I’m in the market for a new espresso machine. I currently have an Espresso Works that’s about 4 years old. My wife has a hard time getting the portafilter to seal properly and we figure it’s time to upgrade.

We aren’t super into coffee, just like espresso in the morning. We don’t use the milk steamer at all.

What makes a machine good? I see prices ranging from $50 to $1,000+. What makes one machine cost 2x-3x more than another?

Are there any recommended brands or ones I should stay away from?

Should also note I have super hard water and have to descale my machine every few months.
