…did you just screenshot a note and upload the pic? Respect for doing it the hard way.

As for your question – buy a Fiio bluetooth dac.

I have an iPhone XR, however this improved the listening experience on my DT 770’s (80 ohm) when using tidal. Don’t know about your dac, just thought i’d offer a suggestion.

Are you dunking them in boiling water and dropping them from a ten story building every day? You should not be having to replace them that often, and it’s most definitely user error in some part.

Perhaps this kind of product just isn’t the one for you. They make wireless headphone adapters; this one by Fiio comes to mind, but it’s obviously quite expensive, especially if you’re just powering old Apple earbuds. Or you could just invest in some wireless earbuds (obviously AirPods would be the go-to suggestion for Apple integration).

Either way, you should definitely do something other than continuing to buy these dongles, cause that’s a huge waste of money.

>Did they change some BT standards which makes it comparable to a premium wired headphone?

Yes, actually, that was how they got a year ahead of everyone else with the AirPods, and why they’re technically noncompliant–they were on the basis of Apple’s first-draft specification, which got pushback in the group and it received some changes.

>Does it matter now? No.

I agree you can’t buy a good bluetooth headset until the Airpods Max comes out, but until then, you can put AptX HD on any wired headphone you own.

48kHz and 576 kbps over Bluetooth to any headphone you already have, with a balanced output.

You can go with a BTR5 + an aptX supporting dongle or transmitter to go full wireless aptX.

Don’t know if a short balanced cable for the HD 800S exists though. Probably will require a bit of soldering if you don’t want to spend $300 on a custom cable.

Assuming you’ll only be plugging in your headphones and no speakers…

If you can stretch it, and plan on being one-and-done with it, I’d go with something that doubles as a bluetooth DAC/amp for mobile usage. Something along the lines of the $150 Fiio BTR5 or the $170 Qudelix 5k (it’s IMO significantly better, but not as pretty if that matters to you).

If you want to just stick it to your desktop, or plan on also plugging in speakers, the $100 Fiio e10k is a great budget option. You really don’t need to spend more than that unless you’re looking to drive really high impedance headphones.

For reference, I currently use the Topping DX3 Pro+ for desktop and Qudelix 5k for mobile after having used the e10k exclusively for years. Yes, I can hear a slight improvement from the e10k if I’m directly comparing, but I’d say it’s not worth the price for the sound improvements alone. The product features make it worth it for me.

Well see, that’s the thing. I don’t really know which I would rather recommend to you, lol. I would just check out some comparison videos on youtube if I were you and get a feel for some of the differences that they’ll have and then make your choice. If you really want a good EQ to play with then I will recommend you the qudelix 5k. I will just link them both though, for your convenience.

Grab a Fiio BTR5 (https://www.amazon.com/FiiO-BTR5-384K-Bluetooth5-0-Headphone-Unbalanced/dp/B07ZK3M6XK)

Great little headphone amp and DAC that works via USB or Bluetooth. Battery lasts for up to 9 hours, so it would get through the workday.

Supports LDAC which allows you to get near lossless transmission.

  • A general, overall upgrade to my Audiotechnica ATH-M50X.
  • With streaming services offering higher quality audio, headphones that can make good use of the higher quality would be nice.

Do you think the below items would be acceptable and satisfy my requirements above?

TWS – True Wireless Stereo (One of the names given to wireless ear buds).

BTR5– A Bluetooth receiver made by Fiio that has both a 3.5mm single ended output and a 2.5mm balanced output.

IEMs – In Ear Monitors – Earbuds, but with actual quality in build and sound (YMMV on sound since it’s subjective and you can also get some for real cheap nowadays from the chi-fi [Chinese Fidelity] market. Chi-Fi isnt necessarily bad, they are just able to also make stuff very cheaply and mass produce it even if its a clone).

LDAC – “a proprietary audio coding technology (encoder is open under Apache 2.0 license) developed by Sony, which allows streaming high-resolution audio over Bluetooth connections at up to 990 kbps at 24 bit/96 kHz.” — I pulled the definition from wikipedia. It also apparently pulled the links with it too. But the linked Acronyms are links I provided as examples of what they are to help with clarification.

I hope I didnt confuse you too much and this explanation above helps with understanding what I meant to say in my original comment. Kudos on the kinetic energy solution to your buds!!

The FiiO BTR5 popped up on Amazon for $110 but sold out quick. I saw it twice from different sellers. Keep checking and hopefully more will be available.

Massdrop is making Bluetooth headphone called the “panda” but they are still in the pre-order phase. There’s also the option to connect a normal pair of headphones in a fiio BTR5 ($110. I currently use the hd6xx with the fiio BTR3 ($53) as my Bluetooth setup.
