I basically had the same skin as yours. Disclaimer, you should definitely book with a dermatologist, and get a 2nd opinion if you don’t feel comfortable – you can do this all online and it’s way cheaper too!
Right now I can see your skin is really irritated, inflamed, and red. Your goal should be to bring down that redness while renewing a your skin with Differin.
Anyways here’s my routine which really works for me:
– 0.1% Differin.
– a gentle foam cleanser, doesn’t have to be super expensive, any gentle calming cleanser works. Tip: foam cleansers advertised that are good enough for baby skin are the best gentle cleansers because the FDA has higher standards as to what you can put on a babies face.
– SPF 50+ sunscreen because Differin thins out your skin and will deep fry your face more than any meme.
– Salicylic Acid (2%) – I use Clearasil hydra-blast pads to clean off the dead skin cells in the evenings (only). Don’t overdo or you’ll break your skin barrier. Any other type of Salicylic Acid or exfoliation treatment works, but this is the exfoliation exfoliation part and cannot be skipped.
Alternatively i’d recommend trying out The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5% (not 10% or your skin will die). Another good exfoliant is Tatcha’s Gentle Deep Exfoliator. Paulas Choice has some good ones too.
The most important part is choosing one that won’t ruin your skin barrier, but is still effective enough to remove that dead skin cell layer that the Differin will push up even more.
– La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 to protect your skin barrier, reduce inflammation, and treat redness. This one is a lifesaver and a must have. Here is the link. Check out the reddit and amazon(canada) reviews!
– In the summer the LRP Baume might be too heavy for daytime use, so I might either mix it or replace it with my lightweight moisturizer.
– Klairs midnight blue calming cream. Complete lifesaver in reducing redness or treating sunburn. I use it with the LRP B5, just mix em together or layer them.
– LRP Cicaplast Lip balm. Optional, but the best lip balm i’ve ever tried (blows laneige lip sleeping mask out of the water)
