Honestly, if I was looking for a new mechanical keyboard under 100 bucks it would probably be that one. For the price, it is amazing. I did want to mention, if you don’t want to get red switches you can get the same board at Amazon in brown or blue switches, but it is more: https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Mechanical-Keyboard-Backlighting/dp/B07D9GMYPR/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1533915800&sr=8-1&keywords=cooler+master+ck550

I’ve have been working with Cooler Master on some keyboard related projects and they really do make good mechanical keyboards.

I recently purchased a Hyperx alloy elite rgb red switch during the prime day sale for about $110. Only issue I have is that the key caps have a “weird” feeling but I could get used to it.

Today I saw the CK550 on a small sale for $105 (I can get it down to $80 if I use my promotional credits). I’m wondering if I should get this instead. The CM one has gateron browns which I haven’t tried before but reviews say the keyboard is pretty decent.

Any insight from current owners of either? Other keyboards I could get?

Media controls aren’t a must. Only looking on amazon because I want to use these credits.

Cooler Master usually has good discounts at various times of the year. Right now the CK550‘s $~19 off actually. If it goes lower during those sales it’d be another $10 max.

Consider the CK550 over the Pro, it has updated software for macro support that’s actually usable, and smoother stock lighting, and it’s a lot cheaper right now.

Also the rubberised case on the Pro is really hard to clean properly, I own one and I would get either the CK550 or the MK750 at this point in time.

The GMMK is great if you want to play with switches, but if that’s not a priority then skip it, the build quality isn’t amazing.

Look at the Cooler Master MasterKeys CK550. CM’s one of the better known brands, the new CK55x and MK750 boards have smoother lighting, far better macro support, and a nicer case (subjectively, as an owner of a Pro – rubberized Pro case sucked) than the old Pro models, and Browns are currently just under $100 CAD.

You lose the nicer keycaps, and probably some level of build quality, but y’know, it’s pretty cheap for us.

The Canadian market sucks, so I settled for a CM initially and just got nicer keycaps later, and I was happy with that.

In Canada, you’re gonna be looking at Cooler Master – the CK550 is a decent one.

Our mech selection sucks up here. Can’t get a ton of the more often recommended brands without high shipping fees.

Hi all, I’m from India and currently looking to buy my first Mech. I have been researching a lot past 1-2 weeks (Kinda went down a rabbit hole tbh). Right now my heart is set on the Cooler Master CK550 with Gateron Browns.

I don’t type a lot but play a lot of Overwatch, though the general recommendation is Reds for that I like a little bump on my keys but also don’t like them clacky (I get headaches from such noises if I don’t end up getting used to them plus the mic will pick it up when playing). I bought a really affordable ($35) mechanical keyboard from an Indian company with Kailh Browns and returned it after 2 days. Though it had decent build quality with an aluminium plate on top, the per row chroma lighting and key cap fonts were way worse than they looked in photos and videos which I looked at before I bought it. Though one thing I took away from it was that I do like Brown switches, but would like the bump to feel even more pronounced which afaik Gateron browns have.

The CK550 is currently around 6K ($80~) on 3 decently reputable Indian PC component sites and 7K on Amazon. It seems to have just gotten listed 1~ week ago everywhere so I’m gonna wait for a month or two and see if the price falls down under 5k (a 30-50% price drop generally happens within a few weeks with low selling niche tech products on Amazon at least, especially Gaming products which tend to be highly overpriced).

Is there any other keyboard I can look into which has similar features that CK550 has (Decent build, decent switches, full RGB, clean design, good software and warranty)? I looked into the Anne Pro 2 and looked into 60%s but I don’t think I am quite ready for 60% right now. I can do TKLs but couldn’t find any good TKLs in similar range (Willing to give up on warranty if it’s a really solid board with tons of reviews and no known big issues). Any keyboards in this range with similar features that are coming up in the next 3-4 months (I am willing to wait a bit)? I read somewhere that Cooler Master has new TKLs coming up in similar price range as the CK550 but no substantial info about release dates.

I found something: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D9GMYPR/ – Coolermaster CK550, Gateron Brown switches, RGB, full size. If it’s too weird of an angle for you, you could get a wrist rest along with it.

that is if you must have a mechanical keyboard. If you can do without one it will be a lot cheaper

It’s a slider over rubber dome/membrane. Not mechanical. Really will not feel mechanical either.

“hybrid mechanical” belongs in the bin with “mechanical feel”, “mem-chanical”, “mecha-membrane”, and all the other other marketing wank terms for “we made a very expensive membrane keyboard”.

At 60, or 80 with shipping to my province, you may as well be considering an actual mechanical board. Check out the Cooler Master CK550 on Amazon.

This keyboard seems to be well regarded. It has Gateron switches (a competitor/clone of Cherry MX). This is the historical lowest price according to 3C’s. It normally sells for $117.
