[x-post from ScA]

Hello, I am new to using retinol and bought this low dose CeraVe Anti Aging Serum to start with on my sensitive skin.

Starting out, should I stop using my mandelic acid for a few weeks to get my skin acquainted and adjusted to the CeraVe product? I expect the purge to happen in this time. Will I reintroduce the mandelic after the skin calms down from dryness/peeling?

Also, I heard I should not use Peach & Lily’s Glass skin serum while using retinol as well. Something about not mixing actives? Is the glass skin serum something I can use later on after skin adjusts or indefinitely can’t?

What is she using now?

Keep it simple and start with can start with the anti-aging basics:
AM
* Gentle Cleansing
* Chemical Exfoliant
* Vitamin C
* Sunscreen

PM
* Gentle Cleansing
* Moisturizer

If you shop carefully (price match to Amazon at Target and use manufacturer coupons works well) you can probably manage a startup package for just about $50.

After six weeks or so, she can add
* Some sort of Retinoid treatment. A prescription product would probably be cheaper than a good quality Retinol
* Peptide like Matrixyl (optional)

Non-prescription retinoid serums such as CeraVe or Neutrogena would add more to the cost. Matrixyl (from Timeless or The Ordinary) is fairly inexpensive.
