Catit Senses 2.0 Digger Interactive Cat Toy https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B015P13QMM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_3GB6N9T8QH907NHFR33D

The one that I have is not available anymore that I can find, but it is very similar to this one. I also got some cheap plastic mouse toys at Petsmart, and I will fill those with kibble so that the cats have to bat them around to get the kibble loose. Either way, it helps slow them down when they eat, especially the big one. He is my gobbler.

I also have a ridiculously food driven cat who would scarf all of his own food and then nudge his big brother out of the way to eat that too. Oh, did I mention that he would also eat so fast he would throw up? Yeah….anyway, to slow him down, I got a couple of these feeders:

He has to eat a 1 piece at a time instead of steamshovel mode like he used to. It also seemed to discourage the more greedy behavior in that he probably registers feeling full/sated before eating more than he needs.

It’s always worth a shot! This is the one we’re using. He’s got one like you’re talking about that I put treats in but he’s dumb and nudges it under something until he can’t reach it haha

If he’s gobbling up the 1/2 cup in the day while you’re gone, then he very well might be a boredem eater 🤭! Do you play with him in the evening? If so, it might be that he sits on that evening 1/4 because he feels fulfilled by his play time with you, but in the daytime because no one is there playing with him he goes for food instead!

If this is the case, I would try encouraging self-play with small toys such as a crinkle ball or kick toy (a bit of catnip helps this process immensely lol). In the room he’s in, put a cat climber or shelf near the window to let him look outside and watch what’s happening! Also, something I use for my cat to keep her mentally stimulated: put his dry food in a puzzle feeder like this one. This makes it so 1) he can’t eat too fast and 2) he gets to play with his food! My cat loves her puzzle bowl, she “hunts” the food lol

Otherwise, I would cut out that last 1/4 cup of dry food in the evening and replace it with 1/4 cup of wet food (assuming the wet food has equivalent calories to the dry food). This’ll be about a quarter to half a can of wet food depending on the size of can you buy, so not nearly as expensive as a can a day! A feeding routine featuring this would be: 1/4 cup dry food right before going to bed (so he has food overnight), 1/2 cup for while you’re gone, then 1/4 cup of wet food somewhere around 6-7pm. And make sure to feed him that evening meal at a consistent specific time! Hopefully he’ll learn the schedule then learn to regulate how he eats throughout the day appropriately 👍🏻

We have a cat that eats too fast then vomits, and we got one of these to slow her down. https://www.amazon.com/Catit-Senses-2-0-Digger-Cats/dp/B015P13QMM It definitely helps, she has to pull each piece of food out with her paw. It took her a little while to figure it out, but now she’s a pro. Still a little bit pukey but much, much better. I’m actually thinking of also buying another one made by the same company that is shaped like a tree, and alternating them every few months.

If the diet doesn’t work, I’ve heard good things about this feeder curbing over-eating.

It’s a Catit digger, https://www.amazon.ca/Catit-42985W-Catit-42985-Senses-2-0-Digger/dp/B015P13QMM

They sell them in pet stores too.

A food puzzle is a type of toy that encourages play/natural behaviors to get food! You can use them to supplement play or as a way to slow down a cat eating throughout the day. I have… well wayy too many but I recommend this dig toy and/or this puzzle toy! There are also a lot of ball treat feeders at petstores that work as well!

A smaller bowl with one meal’s worth (cup, 1/2 cup, etc). He/She may benefit from some type of toy or feeder that requires or incorporates digging – such as this one: https://www.amazon.com/Catit-Senses-2-0-Digger-Cats/dp/B015P13QMM?th=1

Puzzle feeders! Many, like this one, don’t require much active movement. Make him work for those kibs!

For interactive toys, I’ve made some of them including a snuffle mat and stuffed toilet paper rolls (stuff them with crinkled paper and kibble or treats, let them destroy!). I also use lick mats Lick Mat, CatIt tube toy food puzzles (CatIt Food Puzzel, and hollow mouse food toys Doc and Phoebes Mice Feeders

Cats are natural diggers. I bought him this toy to keep my boy from inhaling his dinner.

There are multiple things you can do to curb the quirks.

Stealing other cats food can be solved with a feeder thing. I’m not saying get those expensive ones that react to microships, but I am saying something similar to that may work.

They also have these amazing slow feeders like the Digger 2.0 bowl https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015P13QMM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_psT5FbE3Z652Y

The kneading pain can be quelled with clipping claws. If she doesn’t like clipping claws, then soft paws https://www.softpaws.com/. If she’s got an issue with paws in general, well, towel burrito wrap the bitch and she’s gonna have to just deal (works for clipping and applying soft paws)

If she doesn’t want unwanted attention then so be it, you can look at her as more of a protector/overseer/supervisor than anything.

As far as stealing your food, may I suggest locking her or yourself away while you’re eating. It may take some time but she may finally get the hint.

Highly suggest looking into a slow feeder. I use this one, the small delay is just enough time for his brain to get the full signal.

Would a slow feeder toy be a possibility? I let my cats forage food out of one and it’s legit just sit and use one paw to get the food out.

This is pretty much my cat arsenal. Not sure if these will work with your man but figured i’d put them out there. I also buy cat sticks for them to chew on but usually you have to supervise them because big chunks get chewed off.

I had one sorta like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015P13QMM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_wRj0Cb1EHC25V

Then one of my cats learned how to pull the tubes out. Cheater.
