Cuisinart Multi-Clad Pro. I have these and All-Clad and the Cuisinart Multi-Clad Pro is comparable in quality to the All-Clad at a fraction of the price. I bought mine from Amazon with no issues. Here’s an example listing for a set. I filled it out with a larger skillet and a large sautee pan.
·
Someone here suggested the this Cuisinart set as an alternative to the All-Clad line. The set is around your price point on Amazon, and includes a stock pot, two frying pans, two sauce pans, and a sauté pan all with lids for about $40 more. I’m moving apartments soon and shopping around and it’s what I’m leaning towards for my next set.
Edit: I realize it’s slightly more expensive but that’s my recommendation. I apologize if it isn’t helpful.
·
I got this set about 5 years ago and I love it. I have no doubt I will be cooking on them until I die.
·
This set by Cuisinart is excellent for starting out and will last a lifetime if cared for properly.
Along with this I recommend adding a enameled cast iron Dutch oven (Le Creuset being the best but Cuisinart makes a decent one)
Also add cast iron frying pan (lodge)
·
I have this Cuisinart set and absolutely love it. Plus enameled cast iron Dutch oven and casserole. Also Lodge cast iron skillet, fry pan, and Dutch oven.
Someone said not to get a knife set. I fully agree. I received a good mid range knife set one Christmas and the Santoku gets more than 95% of the action. The steak knives the almost all the rest. I would not miss the other knives if they were gone.
·
Is cuisinart really worth it? Iv been eyeballing this set but I want something to last many years Cuisinart MCP-12N Multiclad Pro Stainless Steel 12-Piece Cookware Set https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009JXPS6U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_0XJ5NJAD9VC2F7CNT0GA?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Yeah I was saying that originally the MultiClad Pro line {https://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-MCP-12N-Multiclad-Stainless-12-Piece/dp/B009JXPS6U) had stainless rivets but apparently have changed to aluminum now, not that yours are. I was wondering if they were the same line but as you said this may be the chef’s classic (which I know nothing about TBH).
·
my opinion is this is the best set you can get for under $500.
if you watch & wait for a sale you can get this set for $150 -$200.

That’s potentially a very long list. Do you really need a suggestion that you’ll need some kitchen knives, chopping board(s), a vegetable peeler? Or are you looking more for the “I’d have never thought of that” stuff?
I don’t know if a restaurant supply store is going to be ideal, unless you actually want appliances, cookware and utensils that might be used in a commercial kitchen. Go to Bed Bath & Beyond, Macy’s, Target, Walmart, Amazon… and see what grabs you. Sometimes you just say “I need that”.
Unlike knives, here’s where a decent cookware set can be a good starter. I think Cuisinart’s Multiclad Pro is a great value.
·
Hm, thanks. I have this set of stainless steel Cuisinart cookware that’s pretty decent. It’s MILES better than the cheap set of non-stick everything cookware I had before that, but I don’t love using it and I had a hard time believing the All-Clad stuff is that much better. I found an All-Clad 10″ skillet at TJ Maxx about a year ago for like $70 and was tempted, but I still couldn’t swallow the spend (same for the 6.5 qt Le Creuset Dutch oven I found there a couple weeks ago for $200).
Thanks for your reply. I’ll keep my eyes peeled for sales and look at getting a couple pieces I’ll use a lot vs. buying a whole set.
·
Couple years ago I got some Cuisinart MultiClad Pro and have been really happy with it. I linked to their 12-piece set just so you can see what several pieces look like, but it’s also sold individually so you can pick out exactly the pieces you need. Fully clad, great handles, very even cooking, no burning or sticking (though it’s stainless, not nonstick). I think it’s as close as you can get to All-Clad without taking out a second mortgage (and IMO the handles are actually better than All-Clad). I use a lot of acidic ingredients, so it’s great not to worry about that. Very happy with the skillets and also the 5.5-qr casserole, which I use for risotto or prepping Guinness stew.
I still keep a cheapo nonstick for eggs, and a little cast iron for steaks, cornbread or pizza, but at this point, most of what I pull out on a day-to-day basis is one piece or another of MCP. It suits how I cook and it’s very well made.
·
I love this Cuisinart Multiclad Pro potset. The Allclad tri-ply patents expired a few years back, and this has the same performance at a fraction of the cost. It has all the pots, pans and lids you need, plus a steamer basket. I also own a Dutch oven and cast iron skillet, but they predate the Cuisinart set, and I probably wouldn’t buy them today because they just duplicate functions and are heavier and harder to manage in the kitchen.
Cuisinart Multiclad Pro Triple Ply
In terms of other items, my daily use items are a good set of tongs, a set of lightweight plastic bowls (better than metal or glass because they don’t break or clang), a spatula, a mixing spoon, and a meat thermometer
·
People like that calphalon tends to be lighter, it also depends on if you prefer glass or metal lids. /r/buyitforlife tends to favor cuisinart, which has metal lids. I had cuisinart before I upgraded to all-clad and it was good. Also, if there is a kitchen store near you check out different handle styles on brands, that always seems to be pretty polarizing for some people.

The triple-ply patent on All-Clad expired a few years ago. Cuisinart and Kitchenaid now both make comparable items for a quarter of the price. At this point, if you buy All-Clad, you’re paying for status.
This Cuisinart Multiclad Pro set is “buy it once for life,” for under $300.

Cordless drills are pretty nice too. 🙂

I have this set (And trade experience with All-Clad) It’s a great set and you can find it at a great price.
If you wan’t to save a bit more you could cherry pick the items you need most.
·
The most bang for your buck, in my opinion, is to get a set of cladded stainless cookware. Then pick up a single non-stick skillet from Target or Walmart. If you feel like you need a cast iron skillet you can add that later. Sure you can spend time rummaging through TJ Maxx piecing together a cookware set, but I think you’ll be much happier with a set of stainless clad. The set below is by Calphalon and fully cladded.
·
No experience with these, but I have these.
They look similar and are similar in price. I love them. And they are 3 ply.
·
If you can stretch your budget a little bit this is probably the best consumer level set you can get in that price range – it’s true tri-ply construction all the way through (Costco’s Kirkland brand is only tri-ply at the base).
·
They’re only tri-play on the bottoms. I’d recommend spending a little more and going with a true tri-ply set such as this –
·
Which models are these? I’ve heard good things about them. Tests show heat distribution on par with All Clad.
Edit: Here’s the set I was referring to. Reviews are really good.
·
I have this set, plus a cast iron pan, an enameled cast iron dutch oven, and a small non-stick skillet that I use just for eggs.

I Don’t have the energy to give my entire stainless steel spiel right now, but if you have roommates that don’t respect your things, the only solution is to buy Stainless.
I recommend the Cuisinart Multiclad Pro. I bought it for $170 (the price of a good skillet from the premium brand), but I’m sure a ton more people are learning to cook due to being inside more this year, so the price shoot up above retail. Do not be mislead by that price, I think full retail was $279, not the $600! The Amazon bots marked it up to. Also the 10-piece in that listing isn’t the same model.
Tramontina Tri-ply Stainless is a valid second option. I would skip them, but they’re fine if you can find a better price on either brand. Bearing in mind, that both of those are the wrong price right now. Aim for around $200. Or look at prices for those models individually.
The real trick is to get what is called “fully clad” or “tri-ply” stainless. It’s an aluminum core, surrounded by stainless steel. This is not the same as cheaper stainless with the disks welded to the bottom — those are often terrible, and even the best disk bottom is worse than any competent multi-ply. They’re virtually indestructible, have no coating or seasoning to ruin, and won’t chip or flake. They’ll stick a little, so what? Just trickle some water in and they’ll clean themselves. It’s fine.
If you get another non-stick or ceramic, they’re just going to ruin it again. If you get carbon steel or cast iron, they’re going to cook the wrong thing in it and cause it to rust. I highly recommend Stainless, and again while it doesn’t have to be the brand’s I recommended, If you invest in a good mult layer set, it will last you a lifetime.

My kirkland set… the largest frying pan has now warped after only 2 months so I’m looking for a replacement or recommendations.

Do you think I should try again with the kirkland?
·
I got a set of the Cuisinart MCP pans last year and they’ve been great. Not the most expensive but with a lot of the features of nicer pans.

- 5qt pot
- 3qt pot
- 2qt pot
- 1qt pot
- A large non stick and a small one.
- A large SS Saute pan with lid
- A large and small SS skillet with curved walls
- A wok
- 10″ cast iron pan
You may think wow thats too many pots. But that is what came with my set and I use them all the time. Sometimes I wish I had more pots. I still need a stock pot though…
Not the right store but for an idea of price I would look at these sets/items
·
Do you have a strong opinion on stainless steel cookware? I’ve been waiting for this Cuisinart set to go on sale.
·
I get where you’re coming from, but you really don’t have to shell out on high-end brands to get shit that will last forever. (Though you’re certainly welcome to if it brings you joy.)
If you really use a knife, you’re gonna have to replace it either way when the blade wears down from sharpening. Unless you buy really shit knives, blade wear is the only thing that will ever force you to replace a knife and it’s going to happen regardless of the quality of the knife. I’d just as soon get a fibrox/dexter with a comfortable handle and use it down to the nub. If nothing else, you’ll cry a lot less when you accidentally break the tip off one of these…
Cookware is kinda the same deal. It’s metal. Unless you buy something with crap handles that are going to come loose, coatings that are prone to flaking off or just the most cheaply manufactured stuff available, you’ll likely never wear it out. Even midrange stainless cookware will easily last a lifetime. If you don’t believe me, go to a few yard sales this weekend. It’s trivially easy to find 50+ year-old pots and pans that are good as new.
