot, a computer is a useful tool for practicing, and having my guitar right there encourages me to practice more. Thus, I keep my main guitar on a stand right next to my desk where I can easily reach it without having to get up. I also have a music stand there as well. My desk is a motorized IKEA sit/stand desk so I can easily practice sitting down or standing up. All my other guitars are hanging on the wall in that same room; I hate keeping guitars in cases.

As for amps/effects, I’m currently going the software route and I’m content for now. I currently play through my PC but I’ve also used my iPad. I do sometimes wish I could just flick one switch on a physical amp and be ready to go but software works for me for now at least and it doesn’t take me long at all to get going. I seriously considered something like a Yamaha THR10 or Katana but I already have a good iPad and PC and use both all the time. Heck, lots of times I practice unplugged or just using my audio interface’s direct monitoring without any amp sims running.

For times when I want to practice in front of the TV or something, I use my iPad, an iRig HD 2, and Bias FX/Amp.

One thing I highly recommend if you’re going to continue practicing in front of a computer is to get an office chair with flip-up arm rests. I have this one and I really like it.

I’ve really liked the chair I got off Amazon.

It’s held up extremely well so far and is still comfortable after being in it for 12 hours. It also only took 10 min or so to set up out of the box, which was awesome!

The only thing I might suggest to add along with it would be a foot rest or something to keep ya the most comfortable while studying for long periods.

I’ve been using one of these for a couple years now. I liked it so much I bought one for a relative:

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KUPS4HG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

Currently going for around $125 but keep an eye out for Amazon Warehouse deals.

As others have suggested, it’s also worth looking at desks, monitor risers, etc. You don’t want to be hunkered down over your work space.
