Not the same issue as you, but I have had lower back issues, which required me to see a PT for a while, and the biggest thing they stressed was core muscle exercises. Obviously, in your case, you have to avoid specific exercises, which can exacerbate your back problem. My suggestion is before you do any exercising, talk to your PT about recommended exercises and routines to help you get your core strength balanced with your back, and take it from there.

Also, my PT recommended this book, specifically because it not only talks about various core muscle exercises, shows you proper form and explains why they’re beneficial, but it’s also partly an anatomy book, to help you learn about the muscle groups associated with the core, and how these exercises help them.
