>would I see a speed increase if I replaced the drive

Yes, you would, if you’re willing to pay extra for a portable SSD. What you have is a HDD portable drive, which usually can only hit max 200-300MByte/s or so(from the Amazon review for your model, its max is less than 200MB/s). Even USB 3.0 can hit max 500MByte/s speeds(theoretically), so your port and cable(I’m assuming min USB 3.0/3.1 Gen 1) is not even fully utilised. Changing the cable won’t make speeds faster(unless your cable is USB 2.0/1.x).

One of the cheaper portable SSDs I can find is the Crucial X6(US$177 on Amazon), it’s much smaller than your current My Passport, but way more expensive. It can hit 800MByte/s speeds tho, so it’s definitely way faster.

Btw if you’re not familiar with SSD prices, they’re way way more expensive than HDDs, so you’ll have to decide on price vs performance. But SSDs nowadays is decently affordable already, if you’ve seen the prices of yesteryears.

Might as well get one of these and not deal with the enclosure.

After my backup HDD broke, I finally ordered an external SSD today to speed up those 42MP file edits: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08FSNKNSV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Now to figure out how to tell Capture One that everything has moved…can I just replicate the folder structure, change the drive letter, and trick Capture One?

I’ve noticed what Amazon have started doing a lot on the faker deals is instead of showing the previous price, they have RRP showing instead. Did a quick search for an example and found this showing as discounted from £220, now 118, but camelcamelcamel shows it hasn’t hit £220 since May
