So the Drevo Gramr 84 Brown Switch Black Keyboard went out of stock when I wanted to order from Amazon…shame. (White is in stock, but White Keyboard + White Backlighting = bleh look).

However, I also found the Drevo Tyrfing, which on paper seems to be a TKL (normal TKL style) version of the more commonly discussed/recommended Drevo Gramr 84. As in, the Tyrfing seems to be the Gramr 84 except in a normal TKL layout as opposed to the condensed 75% TKL layout. Price is the exact same ($40) as the Gramr.

It seems as though the Tyrfing was released recently, since it doesn’t have a lot of reviews yet, and the reviews are all from within the past week or so…

I read a user review of the Tyrfing, which says that the Keyboard uses Outemu Switches (same as Gramr). The one thing I don’t like about the Tyrfing is that it’s Floating-Key, which makes me a little nervous because I feel like the Keycaps could potentially get damaged/snap off if I put it in my backpack or suitcase for travel, while the Gramr doesn’t seem to be Floating-Key, and has some “protection” along the sides so the keycaps won’t get as easily damaged or snap off.

Portability is something I would like to have, as I will be going outside and working on my laptop, and I would like to use a Mech Keyboard when doing so since my laptop keyboard is not the best for typing.

Anyway–could someone help me analyze the Tyrfing based on the two points I mentioned? I assume that the keyboards are basically functionally the same except for the two points in terms of Floating-Key and Size.

So basically, in terms of portability: The Tyrfing is obviously bigger than the Gramr; I think the official measurements have the length of the Keyboard being ~35mm longer, and the height/depth being roughly the same (couple mm difference). How much would the size difference affect portability in a normal-sized backpack or suitcase). In terms of Floating-Key keyboard: Are my concerns about potentially damaging the keycaps legitimate for the Tyrfing (Floating-Key) compared to the Gramr (Non-Floating Key)?

(Basically trying to judge if I should wait for the Gramr Black Keyboard Brown Switch to come back into Stock, or if I should actually buy a Tyrfing instead, if there are no other major differences besides layout, which I am mostly indifferent to between the two).

Or, if anyone has any other Brown Switch 75%/TKL Keyboards (no 60%; prefer to avoid full-size if possible) with some sort of backlighting that I can buy on Amazon at around the price range given (~$40-50), please let me know! The only good one that I could find would be the Drevo Gramr, and now, the Drevo Tyrfing.

Hey guys,
I’m fairly new to mechs, but from the ones I tried out, I really like Cherry MX Browns (Reds and Blacks aren’t my thing and I haven’t tried Blues, but those are probably out of the question as I live in a dorm). I’ve been looking to buy a board with the following requirements:

  • I don’t really want to spend more than 70€ (I’m a broke student), shipping included
  • I want it to be tenkeyless (meaning no Magicforce, even though it looks quite good)
  • It has to be available in Europe (I specifically live in Slovakia, but Germany would do as I do have methods to get a parcel to here from there)
  • ANSI layout is a plus, as it’s easier to get keycaps imo, as well as a backlight, preferably white or RGB.

I’ve been looking at the Drevo Tyrfing (or maybe even Gramr) with Outemu Browns, but from what I’ve seen on this sub, some people say the switches are okay and some think they’re really bad. Is it a good choice for the price? Or is there a better option?

edit: linked keebs to US Amazon
