I just bought a system for way more, but is all from dali and im realy happy with them. There cheapest model is http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dali-Zensor-Speakers-Pair-Black/dp/B0057X5KF0. But tbh with “only” that much money i would look for a used setup, just listen to it before and all that.

Hi! I’m currently looking at buying my first HiFi set and having no real knowledge on the subject come seeking advice. My budget is around £3/400 and will be using the kit to game, watch films and listen to music. I guess my main priority for the system is to listen to music (beatles>beethoven). I’m no audiophile so quality doesn’t have to be perfect

I’m going to be running all sound from my computer. I’ve been advised to get Dali ZENSOR 1 speakers (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dali-Zensor-Speakers-Pair-Black/dp/B0057X5KF0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1476031355&sr=8-1&keywords=dali+Zensor+1) and a Cambridge Audit AM10 (http://www.richersounds.com/product/amplifiers-receivers/cambridge-audio/topaz-am10/camb-am10-blk) So I guess my first question is does this look appropriate? I don’t intend to get a subwoofer however may change my mind in the future, similarly I don’t currently have a DVD/Vinyl input however this may change.

Secondly, I’ve currenty in the process of upgrading my PC, with an intention to buy a new motherboard, specifically the ASUS Z170I (https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-Z170I-Pro-Gaming-Motherboard/dp/B015FY4HLS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1472229872&sr=8-1&keywords=ASUS+Z170I+Pro+Gaming) which is advertised as having “High quality gaming audio – reinvented SupremeFX 2015 with intuitive Sonic Studio II”. Will this be sufficient for my purpose? Or would I need to purchase a sound card? Rather than a soundcard I’ve been advised to get a usbDAC, would this help towards higher quality sound?

All help appreciated, cheers.

Yes, stereo receiver with AirPlay: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-f95P3oVdR78/p_022RN301/Yamaha-R-N301.html

*If you preorder this, http://www.crutchfield.com/p_580TX8160/Onkyo-TX-8160.html you won’t need a pre amp/phono stage with your turntable, leaving you $200 for the table

Speakers: http://www.amazon.com/DALI-ZENSOR-Bookshelf-Speaker-Black/dp/B0057X5KF0 (other finishes available on Amazon)

That leaves $300 for your turntable, someone else will have to help you in that regard.
