As for the USB KVM, it frustrated me enough that I replaced it with a HDMI KVM with a built in USB 3.0 Hub. Started a work from home position where I have to share my monitor with my work laptop and I did not like swapping cables around or changing inputs on my monitor.

I use this KVM: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B08VN2H49H/

Handles my Windows work laptop, M1 mini and 2018 intel mini just great. One thing to note though, it does not output enough power to drive a mechanical gaming keyboard. Get yourself a powered USB Hub to go between the KVM and Keyboard and you’ll be fine. KVM is HDMI, connects up to 4 computers and does 4k 60Hz resolution.

I’ve used both of these switches with good results
HDMI: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08VN2H49H

DisplayPort: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08NV4Q591

For use with a gaming keyboard or a keyboard with a USB hub built in, I’d recommend attaching the keyboard to a powered USB Hub. The switches don’t provide enough power for more “advanced” keyboards. I was using the HDMI with my 2018 Mini and my work laptop, but when I got my M1 I moved to DisplayPort because the M1 is picky about properly detecting my monitor (and all available resolutions and refresh rates) with HDMI. If you go DisplayPort, get the USB C to DisplayPort and HDMI DisplayPort adapter from Cable Matters.

If you do go with a KVM, I recommend HDMI as most of them support EDID, which means the computer you switched away from still thinks there is a monitor connected so your window placement doesn’t get all messed up when you switch back. There are a few USB C KVMs that say they have EDID, but the reviews weren’t great. DisplayPort does not support EDID at the protocol level so there is no way a DisplayPort KVM can properly do EDID.
