Aren’t those 50 dollars on Amazon though? They must be worth closer to $40 used then. No offense though, I could be wrong and have looked at the incorrect version or something like that. Hey, those look pretty cool. I’d buy them but I think I’m going to test out my current earbuds for a while before I upgrade to something new.

These are the ones I bought for my brother. I have the walnut but it’s the same driver and basically the same enclosure. I have heard the sound signature is almost identical.

The best under 100 except for the K361 but that one is usually over 100. The one thing to be awar of though is that the ear cups are on the smaller side, so that might be a deal breaker for some.

Between those two I would reach for the Senn HD 400s, but in that price bracket I would recommend something like the Emu-Walnut or the Creative Aurvana Live. Both are built on the OEM that was the Denon 1000. Both are quite well tuned and should be a decent step up over either the HD 400S or the AKG K52. If those shapes are a little too small a few other good performers at that price are the Audio-Technica ATH-M30x and the Status Audio CB-1.

Creative Aurvana Live! – has AutoEQ support

Audio-Technica ATH-M20X/M30X also have AutoEQ support but both have a resonance around 5000Hz caused by distortion which will only get worse if you try to fix with EQ

Even after all these years, I’m still partial to the Creative Aurvana Live! (CAL) for a very affordable entry-level closed back:

As far as open back, my vote goes to the Hifiman HE400se:

If you’re patient and keep an eye out, Hifiman does sell open box HE400se’s, directly, for a bit less as well:

For a decent-sounding pair, I’d choose the Creative Aurvana Live! SE

They used to have the non SE variant, but just updated it with this one which support “Super X-Fi” or whatever. It’s some head modeling and surround sound gimmick that makes some songs sound better but only works with content played through the in-app player. But it’s got a bio-cellulose driver and actually sounds pretty good from what people say. A good spend for $50.

It’s built cheap though, you kinda pay more for the sound than actually what it’s housed in :/

This one, it sounds amazing for the price, have to put up with the comfort though. Problem is there are not a ton of great options at $100.

I don’t believe I’ve ever once heard anyone recommend the M20X. Spec sheets don’t tell you how headphones will sound, Amazon star ratings don’t tell you whether something is good or bad, and quality doesn’t scale in lockstep with price.

I would return the M20X spend that $50 ish on either the CAL (if you need something closed-back like the A-T) or the Koss KPH30i (if leakage is less of a concern).

Try r/headphoneadvice if you want more recommendations, this sub is not generally about headphone listening.
