The GK61X makes for a good starting point for someone on a budget. They make use of 3-pin or 5-pin mechanical switches and are hotswap so no soldering is needed. The GK61X has the option to use it wireless with bluetooth and has a battery inside the case. You’ll need the keyboard, a set of 65-70 switches (a few extras just in case) and a cherry stem compatible key cap set. Epomaker is a good reseller for these types of barebones kits and also offer complete builds, Epomaker GX61X, for those that aren’t quite sure if they want to dive into the whole build process just yet. Another great option is the Mizar MZ60 Luna which is also hotswap but a little cheaper since it is wired only.
Hope this little bit helps.

40% vs a split board seems like wildly different ergonomics. I suggest you find a way to test out one or both before committing to any imports with minimal returns policy.
A couple of cheap programmable mechanicals could maybe proxy as a split setup if you have the desk space to be taken up with some unused portions.
Epomaker seem to have some in stock for UK delivery this week, with split spacebars, for £62, £63 or £68 with some ortholinearity.
You can also use any programmable board to get familiar with a 40% set of keys and several layers.

Yea, I did watch some videos before pulling the switches myself and it looked like there shouldn’t be a lot of resistance, so I was a bit surprised as to why I wasn’t able to get the switches out smoothly when I tried. The board I bought doesn’t have many reviews on Amazon, so that may be why it was hard to search.
This the keyboard from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/EPOMAKER-Swappable-Mechanical-Keyboard-Programmable/dp/B08BY9693M/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3VQHBLISDBJSU&dchild=1&keywords=epomaker%2Bgk61x&qid=1607315980&sprefix=epomaker%2Bgk61%2Caps%2C225&sr=8-1&th=1

I think the GK61x/GK61xs is a better option since it’s 5 pin whereas the Kemove is 3 pin. They’re like pretty much the same board though.

So this version would be a better idea?
