I feel like you’re going to spend at least $150 on printing material (also, will it be urine-tight? Don’t want that leaking). Another $40 on sensors and stuff. Another $40 on a raspberry pi and the odds and ends.
A CatGenie is far superior. $270 and you don’t have to replace the litter. Just top up the granules once a month. It plumbs in, so no emptying waste bags or anything. I literally haven’t had to think about the cats litter for more than 30 seconds in the last year, and that was just to put a new box of cleaner in.
There’s also a large hacker community, so you can flash your own programming to it.

Have you tried scoopable litter that you scoop daily? We have 2 cats, a 30 gallon storage bin and 1 1/2 Costco sized bags of Scoop Away litter. Scoop it daily and viola! No smell. Yeah, you get a little smell when they poop, but they cover it and it goes away.
A fan in the litter box will simply deter the cat/s from using the box.

yes, it’s pricey at first, but with three cats it has already paid for itself. I’ve only had to buy 2 boxes of granules ($20 each) in a year, and I spend $15 a month on the sanitizing cleaning fluid cartridge. In return I get maintenance free cat waste management. My cats love that they always have a fresh box, and I was able to go from 4 litter boxes to just this one because it cleans after each,ahem,deposit. Sometimes there’s a line at the potty so we do have a spare box that is rarely used-my cats will wait on the cat genie instead,lol.

It’s not a toilet, but an automatic litter box. I had an automatic litter box years ago and the sound of the motor freaked out my cat.

What about the Cat Genie? I love the concept and execution and reviews are mixed between 5 and 1 which can indicate good product, dumb users.
