You’re going to want not the loudest headphones, but the headphones with the best sound isolation. If it’s too loud, don’t find a way to keep turning things up, find a way to turn things down.
- Do you have monitors you can turn down?
- If not, do you have speakers near you that you could rotate outward more?
- Find isolating headphones – like these Direct Sound Extreme Isolation EX-29s – that are designed for VERY loud environments
- Consider trying in-ear monitors – although you will have to learn how to cue and mix in your headphones for the best results
Whatever you do, don’t keep exposing yourself to this level of noise – earplugs under your headphones are good sign that you’re well on your way to getting the one thing that every DJ dreads – tinnitus.
