you should get him to use https://www.amazon.com/Colgate-Sensitive-Relief-Mouthwash-Alcohol/dp/B01413U95M 2 times a week swishing through the teeth for 2 minutes
no more then twice per week though unless your water is not fluorinated. it is a highly flourinated mouthwash
specifically that version has a higher concentration.
also give him gum containing xylitol to chew a few times a day
