Oh that’s a shame. I can’t really think of closed-back recommendations at this price tbh. Maybe the Monoprice Modern Retro, but it’s anything but a “balanced” sound. Still a good budget can, apparently if you want gobs of bass.
If you can stretch, check to see if the Creative Aurvana Live! is available. Not CAL 2 (maybe be good too, idk), CAL 1. Hard to find now at ~$60. There seems to be the CAL SE for $50 in the US, but I have no idea if it’s the same good quality as the original.
·
IEMs are “In-Ear Monitors” AKA the kind that you insert in your ear canal for isolation.
EDIT: The nicer version of the CAL are the E-Mu Purplehearts.
·
Wired will always be better sound and cheaper if you don’t strictly need wireless. And wireless varies greatly in quality between supported codecs (which aren’t always listed).
Check out Creative Aurvana Live. One of the best sound for the price (or even twice the price). And they fit your budget exactly.

An audio interface which an be a cheap $30 Behringer, BIAS or S-Gear – though I vastly prefer S-Gear but it doesn’t have much in the vein of high gain options – and then I’d go with the Creative Aurvana Live for an inexpensive but very good sounding pair of headphones. I vastly prefer these to the Sony 7506s that are often recommended, though if you have above average ear size then you might want to go with something else, as the cups are a little small for some people.
·
> aurvana live 1
Are you talking about these? If yes, then they are too expensive for me:( its almost double the price here in canada for some reason. Thanks for the suggestions tho.
·
Any Bluetooth or 3.5mm jack headphones will work with the Vita. That said, headphone quality is a huge spectrum and there are a lot of variables. I prefer over-the-ear headphones, and this is the pair I use for just about everything, the audio quality is superb and the bass range is especially impressive.
·
> The CAL! are amazing and I have to admit I forgot about those, but they’re increasingly difficult to come by.
They are?
·
Creative Aurivana Live! are great for electronic without breaking the bank.
Highly recommended.
I actually sold my EE-MU Teaks and went with the CAL!s because I couldn’t tell a $500 difference in the price.
·
The “spatula hitting tin foil” I think is just bad mastering on that song, that is being emphasized by the sound signature of the IEMs. I think I’m getting somewhat of a similar effect from those on my HD600’s. As for the buzzing in the bass, I suspect your pair might be defective, because I am definitely not getting that.
Seems like M6 is another one of those things that was good a few years ago, but there’s better stuff out nowadays.
If you want a huge upgrade, I would recommend the VSonic GR07 Classic. Expensive, sure, but with IEMs I think lower price points than that make trade-offs that can be a little frustrating to tolerate or choose between. If you would rather go the over ear route, Creative Aurvana Live! (the first one) is an excellent choice.
·
But be careful with them, they sound fantastic for the money, but the build quality is a little iffy. Treat them well and maybe get a carrying case for them and you will have a great headphone for a reasonable price
·
You should really consider dropping the wireless requirement, since they don’t need to be portable. You save money and gain quality.
Creative Aurvana Live! fit what you described.
Not sure what “some isolation” means. Open or closed cans? Open have much better spatial positioning, which would be good for FPS games, and better soundstage, which is good for music and gaming.
If open are ok too, AudioTechnica AD700X is $100, AKG K612Pro is $140 and Sennheiser HD598 SR is $150. Great for music, amazing for gaming.
·
I got the CAL off Amazon less than a year ago, and they’re working fantastically, but the hinge right above the cup snapped on me today. They’re held together with wishes and tape right now, but is there a way to replace the headband altogether?
·
Do some research on the Creative Aurvana Live! It has a warm, engaging sound which should satisfy that desire for immersion. Plenty of bass too. Detail and clarity are good, not outstanding, but we’re talking $68 CDN. Its still my favorite headphone under $100.
·
AKG M220 is 91dB/mW and 62 Ohm impedance. You will need to spend at least ~$80+ on a headphone amplifier to properly drive them.
The CB-1 is not a great headphone, but surely better suited as an entry level headphone that can be used wit ha phone or computer.
With a budget around 50$+ you should take a good look at the Aurvana L!ve which sound fantastic at the expense of a somewhat brittle construction. Take good care of them and they will last you a long time.
·
Momentum 1 On Ear are not worth it. This would be a much better pick with a similar sound and far superior comfort.
·
Creative Aurivana Live! is a Foster biocellulose headphone that can often be had new for under $50.
I’m surprised they’re not discussed and modded more. They seem to have a lot of potential.
·
I would highly recommend the Creative Aurivana Live! over the SHPs in that price bracket.
CAL!s are rebadged Fostex cans with biocellulose drivers and they sound fantastic for the price.
·
$100 is pretty cheap as far as headphones go. However, there are a lot better options than the Sennheiser HD 280 in the sub-$100 price range. For example, Creative Aurvana Live.
·
Creative Aurvana Live! Headphones sound great for you, They have Bassy V shaped sound so they should be good for electronic music, Their requirement for an amp is minimal so it should drive off your phone fine and due to being closed headphones they should isolate sound relatively well.
·
I remembered a different headphone within your budget which is quite good, the Creative Aurvana Live. Not the Creative Aurvana Live 2, get the first model, it is better sounding. It’s one of those odd “I didn’t expect this company inexperienced in headphones to make something this good” kind of product.
·
These are definitely superior and heavily discounted since the newer version (L!ve2) was released. Don’t worry though, the original L1ve headphone is better than the newer one 😛
·
You’d still should post this in buy advice.
Anyways the Aurvana Live are a little above average (aka good sound for price) headphones that have the build durability of a $55 headphone (it’ll break easily if youre rough)
http://www.amazon.com/Creative-EF0060-Aurvana-Live-Headphones/dp/B000ZJZ7OA
$55 instead of 130 or however much your link was.
As for difference. Dunno, get a Hyper X CLOUD and call it a day.
·
All of that gear…
And not a good pair of headphones to be found! Haha!
No seriously, don’t buy gaming headsets guys.
Buy audiophile’s headphones and separate mic (like an antlion modmic).
They don’t have to be more expensive.
I still want to see someone find a pair of gaming headphones that sounds better than Creative Auravana Live headphones (extra points if the gaming headset is cheaper)
·
CAL!s would be a good choice. Under fifty bucks and a generally likable bassy sound.
If you want to spend a little more go for the M50x, they go on sale for ~80 bucks all the time, just wait for one of those.
Both are closed back. If you want decent active noise cancelling you’ll have to spend more.
·
Creative Aurvana Live – they’re repackaged Dennon AH-D1001s. Damn good sound quality for the price and the earpads are really comfortable. They do lack a microphone, though, and the plastic housings are a bit chintsy.
http://www.amazon.com/Creative-EF0060-Aurvana-Live-Headphones/dp/B000ZJZ7OA
·
Yeah. They were since replaced by the CAL! 2s but that doesn’t make them worse. They used to be pretty commonly recommended, surprised they’re not anymore considering how much their price has dropped.
·
Hi. I’d like to buy a new pair of headphones under 50€. And the best option I found so far is Creative Aurvana Live ( http://www.amazon.com/Creative-EF0060-Aurvana-Live-Headphones/dp/B000ZJZ7OA ) . What do you think about it? Can you recomand other options? I’d like over or on ear headphones, but in ear are Ok too.
P.S. I’ll use the headphones for listening to music on phone, outside, and computer integrated soundcard.
·
Thanks! These look pretty good. I see one review where the person said the pad doesn’t fit around their ear (sits on it) but the others say it’s big enough. I have small-ish ears…so I think I’d be fine.
But how do you know if you are getting the hybrid HM5 pads? Is that a dumb question? Are they separate? I’m looking at them on Amazon and can’t find anything about the HM5 pads.
·
Budget – $60-$80 (Can go up to $100 if its just that much better/ necessary)
Source – Laptop and smartphone (perhaps a surround sound amp in the future)
Requirements for Isolation – Not too much, just enough for public transportation
Preferred Type of Headphone – Over ear
Preferred tonal balance – Im not too picky here except I suppose a little extra bass wouldnt hurt for electronic music, and/or what ever works well for gaming
Past headphones – nothing worth mentioning
Preferred Music – A wide range, including: Indie/alt rock(everything from cage the elephant to weezer to and so on), noise rock/pop(blood red shoes etc), Nu metal(maximum the hormone, system of a down, etc), drum and bass (pendulumn, noisestorm, etc), EDM(purity ring, madeon, monstercat, etc)
What would you like to improve on from your set-up – I want some headphones I can use for gaming (hearing footsteps in fps games mostly but also for others like skyrim and minecraft etc.), and something that I can easily stash in my backpack and use at school etc, without them taking up too much space or risk breaking them
I currently considering the Creative aurvana live!, but I would like to see if I can spend a bit more to get something better and more portable
·
first of all, i hope that everything with the surgery goes well and he ends up in good shape afterwards 🙂
secondly, the creative aurvana live! are firmly within the budget and should be great for him 🙂
·
Ah those look like a pair of Sades. I had a pair of those. Decent sound, died within a week(shitty cable). The Tascam comes highly recommended from /r/headphones, so I’d imagine they’d last at least a couple months. I would recommend saving up some more cash though. These are really good headphones at the 50 dollar price point
The more you spend, the less you’ll regret it. Ofc, I’m not saying you need to spend 100+ for a good pair, but when a pair of headphones is 20 dollars, it’s cheap for a reason.
·
Budget – $60 – $70
Source – iPhone and PC
Requirements for Isolation – Some would be nice
Preferred Type of Headphone – Over the ear, Low Profile
Preferred Tonal Balance – Balanced
Past Headphones – Haven’t really had nice headphones. I currently use the Apple earpods for my phone and the Logitech G930 for my PC.
Preferred Music – Electronic, Pop
I am currently looking at these: http://www.amazon.com/Creative-EF0060-Aurvana-Live-Headphones/dp/B000ZJZ7OA/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1429570541&sr=1-1&keywords=creative+aurvana+live
Any other suggestions?
·
These are great. I got them for $40 brand new and I love them. They’re soft and feel solid. Great bass too.
·
These headphones are fantastic for the price. They use an older Denon driver, and sound great. I bought a pair for a friend of mine as a christmas gift. He recently thanked me for ruining music for him, because he can only listen to music on these headphones now.
I took mine apart and re-cabled them with a thicker cable and it makes them a bit more warm, which I enjoy. ($25 mod)
·
I was thinking of the standard Beats, as well as the ones with extremely large ear cups – because the bass response wasn’t quite enough to begin with.
I’ve never heard them either. Hell, I’ve never heard the normal beats headphones.
I got these at $60 and I love them as if they were a guitar/child
·
In order of price:
Creative Aurvana Live! (NOT THE LIVE 2).
Phillips Fidelio X2 The Fidelios L1 are also good on bass.
Massdrop x Fostex TH-X00 (Mahogany have the best bass, Purplehearts have the most bass, Ebony have the most controlled bass)
Fostex TH900 Simply, the best bass headphone money can afford. Its craaaaaazy.
There are others that people like to recommend the old Denons, specially the D2000 that can be found cheaper in Ebay, but its a pain in the butt to find, same with the MDR-XB1000.
Some people will also mention some JVC ones, but i havent had the chance to try them. Btw some people will recommend the HE400i and please no stay away from them. Stay away from Planars in general if you want Basshead levels of Bass, the LCD-2 Pre-Fazor being the only exception (i tried it like a year ago so i dont remember a lot but i liked it).
·
My pleasure!
Depending on your preferences and how flexible your budget is, you could use these peripherals:
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

And then snag this deal on some NVX XPT100s. That’d come out around $275. If you’d like to shave off a bit, the keyboard could be replaced with an alternative with either Kailh Blues or ALPS Blues both of which are also clicky switches, but which have a different feel (particularly the ALPS).
Now, that said, the XPT100, while very well regarded is a warm (slightly bassy) but generally neutral headphone. If you want something with more bass emphasis, Creative’s Aurvana Live! would be an excellent choice and slightly cheaper to boot. I have their bigger brother, the CAL! 2, and they’re quite fun headphones. Not ideal for detailed analysis of Vivaldi, but great for some EDM.

·
I don’t think so? Here it is on Amazon brand new
·
- Creative Aurvana Live
- Takstar Pro 82
- Strangely the Status Audio CB1‘s are not available through amazon, for an American brand even stranger
- AKG K240

Of these I only own the Takstar Pro 82’s, so for the other ones you should look up opinions/impressions of other people but these are longtime classics of sorts among the ‘entry level’ models.
·
I know you said stretching would be tough, but in all honesty, Creative Aurvana Live sound like they’d work perfectly. $70 on Amazon. They punch well above their weight class. I don’t imagine you’ll upgrade for quite some time.
·
I don’t need it, but the Creative Aurvana Live is half off ($50), both at their site and on amazon.
·
Creative Aurvana Live 1 or Creative Aurvana Live SE, to be honest as far as I know they’re pretty much the same it’s just 1 is the original design and SE is a re-release recently and $10 cheaper.
Koss Porta Pro I heard is good too and very bassy. But never personally owned it, it seems to catch on and pull hair from time to time from what I hear. Otherwise suppose to be good for the price.
Creative Aurvana Live might be the safer choice if you’re coming from M40X. It’s also super easy to drive so you wouldn’t need anything special to power it.
Good luck and let me know how it goes later lol.
·
Does it have to be a headset? If not, these headphones aren’t new but kinda popular: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000ZJZ7OA/
and here’s a basic mic: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076ZSR6BB/
·
I heard that the CALs ($50) are great, but they’re not really that comfortable.
·
Creative Aurvana Live! are amazing at that price range, they are a little fragile though
·
>Creative Aurvana Live
https://www.amazon.com/Creative-EF0060-Aurvana-Live-Headphones/dp/B000ZJZ7OA

Is this the one you are talking about?
·
Depends on price point.
Takstar’s first open/closed variants, the HyperX rebadges and 2nd gen, Superlux 668B (what I’m using now), all gettable for $50 or less. Also Philips SHP9500 used to be below that but went into high demand. Interestingly, the Aurvana Live’s (Denon AH-D1k1 or 1100 drivers) are $50 on Amazon. I got the OEM version of those for $75? a long time ago.

Hello! Thanks for posting :). I advise you to purchase the CAL, or creative aurvana live headphones. These are a great pair of starter headphones with very strong bass.

Just to clarify, talking about the first version. Second one not nearly as good.
These should be a significant upgrade in bass at the very least.

Creative Aurvana Live is a much better choice.

598 isn’t that great nowadays. Get CAL to scratch your bass itch.

I am using creative aurvana live headphones i used to use fine for years and never sound low. ( i also tried swapping for new in box one i had saved with same problems )
https://www.amazon.com/Creative-EF0060-Aurvana-Live-Headphones/dp/B000ZJZ7OA
With my old asus xonar d2x they never sound this low.
I did fresh windows install and installed chipset drivers/sata drivers/latest drivers under website support page with correct windows 10 64 bit listed. I continue to have low sound. My cousin has an asus rog hero IX and hi sound and his neighbor is not low like mine with same settings.
these are my current settings:

It looks like a worse sounding Creative Aurvana Live. CAL is on Amazon right now for $55 and CB-1 usually sits at $80.
·
Ở VN còn bán Creative nhiều không?

·
https://www.amazon.com/Creative-EF0060-Aurvana-Live-Headphones/dp/B000ZJZ7OA
Creative Aurvana Live! (not the CAL 2; the first version) should be right up your alley.
·
I’ve heard good things about HyperX sound quality, which seems to be echoed in this thread.
I’m using Creative Aurvana Live! with the stereo adapter and a ModMic. I’ve heard good things from my friends about chat quality from the mic, and the Live!’s have really good (into-level) audio quality, so I can use them for other things.
Edit: I recall leveraging these reviews heavily when deciding on a headset.
·
For sound accuracy none of them are going to be particularly good.
If you don’t care about the mic why not just get a normal pair of headphones instead of a headset?
You’re honestly better off saving just a few more dollars and getting something like the ATH M30x’s for $70. Or you could even get them for $53 through the Amazon warehouse deal.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00HVLUQW8/ref=dp_ob_neva_mobile
You could also get the older version on eBay for around $45.
A few other options that come highly recommended for this price range.
Creative Aurvana live – $50 – https://www.amazon.com/Creative-EF0060-Aurvana-Live-Headphones/dp/B000ZJZ7OA
Monoprice 8323 – $16 – https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=8323
The monoprice headphones are surprisingly well regarded for the price although people have said they are not the most comfortable headphones.
·
Hey there! I’m new here, looking for some suggestions. Based on the Wiki, I previously bought the Creative Aurvana Live I, but I’m looking to move a step up.
I’ve been looking into the Sennheiser HD line, but for the life of me I can’t find any demos near where I live (Kansas City area) and nobody I know has them. I’m also not sure exactly which model in the line would be the best fit. I’m 100% open to suggestions that aren’t in the Sennheiser HD line. Anywho, recommended template:
Budget: $300-ish
Source: 3.5mm jack (phone/laptop), would use Bluetooth if the headphones support it.
Requirements for Isolation: Moderate. I work in an office that gets noisy at times, and I’d like to be able to block that out.
Will you be using these headphones in public?: At work and at home; portability is not a large concern.
Preferred type of headphone: Over-ear > In ear. I really don’t like on-ear models.
Preferred tonal balance: V-shaped or balanced; either is fine, but having at least decent bass is a must.
Past headphones: The Creative Aurvana Live I were my first non-cheapy headphones. They’re passable, but I’ve noticed they have some noise leakage, don’t isolate sound as much as I’d like, and don’t really feel as full as I’d like.
Preferred music: A wide range, but mostly pop-punk (i.e. Blink-182, New Found Glory) and melodic hardcore (i.e. Misery Signals, Counterparts). I also listen to podcasts, but I’m not terribly concerned with balance on my podcasts.
What would you like to improve on from your set-up: More full-sounding, better noise isolation, less sound leakage.
·
Headphones are complicated: different people like different types of heaphones. For example, these Creative Aurvana Live! are what I’d buy.
Ask /r/headphones for advice (read first their buying guide and gaming guide). Just don’t forget that the motherboard’s sound chip requires a headphone with an impedance under 75 ohms; unless you’re going to use an amp.
·
If you’re willing to stretch your budget a bit to $72 or just wait for these to be cheaper, the Creative Aurvana Live! are very good.
·
Really cheap yet great: koss ksc75. I used these since the ps3 days and they are some of the most comfortable headphones I’ve used (they rest on your ear basically). Oh, and for the price, they sound amazing.
Or you can go with the creative aurvana live headphones, those were my daily cans until recently, and as a big headed individual who also wears glasses, they are great. But as for any headphones, it’s subjective.
·
A CAL could do you well. They’re not a very large or bulky headphone, but they’re still over ear. They sound quite incredible for the price too. No removable cable though sadly.
https://www.amazon.com/Creative-EF0060-Aurvana-Live-Headphones/dp/B000ZJZ7OA
http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/creative-aurvana-live-classic-reincarnate#5ZxV4sTgzGBmSGFH.97
·
Creative Aurvana Live! as your cheapest option, currently $45 at Amazon. A great budget basshead set of cans: bass is very, very strong, but the rest of the ranges are pretty nice, although the mid-range is slightly recessed.
At the height of your budget is the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro. They’re known for having a fantastic bass response, and are recommended a lot in this sub. Similar properties to the Aurvana Live: bass is just great, midrange is recessed a bit, highs are clear. They’re also very comfortable.
Make sure to get the 32 Ohm or 80 Ohm version (that I linked), and not a version with a higher impedance: the more Ohms the impedance is, the tougher it’ll be to drive. The 250 Ohm version would require an external amplifier.
·
Looking into a couple headphones in the >$50 range, Creative Aurvana Live! and Superlux HD668B
First one I found on this sub’s recommendations list: Creative Aurvana Live!
Another I found linked off of that one: Superlux HD668B
I previously had a set of Beats Solo 2s that I received as a gift that were my daily set at work since I normally wear headphones at my desk. The cable spanning the bridge of the phones frayed or broke causing the right sound to go out and considering the price of either paying for a repair or buying the parts and likely breaking things further, I believe buying a new set of headphones to be the best option here.
I have been using my Sennheiser HD 280s at work but the clamp force makes it so I can’t wear them as long as I’d like to. Plus, I’m not a fan of how they look on my head.
Considering that one comes with free shipping and the cheaper one doesn’t, final price will be a matter of >$5 so price isn’t a big consideration between the two. What I’m mostly looking for is comfort, ability to hear what is going on around me without others being able to hear my music, and overall sound and build quality. I will mostly be using them in an often quiet but sometimes moderately loud office environment and keeping my Sennheisers at home.
Edit to fit format
Budget – >$75
Source – Work laptop, home desktop, iPhone 6 plus
Requirements for Isolation – Some, I will mostly be using them in an often quiet but sometimes moderately loud office environment
Will you be using these Headphones in Public? Yes
Preferred Type of Headphone – Full sized or On-ear
Preferred tonal balance – Overall balanced, with focus if any on mid or bass
Past headphones – Beats Solo 2, Sennheiser HD 280
Preferred Music – Rock, electronic (a ton of bandcamp music), Jazz, Blues, a lot of spoken word videos, some hip-hop.
What would you like to improve on from your set-up – Comfort over the Senns, Durability over the Beats
Does anyone have experience with these two headphones?
·

I haven’t used any gaming headsets but if you’d like a comparison to other gaming headsets see here, otherwise I’d be inclined to recommend the Creative Aurvana Live! (CAL!) 1 or 2, but neither is particularly great at isolation (it’s decent) or the NVX XPT100 which is slightly better in terms of isolation but slightly more neutral than the CAL!.

Throwing this post up because I am new to the world of audio and headphones. I have run through a handful of searches, threads, and wiki links over the past few days, but I would feel more comfortable with some guidance from this thread. Thus…
Budget – $100 – $150. I might be able to go above that, but I’d really prefer not to, unless the quality and durability are outstanding.
Source – Plugging them into my desktop PC. I will be using them for gaming, music, anime, television, movies, and calls.
Requirements for Isolation – From what I understand, I need closed headphones. I will be using these at home, but the background can get noisy, and I also do not want sound to leak.
Preferred Type of Headphone – I only have experience using full-sized, over-ear headphones. I will be wearing them a lot, so I would prefer for them to be very comfortable to wear with my glasses. I also tend to leave them on while writing when I have no music going, since I prefer the silence.
Preferred tonal balance – I have no idea what would be best in this category. I have been a little overwhelmed trying to figure out what I like and prefer. I know that when I listen to music and have game audio, I love having full, encompassing sounds. I am sorry that I am not much help, here. 🙁
Past Headphones – I have only used Logitech G35s, and one Turtle Beach Earforce Z2 or some such that broke in a month. I have gone through a few G35s and I am tired of them breaking at the swivel within 6-10 months, but they are quite comfortable. My current pair is loosely held together with tape.
Preferred Music – I primarily listen to symphonic metal and chill and house variants of electronica, but I also enjoy some drum and bass and alternative rock and metal varieties, some kpop, and other wider ranges of all of the aforementioned. Examples:
W I S H I W A S ft Karra – Josie
What would you like to improve on from your set-up – Durability, for one. I am tired of headphones breaking just from putting them on and taking them off (I am very, very careful with my headphones). Other than that, I would really like to have sound that will help in FPS games and similar. I play a wide variety (League of Legends, Hearthstone, various single-player FPS, some RTS, some MMORPGs), but I have only really noticed a difference while playing CS:GO and watching movies in terms of the “surround sound” mattering. I have read about the various advertising pushes of 5.1 and 7.1 being mostly false/gimmick marketing (?), but that has left me relatively unsure what to pursue.
From my research, it seems the Creative Aurvana Live! and an Antlion modmic would be a decent setup. I also saw mentions that the HyperX Cloud 2 headset is surprisingly good for a “gaming headset”. The combo I linked seems good, but would the double wires get annoying? Is the modmic easy to attach? Am I missing anything crucial in this selection, or is there something better?
Closing notes: I will be using these a lot, and for full disclosure I am hard of hearing so these act as a sort of hearing aid for me (I do not wear my aids when the headphones are on).
I hope this was not too long, and I appreciate any help or advice! Thanks for reading.

Ok, so I have a couple of options for you based on your bass preferences, noise isolation needs, and music types.
One thing I want to note is that these options are broken down into two categories: the headphones themselves and then the microphone. You may be thinking, ‘Why not get a Razor or Turtle Beach headset for ~$100 with both built in?’ The fact is, and this is from personal experience, gaming headphones/headsets are ‘fake’ in the sense that their sound is not always clear and their bass is distorted. When you take the same amount of money and put them towards real headphones engineered for music and various sounds, you’re going to get much more bang for your buck.
Option One: Creative Aurvana Live! Headphones
Best Price: Amazon @ $73.98
Mic: Zalman Zm-Mic1
Best Price: Amazon @ $9.75.
Total: $83.78 (is $0.78 too much over)
Notes: These are going to be right up your alley as they’re one of the better options for getting more bass without sacrificing other elements in this price range. They also offer an impressive soundstage (good for games so you can tell where you’re getting shot from). A weaker point is their treble, but it isn’t bad, just weaker. They look cheap (most headphones in this range are made of plastic) but will be very comfortable. The mic is an economical option that essentially clips onto your cord. Probably one of the most efficient options under $100.
Upgrade It
If you think you have the room for it, I would get a ModMic instead of this clip mic, for $40 more. This is considered to be one of the best gaming mics that you can clip into any headset you have.
Option Two (A step above your range)
This is where things get tricky because when we talk about the ‘reachable’ dream range, the bass-heavy sets are mainly DJ headphones, which aren’t super comfortable without a little bit of modding. Thus, I’m proposing two ‘above and beyond’ options.
The first are the Audio-Technica Pro700MK2
Best Price: $132.24 @ Nothingbutsavings
Mic: Zalman Zm-Mic1
Best Price: Amazon @ $9.75.
Total: $141.99
Notes: These are DJ headphones. They have great bass at multiple levels with mediocre treble and soundstage. However, you’ll likely need to mod the cushion yourself to make it comfortable for long periods of gameplay, as it’s a DJ headphone. Nevertheless, the bass is going to be solid and your midrange will be slightly warmed and detailed.
Upgrade It
Again, I’m going to suggest the Modmic for $40 more. This
Option Three (also a step above your initial range
Sennheiser HD 558
Best Price: $116.99 @ Awardpedia
Mic: Zalman Zm-Mic1
Best Price: Amazon @ $9.75.
Total: $126.74
Notes: These are great not only because they are very comfortable, but the soundstage on them really stands out–you may end up turning your head to see what’s behind you when wearing these. Your mid levels will really shine as well. Very relaxed sounding. However, the bass is not emphasized as much–some reviewers say it’s perfect while others think that the bass is too quiet. Yet, in this range, it’s hard to find something that’s really bass heavy without giving up too many other features.
Upgrade It
Again, I’m going to suggest the Modmic for $40 more. This
I hope these three suggestions help and give you some flexibility. I tried keeping the first one as close to your budget request while targeting your preferences. The second two were a little more difficult to figure out due to the different variables between $100-$200.
Before buying, ask /u/Mad_Economist/ to look this over (as well as anybody else) as he’ll have much better insight than me; he’s the audio maestro here.

Budget: 100$ish
Source: Phone, PC
Isolation: Not really, mostly just for home use
Type: Full-sized or on ear, either is good
Tonal Balance/Music: Hard to say and is where I am a bit confused, I listen to a lot of hip hop but I don’t really care about booming bass. Really I just want a quality set that allows me to hear lyrics well, while still appreciating the production quality, which I feel too much bass might detract from that.
Past Headphones: Mostly basic stuff other than a pair of 50$ IEM seinnhousers, so any upgrade is welcome!
I have looked at These and These and it seems like since the creative is on the /r/headphones list it would be a good pickup, but the AKG’s I heard some good things about and they actually look pretty cool.
Basically I listen to a lot of hip hop and would like a decent good for the price set of headphones that will be much better than listening through my computer speakers. Any help/advice is appreciated!
So far it seems like the creatives are a good pick

If you can’t find a well-stocked hifi store in your area, you should read some online reviews.
Inspired by this thread I was browsing (head-fi)[http://www.head-fi.org/] yesterday and these were recommended there as very comfortable with great sound.

I’d recommend Creative Aurvana Live, the first version. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ZJZ7OA?pf_rd_p=c2945051-950f-485c-b4df-15aac5223b10&pf_rd_r=6JT9VV5SN9KE8RMCSKNW
Extremely good bang for the buck, and probably the best you can get under $150 or so. Very easy to drive, don’t need an amp, and sound great from anything I’ve plugged them into so far.

you dont need a ‘mini subwoofer’
buy bassy headphones.
those are where id look in the $50 range.
·
why is reddit so obsessed with these? i got em and was unimpressed tbh, especially with the amount of hype it recieved from this sub. there’s a lot of headphones you can get for cheaper that have better build/sound quality, then just throw on a modmic or something. i ended up returning it and getting these for nearly half the price and twice the sound quality.
EDIT – downvote all you want, it’s common knowledge headsets cut corners on quality in order to ship 2 products in one. im simply making a suggestion.
