UK user here and have never previously owned a mechanical keyboard yet I would like to buy one having read content from this sub, would a “Cherry G80-3850LYB GB-2 MX 3.0 Keyboard” from amazon be a good start or does anyone have any better suggestions?
This keyboard is the limit for my budget (£55) and I would prefer a full size keyboard with numpad etc. For someone coming from a laptop keyboard with scissor switches is there anything I should bear in mind? Many thanks!

I got a cherry mx3.0. Low profile I found way easier on my wrists than the higher profile coolermaster quickfire I got, it’s great quality, good for typing, great for gaming and also 60 quid is very reasonable for a keyboard that good.

Few days ago, I’ve bought this cherry mx-board keyboard. Should be in tomorrow. It’s my first mechanical keyboard, so I’ve a question.

Can I freely rearrange keys on it? From what I see on the picture, they’re sized exactly the same. I want to move to Dvorak layout, and looking at the keys would make it easier for me to switch 😉

This should be good for you. 55 GBP, MX Red’s, but sadly no ISO. Will be great however if you will ever get a keycap set, because mostly they are ANSI.

I never used a mech before either, but I’m saving up for one as well. People have reccomended this one for gaming:http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cherry-MX-Board-Wired-Professional-Keyboard/dp/B00CITN98G/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1440419151&sr=8-2&keywords=cherry+keyboard
I think the reason you got downvoted so much was because you said that LEDs were the most important part. Most people buy keyboards based on how they feel, how useful they are etc, how it looks shouldn’t be a deciding factor.

well, it has notebook-style flat keys (which I don’t like that much), but still is a nice mechanical keyboard. I’d recommend Brown switches as they aren’t as loud as blues and still have a noticeable pressure point.

My girlfriend uses it and likes the MX-Board 3.0 a lot. She always rages about the keyboards in University since she has it. If you want to know something, just ask, I’ll be happy to answer your questions.

There are a few reviews on amazon.co.uk, if that helps?

Cherry (the company that makes the switches in mechanical keyboards) now do their own. Im currently using one right now and its a good price point. Its no frills but does what you need =]

I think the same one you’re referring to this one, it says Black in the title but that’s the colour of the keyboard itself rather than the switches, not sure if it’s the exact one I ordered but mine also had the American layout in the picture but I received a UK layout keyboard.

My logic when buying it was that if Cherry make the switches for most of the other top keyboards then their own board will be quality, and honestly, I’m super-pleased with it. It’s lasted me about a year so far and I’m sure it will last me much longer, hope this helps.

If possible, you may want to try out some different switches at a computer shop or something, I didn’t, but I’m happy with the Reds, pretty sure this board also comes in the other main colours (blues, browns and blacks).

I got one of these for £50. No backlighting and it’s just a big clunky black rectangle design-wise, but it feels great and makes lovely sounds.

I’m wanting to sell my Cherry G80-3850LYB with the included palm rest if you’re interested? Works perfectly fine, I just want to buy a wireless TKL instead.

Bought it from Amazon August 2016.

I can send you photos, videos of it working or whatever you like if you’re interested. Would be looking for bank transfer though.

>I’m trying to approach this with a “buy nice, not twice” mindset,

Makes sense on some things for sure.It just didn’t feel good to type on – I touch type and it was a bit mushy. Also, when playing games you tend to press keys down (mainly W/A ) at a slightly off angle than the perfect angle you type at. It then jarred a bit, it would register but it just felt a bit annoying.

Got that, very happy with it. But it’s expensive in the US vs others where as it is cheaper here for some reason. But yeah, ultimately the k120 is reliable and will work, but this is a bit of my own opinion and it is a lot on a keyboard when cheaper is available, so fair enough if you go for the k120.

GTX 1060 and RX 480 are very similar, depending on the games you play one will be better than the other in certain titles.

GTA actually is a fair bit better , it could be worth it.

It’s quite basic, but the price is great and it’s fullsized with MX reds!

Unfortunately, you really don’t have a ton of options at that price point where you are. Here is a list of keyboards in the UK with MX reds, sorted by lowest price.

It’s £54 on Amazon. The G80-3000 is also a cheap option, but OP has to be okay with a DE layout. Other options might be a used Model M, or really any other used board. £40 doesn’t get you much in the MK world.

Amazon also does this for under £50 too.

It wasn’t a flashy “gamer” keyboard, but damn it I loved how the keys felt. Normal keyboards just feel too mushy now.

Thanks for the suggestion, I’m saving up for this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cherry-MX-Board-Wired-Professional-Keyboard/dp/B00CITN98G/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1440419151&sr=8-2&keywords=cherry+keyboard

It has Cherry MX, and isn’t much more expensive than the other suggestion you gave.
