I recommend against any Bluetooth connected speakers if you ever intend to use whole-home audio with multiple dots. Bluetooth ceases to work when they’re playing as a group.
Also, most popular Bluetooth speakers are meh. All my dots (3) use external speakers connected via the 3.5mm jack.
Any speaker designed as a single, plastic unit, can’t match proper dual wooden speaker setup. Just looking on Amazon,
https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1700BT-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016PATXSI/
These down to 60hz and are less than the Sonos Play 1 (which only goes down to 88hz).
Generally. The larger the (full range)speaker, the fuller the actual range will be. The lower you can go, the more bass you get out of it. For example, my sub goes down to about 40hz. Most speakers won’t have problems with the mids and highs.
·
They’re not on sale anymore. Here’s a link on amazon for $150: https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1700BT-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016PATXSI/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1513220249&sr=1-2&keywords=edifier+r1700bt
By no means are they the be all end all. The bass is a bit boomie, but I got them for only $130, you ain’t going to get everything at that price. What that means is it doesn’t take much to sound better than a single small speaker like the sonos play: 1. If someone were to go the powered pair of speakers route check out mackie, swan, kanto, audioengine, micca, and edifier. Many of these have the added bonus of having bt.
·
lol, i didnt mean to be a prick, sorry mate
im in nz, so i dunno about prices where you are, but i use edifier r700bt’s, and there are plenty of other good bookshelf type speakers that work extremely well as desktop speakers out there, depending on your price range
/r/budgetaudiophile could probably give you some good recommendations in your price range
having a decent set of speakers is worth it, just like having a proper headphone/mic or headset is worth it, the “gaming” stuff is just overpriced and often poor quality in my experience
·
Thanks mate! I am rocking the Edifier 1700BT
got the mug from a local comic book shop, only one in stock
·
You might want to look at Edifier R1700BT powered speakers with Bluetooth. I just got a pair of their R1850DBs for use at the office, and I’m pretty pleased with them. Their clarity and imaging is decent. The sound won’t knock your socks off or anything, but they’re really good for what they are.
·
>I’m also looking to upgrade my speaker situation!
I use a set of Edifier 1700BTs and I love them! They sound great, they look great, they’re not too bad on the wallet, and they have a Bluetooth input in case you want to use that
·
Nice turntable, just bought one myself! All you should need is a preamp and Powered speakers for your setup to work. They are a bit pricey for your range, but I know people who have had great experiences with the Edifier R1700BT’s. They are expensive, but it may allow you to pull a bit more out of that great table than a cheaper pair. If you are interested in a similar sound at lower cost, I would check out the Amazon recommendations. Not too sure about good preamps in that range though

·
I have no clue why you’ve only gotten garbage recommendations. Sorry about that.
You don’t want the Logitechs. They’re the worst of the worst. Stay far away from them.
The Edifiers and Miccas you listed would both be fine. Honestly just pick the one that looks better. Since your budget is up to $150, you could even upgrade to these Edifiers.
·
Hi all, got a question about speakers and record player set-up in general. I would like to set up an old record player (Fisher MT-6420), and I was able to get a receiver with phono preamp from my uncle (ONKYO Quartz Synthesized Tuner Amplifier RI – not sure if specs matter, but putting them here just in case). Last thing I would need is a set of speakers, most seem to recommend the Edifier R1280T as a good starter set. However I would like my speakers to have Bluetooth as well, so I was considering getting instead the Edifier R1700BT which are $50 more and have Bluetooth capabilities.
My question is, is this still a good set up (Fisher + ONKYO + Edifier 1700BT)? I cannot seem to find on the amazon web page if these have passive capabilities. If not, any recs on other speakers that double as passive speakers but also have Bluetooth capabilities?
Thanks!
·
The WIFI might be a stretch, but why limit yourself to whatever they happen to implement? I’d remove that from your criteria and stick with Bluetooth. That way you’re open to whatever app/streaming service you have available from your phone or other bluetooth capable device.
I have a set of these and they sound really good. We use them in our dining room during game nights.

Edifier makes several different models, some cheaper, some more expensive. Mine are probably somewhere in the middle.

I bought these two months ago and I couldn’t be happier with them. I know it’s a little out of the price range you have listed but you’ll be happy with the extra money spent.
·
I have the Edifier 1700BT and they’re dope. I mean really they’re awesome. You won’t need an amp either as these are active. They’re $150 brand new on amazon. I got mine from Facebook marketplace for $100. Also, they’re Bluetooth, so you can connect your phone to them without a receiver. All around, I would buy them again.

·
What you want doesn’t exist. I’d just get the Edifier R1700BT and call it a day. You don’t have a “puck” to control the volume, and you don’t have a headphone output, but you won’t get either of those with a pair of powered speakers.
·
Depends what you want. Studio monitors tend to be flat and analytical. Speakers made for music and media tend to be tuned to be more “fun”.
I recommend going somewhere you can listen to a bunch of different speakers to find out what you like.
Personally I went for these with an active sub. So far no regrets.
·
Any opinions on the Edifier R1700BT? I’ve only used headphones before and I’m looking to expand to some < $200 BlueTooth speakers to give me similar performance (I have m40X’s).
·
You describe DIY, but needing to connect speaker wires isn’t really DIY. I think you’re describing buying speakers, and a separate amplifier. You would connect the amplifier to your PC, and the speakers to the amplifier. It’s a really, really simple process.
However, if you really aren’t wanting that route, a pair of powered speakers simplifies things. Powered speakers connect to your PC and have the amplifier built in. You would still run a wire between the 2 speakers, but this wire will be included. You then just need to connect those speakers to your PC, super simple.
These Edifer Speakers would be good for you, and are right on budget.
·
Aha! This is it. Thanks for finding the multi ch stereo option. I think this is the best solution as well.
One follow up question: would it be possible to use these active speakers as the second pair?
Edifier R1700BT Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers – Active Near-Field Studio Monitors – Powered Speakers 2.0 Setup Wooden Enclosure – 66w RMS https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016PATXSI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_BJnJDbFDDZ7RN
Will I be able to convert the RCA input on the speaker to copper cable using an Adaptor and plug them straight into the amps surround channels?
·
Are you going to want tone control? Bass and treble adjustment? A remote? Bluetooth? More than one input? The Edifier R1700BT get good reviews, have these features, and seem inline with what you are looking for. $149.
Edifier R1700BT Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers – Active Near-Field Studio Monitors – Powered Speakers 2.0 Setup Wooden Enclosure – 66w RMS https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016PATXSI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_abv-BbD5E9TJM
Upgrading to the R2000db would give you better sound but cost you $249. I’ve never hear these speakers but found myself down a similar path as you a few years back and this is where I ended up before I shifter my strategy altogether.
I’ll turn it over to anyone here who has actual experience with Edifier to chime in.
·
Alternatively pick up some decent Chromecast enabled speakers and use your current mini to play through them. Cheaper than Google Home and better sound too.

Here’s the pair of speakers I just picked up:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016PATXSI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
So far they sound good, only complaint is I have a triple monitor setup and my mid-tower on my desk, so I’ve had a hard time fitting them. May just have to put them on some stands.
·

Would these edifier speakers do my vinyl justice or is there no hope on a budget?
·
I have these for digital music and they sound very good. Haven’t listened to them with vinyl but it should be a very respectable start and its blu tooth

My TV is set to PCM. I can’t get any sound out of it. No fuzz. No nothing.
Edit: Any ideas? Or should I look into returning these speakers? Or the TV? I love the speakers. I have them for my computer and I love them so I bought a second pair for the tv. Had no idea that new TVs suddenly became a giant pain the ass when it comes to audio.
·
Hey, thanks so much… this look perfect. I’ve got a few more questions if you don’t mind. What does active mean? And also, how difficult would it be to add a subwoofer to this setup? Finally, do I need to get anything else to make these functional?
Thanks so much
·
Anybody have an opinion regarding the Edifier R1700BT’s? I’m looking to get speakers for my desktop for general use(gaming/music/etc) and these match my desk really well.
Am I over-spending or picking something vastly worse than another product around or less than the same price?
Also, would I NEED a DAC or AMP to run these, or is that just another luxury?
·
Okay after looking at the Mackie CR4s I’m thinking the Edifier R1700BT bookshelf speaker Would suit all my needs. I like the Design, they’re self-powered, and the bookshelf is superior to the single speaker design correct?
·
[$100-$200] I’m looking for some nice bookshelf speakers. I’ve been eyeing these ones from amazon, as they have pretty great reviews and the fact that they’re bluetooth(for using with Amazon Echo). Anyone have experience with these? Or recommendations on something better within my price range(bonus points for bluetooth compatibility)?
·
Hi guys, I am looking for some Studio Monitors around $150, First time getting one of those
I don’t usually ask for help but recently the speakers of my TV died (I’ve been using it since 2009) and I am looking for some Studio Monitors around $150 because I only can afford that at the moment.
I have these in mind because I read some great reviews about them and I like the Bluetooth option but I am open to others too.
Some notes is that I have connected the TV to my PC and the new monitors will goo to the PC for music and play the guitar.
I appreciate the help you offer to other people who are not audiophile enthusiastic, I am one of them.
Also I mostly listen to Classic Rock and I am willing to buy used.
·
I’ve settled to buy computer speakers for 100 – 200 range.
Here are the ones I’ve currently picked out.
Can anyone recommend anything better than these for this price? The reviews here are quite good and making me at ease about these. They have bluetooth as well as a wired option
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016PATXSI/ref=psdc_3236451011_t1_B008M13H4A
But if there is a more prominent company/sound out there I’d be willing to go for those.
·
Near field. Interesting stuff, thank you.
Given that, these seem ideal. Built-in amplifier, Bluetooth connectivity, remote control, even physical knobs on the speaker if I wanted to use them.
·
Thanks for the reply.
I don’t have room for a sub in my room so I’m really just looking to change things up.
Would you recommend these at all since they have knobs for bass control?
·
Some time ago I put these on my wish list… I still think they look great but haven’t needed ’em till now because my Thunderbolt Display too can play music quite ok.
http://www.amazon.com/Edifier-Powered-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016PATXSI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1446986973&sr=8-1&keywords=R1700bt
Don’t know how they sound though
Edit: typos
·
·
Without an amplifier, you’re going to need active speakers. Something like this setup: https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1700BT-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016PATXSI. There’s also a PreSonus Eris set at 99 and a few other options if you dig around. If you’re willing to go up a few more bucks, you can get into some pretty nice studio monitors.
·
This is not the final recommendation, just a suggestion to see where your interest lies. How about this Edifier R1700BT? Just connect that CD player to it and you have a decent set of speakers that play CD and Bluetooth.
·
I’m rocking the speakers Edifier R1700BT with the DAC FX-Audio X6 Mini Hifi. Really good entry level setup, my only nitpick would be the speakers coming a little strong at the mid-high frequencies, but it can be fixed with any EQ (I use Peace with Configurator APO). The DAC is decent, but nowadays I want to get an interface like the Audient Evo 4.
My headset is an old Razer Kraken Pro Neon, been serving the last 5 years quite decently but I want to get into a more audiophile setup like the AKG K371 with a condenser mic like the AKG P220.
·
Have you considered speakers with integrated amps? I have these on my desk, they sound nice and their footprint is small.
·
Here ya go. Price won’t go live until 9:40EST tomorrow.
·
Get these: https://www.amazon.ca/Edifier-R1700BT-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016PATXSI/
They go on sale often and are actually good. There are also models without bluetooth.

depends how much you want to spend
personally i feel something like the edifier r1700bt is a good price/performance desktop speaker
if thats a bit more than you want to spend, the R1280T are also very good

·
If you’re looking for something to go on your desk… why not get a pair of desktop speakers? you have options from Edifier to JBL’s and such, much better for near-field styled stuff.
You could also invest into a desktop amp and swap out passive speakers as you please as well as any subwoofer and such.
Active setups:
$150 speakers Edifier 1700bt
$200 Edifier 1850Db
$120 sub Dayton 1000
$150 sub Dayton 12" audio sub
$200 sub BIC F12
Passive setup:
$140 Desktop amp
$160 Loxjie A30
Micca RB42
then pair with any of the subs above, there’s a few more passive speakers to look into out there like the Jamo s803’s and some JBL’s
·
If I already have these in hand, what would you recommend? It looks like these don’t have sub out.
·
Hi all,
My boyfriend has this turntable audio technica lp-120-usb and nothing else. He says you need to buy a bunch of stuff to go between the turntable and the speakers, but internet makes me believe this turntable has a built in pre amp and can be plugged directly into powered speakers. And these Edifiers seem to have decent reviews. I think I need a cable tho, to connect phono to RCA? And I’m having trouble figuring out the cable.
Any speaker recommendations or cable help would be appreciated. I don’t want to ask him, Christmas surprise.
·
You’ve got two options. Powered speakers or passive speakers. Passive speakers need an external amp.
I usually prefer passive speakers because you’ve got a lot more flexibility, and it makes future upgrades possible.
The powered option at $150 would be Edifier R1700BT.
The passive option would be a pair of Micca MB42X as well as an SMSL SA36. You could also go with the Edifier P17
I haven’t heard those powered Edifiers but the ones that I have heard all sound the same. They’ve got good bass and good mids, and the top end is rolled off just a bit to make them more comfortable to listen to for long periods of time. The Miccas are a bit on the other end. The top end isn’t rolled off so you get all the detail, and the bass is good, but the midrange is a bit scooped out.
I like the Edifiers and Miccas that I have for different reasons.
·
If you are thinking about the audio engine, may i suggest thoses:

I own a pair and they are incredible, cheaper, and also Bluetooth.
If you dont want powered speakers and use a dac, you could go with a pair of Miccas.

Many thanks friend, take my upvote!
Yea i was trying to decide between an active Edifier R1700BT or passive Micca MB42X and was thought if i go with a passive and get a good dac/amp i could use it for headphone as well.
So its good to know!
And thanks for the tidbit about the fit on the desk, thats my other fear. Will i have space for my tower, 2 27″ monitors and bookshelf speakers on a 74″ desk

Recently I bought Logitech Z623 SPEAKER from their website and Edifier R1700BT Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers from Amazon. For my setup, I will put the speakers on my table and right beside my two monitors. I will mainly use it for online videos, music, and gaming. Which speaker should i keep?

What are the audio differences between a 2 vs 2.1 system?
So aside from the subwoofer which is the most obvious difference (as well as speaker shape), are there things to note when it comes to how it affects audio quality? For example, both Edifier 1700 and Klipsch promedia are $150.

Honestly though, the best bang for your buck would be to get some used JBL LSR305’s or KRK Rokit 5’s for $200. You can find both of those on Guitar Center’s website frequently at that price. That price is per pair, not each. You may even be able to find them locally for that price.

Infinity R152 or Edifier R1700BT, given they are in the same price range at the moment? I will mostly be using them on my computer, television, and record playing.

Anyone using their speaker setup for both records and streaming audio?
For context: My record player (AT LP-120) is currently hooked up to a pair of bluetooth enabled computer speakers (Creative T12). The pro is that this means I can use the speakers to listen to records or stream audio from google play music. The speakers are adequate, but I’d like something better sounding that I could set on speaker stands or ideally mount on the wall. I don’t have a ton of surface space and would like a powered speaker option that doesn’t require a receiver.
I haven’t settled on a budget yet – ideally less than $300 CAD, but I would consider spending more for something that sounds good and meets my needs. I think the optimal speaker placement in the space is mounted to the wall, in which case a remote for volume would be convenient.
It looks like the options for BT enabled speakers are:
I like the look of the Kantos vs Edifier, but they are a little more than I wanted to spend. I don’t think either is available in a store near me to hear before purchase. My husband would prefer a more well-known brand (Klipsch, Polk), but they don’t tend to have a BT/remote option. I think a set of regular powered speakers with a chromecast audio(switched to manually) for streaming may also work.
Anyone have experience w/the speakers above? Any other setup ideas that would allow me to use the same set of speakers for records and streaming w/relative ease?
·
Thanks.
Only issue I foresee is that I mostly play from iTunes on my (Dell XPS) laptop. I’m unsure how fluid that is with Chromecast audio.
How about Edifier R1700BT?

Sounds like a white van special…. I would pass

Agreed, I picked these a few months back and the sounds is unbelievable.

I have an Audio Technica LP-120 TT. This one. I haven’t touched it in a while because I was away at university.
I got some new speakers for Christmas. I hooked everything up and found that the right speaker plays fine, but the left speaker just emits a humming/buzzing noise. I know my speakers work fine because I switched the inputs and the problem switched speakers.
Switching the TT from Line to Phono cuts all audio completely.
With my old speakers I had to use this Amp, but my new speakers won’t connect to it, and I found that I can just connect my TT directly to my speakers anyway.
I re-weighted the tone arm (I found some people saying sometimes thats an issue), and reseated all the connections that I could find.
From what I can tell, at this point the issue is either the cartridge or something internal. I don’t want to replace the cartridge if I don’t have to, and I’d rather not mess around with the internals.
So, before I buy a new part or pay someone to take a look at it, is there anything that I might be missing?

I AM SO HAPPY FOR MY FIRST VINYL COLLECTION TO START 😀 😀 😀
I just have one question. Is this setup good for a first timer?

Not sure if you have committed yourself yet, but here is another Computer Speaker with BOTH Bluetooth and a Remote Control, and it is a modest $150/pr.
Edifier B1700BT – $150/pr –

I would not say they are to the same standard as the Mackie, but Edifier is generally well regarded.
As to some of your questions –
> In my place, the Yamaha AVR you posted is double the price.
Not sure what you mean by this. I posted no direct reference to specific AVR’s. I posted a link to a Stereo Receiver. And NO the Cambridge Speaker will not work without an Amp.
RE: Mackies –
If you saw the video review or looked at other reviews, for the money, the Mackie is pretty well regarded … as a Computer Speaker.
But if you want to save some money, the 4″ Edifier is probably OK too.

Myself, assuming I had the money, I would choose the Mackie, but if money was tight, the Edifier would be worth considering.
However, and this is just me, my first choice is always for a full stereo system – Amp+Speakers.

Yes, there are better choices in general, but you have to define your parameters more precisely. Why Battery Powered? What are your size limitations?
In my opinion, any of the speakers similar to the Charge are crap speakers, but lacking context and intended use, I can only make that as a general statement.
If you actually want good speakers consider these –

Mackie CR5BT – $220/pr –

Here are some smaller speakers that might solve your problem, though you would still need the FIIO DAC, which you seem to have purchased already.

These 4″ speakers have a REMOTE CONTROL, Bluetooth, and easily accessible manual controls.
For you, the real bonus is the low price and the Remote Control.
The Bluetooth aspect is simply an additional feature that would make it easier to listen to music. You can broadcast music from a Smart Device like a Phone, Pad/Tablet, or Bluetooth Enabled Computer.
Edifier is a generally well regarded brand but I have no direct experience with the speakers.
If you are considering a Sound Bar, while they can rise to relatively expensive pricing, I would suggest you not go too cheap. And by that I mean nothing under $100. Though certainly that is your choice to make. The drivers in Sound Bars tend to be very small and limited, and typically can not work without a Subwoofer.
The Mackie and now the Edifier, are not going to have thunderous bass, but it seems your listening is somewhat casual, and for that they should be fine.
There seem to be several YouTube videos on the Edifier R1700BT, so you can get some opinions, hear them, and get some sense of the size. The Edifier are also pretty nice looking speakers.
These are just the first video I stumbled across. Perhaps not the best, but enough to give you some sense.

Yes I work for HiViSpeakers, also know as Swan Speakers.
For example, their R1700B is “inspired” by our M200 series, which we’ve been making for over 10 years

I know most 2.1 systems in that price range are shit, but the m10’s are known to be pretty good.

I hate recommending a competitor, but we’re out of stock on our own bluetooth bookshelves.
This are better than the Klispsh. Haven’t heard the Saxx’s yet.

I have it narrowed down to the Micca PB42x’s and these

Does anyone have any experience with either? I like the idea of having Bluetooth for my girlfriend to use on occasion.

·
easiest is powered speakers IMO.
https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1700BT-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016PATXSI/ $150
takes two analog sources, and bluetooth. has remote.
you only need the set of speakers and an AV cable and you’re done.

First real turntable upgrade after disowning my Crosley all-in-one shredder and it’ll be good to start giving my collection the love it deserves. I also upgraded my computer desktop speakers to these guys which should be arriving today as well. Today was a good day.
