First off, welcome to the hobby!

The vast majority of cases you’ll find on amazon are bootlegs. amazon.jp apparently ships the DHR 6000 internationally now, but other than that most of the actual pillows on amazon are gonna be pretty low quality too. Really, recommending just about anything on amazon besides the DHR is against the rules of the board because just about all of it is bootlegs…

I will say from the experience of only getting started on this hobby a few months ago myself that bootlegs are not worth the money you save. Peachskin sucks as a daki cover material and the low quality pillows bootleggers sell are not only stuffed with VERY low quality plush, but the shells are pretty crappy too. They’re either made of a crappy material or they’ll start to come apart within a few months of regular use. The high entrance fee of getting a legit pillow and a legit cover may seem like a lot, but trust me when I say its worth it in the long run.

Amazon Japan ships it internationally now, just order there. Total price comes out to $162.53 shipped to the US. You can save a TINY bit of money by ordering from Amazon Japan and having it shipped to a forwarder like BigInJapan and choosing as economical a shipping method as possible, but you’ll save like $15 and get your pillow in a month rather than 2 days.

What is the easiest way to get a DHR6000 shipped to America? I’ve looked into proxies but honestly I don’t feel like going through the hassle of providing identification and all that. I checked Amazon.jp and it’s weird because people here say that they offer international shipping on the DHR6000. But when I check it says it cannot be shipped to America. I’d rather just buy it from amazon america here:
https://www.amazon.com/Dakimakura-body-pillow-original-DHR6000/dp/B00CFG0B3I. It is more expensive but really I think it’s not that much more compared to the shipping from japan. Is this amazon listing legit? If so I think I will just shell out the extra to get it from amazon and avoid the effort of going through a proxy.

EDIT: Thanks for all the answers guys.

They’re sold through Amazon US now. No need for the proxy service.

As the others said, worth the price. The cheaper ones off ebay will get shitty after a while (usually it’s the filler bunching or twisting weirdly and whatnot).

Amazon Japan to a forwarder, then shipping with FedEx which comes out to about 4,000 to 5,000 JPY shipping. Total would be roughly ~$120 give or take a bit.

are you looking in physical shops or online? i can totally understand shops with limited physical inventory space not keen on stocking too many of these so maybe you had some bad luck and happened to swing by after what they had on hand were sold?

https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B00CFG0B3I/ amazon still has it in stock

not sure if any store stocks it. these things take up a lot of space reserved for higher earning items that take up less space. your best bet is to buy it on amazon and send it to your hotel or local convenience store. might have to shell out for prime or pay for quick shipping, depending on your schedule.

The best place to find the DHR pillows is amazon jp. You’ll need a proxy to order it. Unfortunately, I don’t know any respectable alternatives for Europe. Any chance anyone else can add anything?

Edit : ok nvm I’m stupid xd

The pillow’s sold out tho. Anyone out there knows how the proxy deals with that ? Does it order as soon as it’s back or just reject everything and you have to wait till it’s back to get the proxy to buy it ?

From what I understood there’s another company than amazon which also sells that pillow so I guess it’s ok, just wanna be sure

I believe Buyee is pretty cheap if you get your DHR on amazon. I’m planning to get one myself and I’ll probably use Buyee since they’re absurdly cheap compared to other proxies I’ve found so far.

Is this the legendary DHR6000 I hear so much about or is this a knockoff? I’m still new to this so I’m not entirely sure.

I also hear that amazon jp ships internationally but I havent found anything to prove that.

Impossible to tell for sure. Whenever I order the DHR6000, I get it from Amazon JP officially and just use a forwarding service. Saves money, too, since businesses listing it on the other Amazon’s are usually marking it up a substantial amount (even including shipping).

I really hope you can help me out.
I’m finally able to buy my very first Dakimakura and I’m currently looking for a DHR6000 pillow. But before ordering one from Amazon Japan through a proxy I wanted to ask if I can just by this one from Amazon Germany.

It seems to be the Original DHR6000 and I saw some people ordering theirs from Amazon US as well. Most of the sellers also have a good rating overall so I’d much rather order through Amazon than through a proxy. Do you think it’s safe to order from Amazon Germany or is it possible that it could not be the original?

Sorry for the late response. I am a huge fan of the DHR6000 pillow from Amazon JP if you want a 160×50 cm pillow which fits the corresponding cover amazing showing off the artwork perfectly without the little flaps of left over fabric. If you get a 160x50cm cover get a 160x50cm body pillow. For some of the licensed Cospa covers they have 150×50 dimensions, so if you wanted to sleep on them you would probably wanna get a Cospa 150x50cm body pillow to match, but any body pillow would work.

When it comes to material for covers there is usually just one material. Covers that come in a variety of materials are usually bootlegs. There are rare instances where dakimakuras can be reprinted with different materials.

Daki inner finally arrived! Hello good sleep! Daki

Was wondering what should I keep in mind before I unpack it and allow to it puff up?

I’m thinking of putting it on my drying rack (about 60cm in length) or on bed.

While allowing it to puff, will cooking/eating cause it to absorb any smell from food?

What about having the AC run in the room while its puffing up?

I’m aware of the A & J one like this one on Amazon , would this be a good choice? I’m a side-sleeper and would like something comfy and supportive.

The DHR6000 is available and in stock on Amazon Japan no problem, I just got one for my friend less than a month ago. You need to use a forwarder like Tenso or BigInJapan though since Amazon JP doesn’t ship the DHR6000 internationally anymore.

And if you found something on eBay, I’m pretty sure there’s a 95-98% chance it’s sold by a bootlegger. There just are pretty much no legitimate eBay sellers in this hobby.

Yea, tenso.com is a proxy service. I made an account with them and they ask for identification. I just took a picture of my license and uploaded it to them. Then they provide you with an address to put into amazon.co.jp.

Edit: Here is the pillow on Amazon Japan. I think overseas shipping was about $30-$40.

Yeah, this subreddit is understandably in a non-stop war with ADP. They’re kind of a monolith and show up at the top for any searches related to dakimakuras. It’s enough to make anyone who’s not devoted into the scene believe they’re legit, which is how they capture so much absurd profit from poor, unsuspecting purchasers.

Oh well… it’s happened to pretty much all of us, so no hard feelings for being swayed by them. ^^

As for recommendations: the usually recommended options are A&J’s DHR6000, COMODO’s CMD9000, or [email protected]‘s Marshmallow Kai Ni. All of them, with shipping, will probably break that $110 budget, but not by much. And if you’re willing to spend $110, I’d recommend pushing your budget just a tiny bit to like $150 to get one of those authentic, Japanese produced inners. That way you know what your getting is high quality and will serve as a comfortable and trust companion for years to come (I’ve been using my DHR6000 for over 4 years now).

The problem with all of these options is ordering them. Unfortunately, Amazon JP won’t ship any of them directly to the US. So you need to use a forwarder or a proxy. The service I usually use is BigInJapan’s forwarding service for just a flat 500 JPY. Just follow the instructions on that page and you’ll buy the inner yourself on Amazon JP, shipping it to BiJ’s office, and then they’ll forward it to you (and optionally repack it in a better box for an additional 500 JPY). Buyee should also be a viable option, and they’ll buy the product on Amazon JP for you and, to my knowledge, they don’t charge a service fee for Amazon JP either. That means that all you need to pay is for shipping.

Shipping is where it gets a bit expensive. I think it’s going to be about $50-60 for shipping just the inner? So that would make it about $130-150 depending on where you go for ordering, which one you pick, etc.

There’s an enourmous amount of information on the different inners in this thread over here, including a somewhat recent controversy over the downgrading of the materials used in the DHR6000 which may or may not be “fixed” at this point.

Anyway, best of luck!

As said in the title, I want to thank this sub. A few weeks ago I was looking for these two specific daki covers of Miho from [email protected] and Shigure from Kancolle, but because they were done by some artists on Twitter (Shigure’s, Miho’s) and were limited (not too sure about the Shigure one) they couldn’t be bought anymore. I then searched for some decent looking bootlegs but couldn’t find any good enough. I was getting desperate but I found this sub reddit and found a few places where to get daki covers like on Yahoo Japan, being the place where I bought them. Then I found where to get actual good pillows and ended up buying the DHR 6000 on Amazon Japan (that was hella expensive to import here in Canada).

Ever since I’ve had my Miho daki, I found myself wasting all my time cuddling her while watching random stuff on Twitch. We could say it’s some well spent time with the waifu. Though I dunno if it’s better or not for my depression to be constantly spending my time with her.

At some point, I’ll probably buy a new pillow for Shigure. It’s tempting to get the DHR 7000, is it worth it?

TL;DR: Thanks to this sub, could find places to buy the covers and the pillow instead of going with bootlegs and a bad pillow, blah blah, wasting time doing nothing but cuddling the waifu.

Well the best is obviously the DHR6000, if you don’t care about price. You can buy it conveniently off of Amazon US for a bit of a premium (although you need to be cognizant of fakes, so be careful who you pick from) or inconveniently, but cheaper and safer, through Amazon JP using a forwarder like BigInJapan.

It’s not memory foams, but A&J’s DHR 6000 is considered the best inner pillow. The filling’s “high quality polyester silicon cotton”. Amazon JPN ships it internationally now. They say Gate also sells them but they seem to have stopped.

I guess if you really want you can custom order a 160×50 memory foam pillow. Seems like Foam source, Foam Order and some other sites do custom sizes. No idea about the cost, though.

It’d be better to buy the DHR 6000, really.

Hello all! First reddit post here~
I just had some question(s) regarding inner pillows:

I bought a couple of covers on Amiami and was planning on buying either the DHR6000 or CMD9000 on Amazon JP, but I completely overlooked the fact these items can’t be shipped to the U.S. I was looking at the alternatives of getting it through forwarding or proxy services, but I’d rather not have to go through all that extra hassle. ><
I did see that the DHR6000 and CMD9000 are on Amazon US as well. But from what I read on here, these are resellers and that they cost a bit more. If price weren’t a factor for me, would it be ok to buy the inner pillows from Amazon US resellers? I guess legitimacy is the main concern for me and more just making sure that I’m getting the right product.

Glad you’ve decided to order from us! ^^ We actually have an answer to your pillow question in our FAQ.

>I don’t have a body pillow for a dakimakura. Where can I get a body pillow that will work with your covers?

> The recommended pillow is the DHR6000 which can be found on Amazon Japan and Gate Japan. A cheaper alternative for U.S. customers is Royal Pillow. If you decide to import your pillow from outside your own country, we recommend spending a bit extra on the pillow as the shipping cost will inevitably be the largest part your total cost, regardless of the pillow’s overall quality. And if you take care of them they will last you for years, so might as well make the worthwhile investment upfront!

In other words, the DHR6000 can be bought on Amazon Japan, but it’s expensive (about $160). You can buy a much cheaper pillow from Royal Pillow in the US, but they won’t fill out the cover as well, nor are they nearly as nice. In my opinion if you’re going to be sleeping with your daki nightly, it’s better to make the large investment and be happy than make a much cheaper investment and need to replace it shortly thereafter when you decide it’s inadequate. I’ve had my DHR6000 for three years now, it’s worth the money.

But that decision is up to you. :3

The sidebar is probably the best place to look, since the main site I linked in my old thread isn’t really active anymore. Nijigenshingu on the sidebar is still my personal favorite active site, but not every site is going to catch every single release, so it’s good to look through a few. Pixiv/Twitter are great sources as well; just follow a bunch of hobby artists/companies/etc, and you’ll see stuff pop up regularly.

There is only one accepted option in this sub, honestly: Suck it up and buy a DHR6000. Total cost will run you about $160, and you can either pick it up from Amazon.jp using a proxy/forwarder, or buy it directly from Amazon with the shipping cost already factored into the inflated price. Yes, shipping is an absolute bitch (almost the cost of the pillow itself.) Yes, it’s absolutely worth it. You can look at previous question threads, and you’ll find at least one question each month asking about the best pillow, and the answer is always the same.

But I’ll directly respond to some of the questions/points you made.

For Royal Pillow, you’d have to call them up and do a custom order. Pillow will run you about $15-20 depending on the options chosen, but they don’t (or didn’t when I ordered) vacuum seal pillows and they shipped UPS, so shipping is expensive. Back when I ordered 3 pillows, shipping cost me about $70, which is around what it takes to ship a pillow from Japan (that will arrive sooner, most likely.) The actual quality of the pillows is pretty lackluster. I bought their base filling, and it was too puffy for me to initially lay on, and got beat down really quick, with no good middle ground. The gel was a little better, but also didn’t have any longevity and I also had an issue with feathers poking through the pillow and through my cover, damaging it.

Amazon pillows might be decent, but I don’t know. Most dakimakura covers are going to be 2WT, which is rather elastic, so it’s generally okay if the pillow is a little bigger, but if it’s smaller you’re going to have some irritating slack.

If you’re going to buy a Japanese pillow, don’t cheap out; shipping is going to be expensive no matter what, so you may as well opt for quality.

Air filled pillows are a cheap alternative, but I doubt they’re a good long term or comfortable choice.

Good day, I recently bought a daki cover 160x50cm for the first time, so now I was looking around for where to buy the inner pillow.
I live in the Philippines and it seems there isn’t a pillow here that fits to the size of the daki cover (biggest I’ve seen so far is a 57x 20” around 140 x 50 cm)

if I was going to buy something that needs to be shipped might as well go for the best quality since shipping would cost a lot. So looking around it seems most of the people are recommending the A&J DHR6000 one. I see it in Amazon.com for around $190 w/ free shipping. this one to be exact https://www.amazon.com/Dakimakura-body-pillow-original-DHR6000/dp/B00CFG0B3I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1533642860&sr=8-1&keywords=dakimakura+pillow+160×50

So I would like to ask about.. if I went off and use a fowarding/proxy site to buy the same item from japan would it cost cheaper or would still sum up to the same price?

I’m not really familiar with how amazon ships their products nor I know anything about proxy buying so I really don’t have much information on it.

Here is the listing for the DHR6000 on Amazon which you can use to obtain it through a proxy (recommended for you as someone who is inexperienced with purchasing items from Japan) or a forwarder. Here is the link to it on Gate as well, same process.

From my personal experience it is cheaper to go through a proxy than to purchase via your local Amazon for a DHR6000. The margins that they have on the pillows they sell are much larger than the cut a proxy takes.

As a side note, you might want to look into what offers your bank has in regards to making payments in foreign currencies. As your charges will be in Yen you will get charged a currency conversion fee that would probobly be in the range of 3% or so. Your bank may have offers in place for people looking to make purchases in foreign currencies which could save you a little extra money in fees.

Ok so I have bought a cover via ZenMarket, now I need to get the pillow I have several options:

 1. DHR 6000 from amazon JP https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/gp/product/B00CFG0B3I/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=AN1VRQENFRJN5&psc=1, currently what I think I’ll go with (156SGD with shipping total), but I wonder is it cheaper to also buy this pillow via ZenMarket and have them send both the cover and the pillow to me in one package?
 2. DHR 6500/7000 how good is the quality compared to 6000 and is the price hike really worth it?
 3. dakimakuri 4.4kg, for some reason this is more expensive than DHR7000 if shipping is counted, I guess this is a pass?

Would love to see what you guys prefer in this. I like firm pillow but I want to still be able to breathe when I faceplant to the pillow.

People here always get the DHR6000 recommended

Amazon JP or Gate It requires either a proxy or forwarding service to order.

For people in the US Royal Pillow is supossed to be a good cheaper alternative. If you live in a place that does not sell body pillows you may want to go for the DHR6000 as the shipping is a large part of the costs regardless of pillow quality.

Slolita is affiliated with bootleggers so they are not allowed to be posted here. The design you linked seems to be an original design they sell. Normally you have size and material options on Taobao but this listing does not seem to have it. If you scroll down judging from the images it should be 160 x 50 cm and might be an undressable cover. It seems to be a bit expensive for their usual price range to be a normal cover. A guide to buying from Taobao is linked to the right. You could attempt to contact them trough the Taobao chat thingy (And google translator)

For people in the US Royal Pillow is supossed to be a good cheaper alternative. If you live in a place that does not sell body pillows you may want to go for the DHR6000 as the shipping is a large part of the costs regardless of pillow quality.

Shipping is a large part of the cost regardless of pillow quality if done international. Because of that you might aswell spend some extra and get one of the best pillows you can get if you cannot purchase one locally.

The best pillow is the DHR-6000, and from what I understand amazon jp ships it internationally now. Some good sides for covers are Cuddly Octopus and BWStore, linked to the right. Evening Call is alright too, but from what I’ve heard they can be a massive pain to deal with. ACHobby is pretty highly regarded here too. For ordering from them internationally without a proxy (they’re based in Hong Kong), you have to contact the owner. Just search the thread for “alkie” if you’re interested, I’m pretty sure I’ve posted how to contact him a few times just this month.

So … Ill just recommend the DHR6000 again? : P Amazon supossedly does international shipping these days or you can get it on Gate with use of a proxy.

Regarding the stretching it should be fine. If you are still woried it has a zipper and just remove a little filling. It is recommended to just get a 160 cm pillow as you can remove filling to make it fit a 150 cm cover but not the other way around.

The agreed upon insert of choice is A&J’s DHR6000 (for a 160cm pillow) or the DHR6001 (for a 150cm pillow). You can buy it off of Amazon Japan, however they do not ship it internationally and you will need to use a forwarder such as Tenso or BigInJapan. All of these sites are in English, just follow the instructions for ordering to your desired forwarder and you should be golden. The final price will be about $150-160 if I recall correctly.

As for covers being shipped discreetly, I believe it is mandatory for Chinese shipments to be completely opaque and wrapped in some kind of extra layers. Therefore, I’ve never seen anything not shipped “discreetly” in the sense you can actually see what the merchandise is, however keep in mind they may declare on the customs form that it is a “Woman Pillow Case” or something like that. If you talk to the seller beforehand, they are often willing to change what the customs form says.

Gate Japan

You do need a proxy or forwarder. It should be around 165 USD all in all. Feel free to correct me if i am wrong.

Here is an Amazon JP link. People have been arguing if it ships international or not. You can try if they do i suppose.

Hey u/DakimakuraGuy I will remove this if it is a bootleg, but before I drop 200USD on a pillow wanted to know if these are real or bootleg A&J DHR6000 ‘s or not from amazon https://www.amazon.com/Dakimakura-body-pillow-original-DHR6000/dp/B00CFG0B3I/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 from the reviews they seem like they are satisfied, but that doesn’t tell me the authenticity. Since you are well versed in Daki’s I thought id ask. (amazon US link)

First time buyer here:

I never really got into Daki, but then a coworker bought me a bootleg one for Xmas and I want to replace it with a more sfw one. I’m convinced I’ll need a legit inner and cover so it won’t haunt me after I spent so much for something fake. I almost probably got ripped off regardless by buying from dakimakura.us during their new year sale, but did some research as I figured bootlegging could be an issue.

Is it currently safe to get a DHR6000 from US amazon like so?: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CFG0B3I/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?smid=A2DQM1XJZE28BS&psc=1

Also, I’m trying to find Makise Kurisu/Makise Kosaki from STEINS;GATE, I really like this cover in particular but it’s really hard for me to find; can somebody with more experience searching for covers help me with this?: http://omiai-dakimakura.com/steinsgate/28516

If not..

Should I bite the bullet and buy my first cover from Cuddly Octopus? ex: https://cuddlyoctopus.com/product/kurisu/?attribute_pa_variant=aa&attribute_pa_size=160cm (or just some other character these “non-bootleg” circles happen to have from an artist I like)

I’ve already spent 8 hours trying to research this on my own, so anybody with more experience helping me out would be greatly appreciated!

Got my first Dakimakura cover, and was checking the several sites and comments on what pillows to get. Since its my first, I’m not to sure which to buy and what is the best site to buy off from as well. I was thinking of the DHR6000 on amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Dakimakura-body-pillow-original-DHR6000/dp/B00CFG0B3I or https://dakimakuri.com/shop/item/inner

Any help would much appreciated

dakimakuri sells a good one according to reviews. this one will probably be the easiest (and cheapest?) to buy.

if you want made in japan and high quality, look at A&J’s DHR6000, A&J’s DHR7000, fules’ withAQUA, [email protected]‘s marshmallow (expert edition or mark 2). they should all be available on amazon jp.

I’m not confident it’s legit if you look at the sellers list. The top seller has few and low ratings, it’s not being sold officially/direct. If you’re set on the DHR6000, you can find it legit on Amazon JP and I’m pretty sure they will ship internationally at a bit of a cost.

Others might have a better source. However personally I’d just recommend the Dakimakuri Inner. General consensus puts it in-between the DHR6k and DHR7k.

I wanna know what’s the current “top tier” inner pillow on the market right now. Back then it used to be DHR6000 but the recent amazon reviews are quite low and complains about how it’s using a different material now (based from the reviews I think it started at late 2016), then I managed to stumble upon this which has better reviews and for only a fraction of the price. I just wanted to hear some thoughts and extra options if there are any.

Hello!

I’m new to Dakis and just ordered my 3 first covers from Cuddly Octopus.

And I am now searching for a pillow to put the covers on. After some research I found that the DHR6000 seems to be the best choice. However I need some advice on where to buy it:

DHR6000 on Japanese Amazon

DHR6000 on French Amazon (because i’m French)

It seems that the pillow on the French Amazon page is legit and that it’s Japanese companies reselling real DHR6000 for buyers outside of Japan.

But I wonder if I shouldn’t just buy on the Japanese Amazon through a proxy website? (and which proxy do you recommend?)

And I also discovered when I was searching that the old version of the DHR6000 was better than the newer one. Is it possible to buy this old version or is it completely discontinued?

Thank you in advance!

I’m thinking of getting a high quality inner pillow (it will be my first). My choices are

https://www.amazon.co.jp/抱き枕本体-Jオリジナル-DHR6000-ハイクラス-160cm×50cm/dp/B00CFG0B3I/

and

https://dakimakuri.com/shop/item/inner/kumochi-160-36

I don’t know about the quality of the “Kumochi” pillow and I can’t find any other link to a DHR6000 model pillow. Are there any other places I can get a good pillow?

Somewhat unrelated-ish, but I dunno where else to ask.

 1. It is just me or amazon japan prices for dakimakura and inners have all been significantly reduced? (I tried searching “抱き枕本体” and instead of seeing the usual 10k+ yen prices its all below 5k)

 2. I’m still looking to buy an inner and I’m still leaning towards this. However, does anyone know whether Japan delivers to Australia?

I have this japan post link but I can’t read it.

I’m gonna use Japan Shipping service since Amazon JP don’t deliver to Australia. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry in advanced because im sure this question has been asked but spend 3 hours on here trying to find a similar responce.

I need to buy an inner pillow and from everyone i’ve heard from DHR6000 is the go to choice. I went to see if I could find it and came across it on amazon. I’m from Canada btw, however, is this real? dunno why but I get uneasy from the ad. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/offer-listing/B00CFG0B3I/ref=dp_olp_new_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=new

looked for something similar on Japan Amazon so that is here for reference. https://www.amazon.co.jp//抱き枕本体-Jオリジナル-DHR6000-ハイクラス-160cm×50cm/dp/B00CFG0B3I/.

Lastly I am actually just interested in getting a plain cover, not so much into anime and don’t really want the hassle of having it around when friends are over. Still I would like to get the quality of regular cover just in a plain colour? Will the people who print the sheets do this?

lol discord brigade!!XD

I can understand dakimakuri being pissed about you calling their product crap, but relax, I still read all of yall comments.

So far, I got these 3 bookmarked: dakimakuri inner, DHR6k n DHR7k. Kinda leaning towards DHR6K, cuz I’m lazy to buy fillings and stuff em in.
Also, isn’t these two DHR6000 the same?

First time pillow buyer here. I’ve read enough on here to have decided on a 160 cm pillow, but since I don’t have the money to shelve out to import a DHR7000 from Japan, I’m considering alternatives.

Can I get some advice about choosing between these three?

DHR6000: I read on here that this was good, but that there was a drop in quality recently. It’s also really expensive 🙁

Other Pillow #1: Cheaper, but I’ve never heard of this pillow.

Other Pillow #2: Cheaper, but I’ve never heard of this pillow.

Or do you recommend something else entirely? Thank you!

That listing doesn’t ship to Canada unfortunately.

>As a counter point to your statement on the insanity of spending that much on a pillow, the price of the cover of said sexualized depiction of an anthropomorphized aircraft carrier would often be in the ranges of $115+ CAD assuming that it was a Japanese cover.

I just paid for it. $173 CAD including shipping. It was this cover. I rationalize the cost somewhat because it is a small production run, and presumably the artist is making a healthy commission on the whole thing. At least I hope that is the case, otherwise I’d feel a little silly about going all in the authentic Japanese cover. Pillows are a simple and mass produced object. Granted all my pillows are shitty, but a pillow would have to be really impressive to command that kind of dough.

Is there an English friendly seller of these pillows from Japan? I found one listing on Amazon.ca but it is $184 plus another $96 shipping. There has gotta be a more inexpensive way to get the same item.

I don’t know. The whole thing is completely insane. I may as well get a decent pillow. That daki cover of Unicorn was just too goddamn cute. I had to have it. It seems weird to sleep on it because it so lewd, but whatever. I would have preferred a lurid, but more clothed version, but the illustration is just so perfect I couldn’t not buy it. I rarely see covers that I really like, and when I do they aren’t available so I had to jump on this one.

Sorry just trying to come to terms with fact the fact that I paid a princely sum for (hopefully) high-quality, large loli pillow case.

Here’s two options, one slightly easier than the other.

First, you can always order the DHR6000 on Amazon US, but usually for a bit of a markup and there’s little way to verify beforehand the authenticity of the pillow (though going with a reputable seller would probably be fine).

The other way is to order it from Amazon Japan and use a forwarder to ship it to you. For instance, I use BigInJapan’s forwarding service. You can order from Amazon Japan in English, use BigInJapan’s address, and then buy a forwarding ticket and they’ll ship the DHR6000 to you once it arrives. Ends up being cheaper, safer, and probably quicker, but there’s extra steps involved adding complexity to the purchase.

Is there a lot of difference ? edit: I think it’s the same one ? :p

Also, since it doesn’t look like anybody has mentioned it, have you considered the actual pillow insert yet?

Almost anybody here would suggest https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B00CFG0B3I (or https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B00PIM8OTO if a smaller 150x50cm daki), which is pretty much guaranteed to delight her as it’s very soft and squishy while holding it’s shape well, but it does unfortunately come with some extra work as it doesn’t ship to the US.

I myself don’t have any other good substitute suggestions (help anyone?), but if you are willing to put in the extra effort, using a proxy service suggested in the side bar will help you get one.

Not the same person, but the general consensus in the daki community for 160×50 cm sized dakimakuras is the A&J DHR6000. It’s pretty pricey, but it feels really nice. Usually people order it from Amazon Japan with the help of a proxy, but I think if you live in the States they recently made it available on Amazon.com. Let me know if you need anymore help!

Hey, I need help when it comes to damage control for a dakimakura.

I’m rather new to the hobby. Recently, I bought a pillow and Ikaruga cover and it was great. However, I decided to buy a pillow cover to put over the Ikaruga sleeve because I was rather embarrassed of my family noticing it. Well, the result ended up with this lint as I removed the cover and this is the end result.

It seems to me that the cover entangled lint on the sleeve.

What would be the best way to handle this?

The first one seems to be drawn by Grandia. I will PM you a link for it as they also sell bootlegs to which we want not / are not allowed to link.

I have no idea where the second one is from.

And yes you would need to purchase a inner pillow aswell. But for 100 USD you won’t get a very good one. If you cannot buy one locally and live in the US you can buy one from Royal Pillow. If you live elsewhere … you are going to be disspointed with your pillow quality. The international shipping cost is a large part of the cost that you will pay regardless of the quality.

The recommended pillow is the DHR6000 which can be purchased either on Amazon or from Gate-japan You may want to get a 160cm pillow depending on what you plan to buy in the future. Most Japanese covers that are released are 160cm.

I recommend this pillow. It’s pretty much one of the best ones out there and when you order from amazon japan the taxes are already paid so you wont have any charges from the postal services.
https://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B00CFG0B3I/
For the cover itself I would recommend checking out https://dakimakuri.com/shop or https://cuddlyoctopus.com/ like another person said. These 2 sites have some of the cheaper covers while the quality is still good and they have original designs.
There are also covers on amiami and amazon japan but these are usually more expensive (>100€). If you have any doubts if a cover is a bootleg check out the questions thread in r/dakimakuras. The people there are always willing to help.
A dakimakura can be pretty expensive but it’s definitely worth it!
