You can find loads of 128gb 2230 drives for very cheap, $20-25. But things get bad quickly above that.
I looked only briefly, but this is the cheapest 1tb 2230 I could find at $181: https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-m2-pcie-nvme-class-35-2230-solid-state-drive-1tb/apd/ab673817/storage-drives-media.
A runner up is prying open the enclosure on this for $230: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0855SVCJ2

This CalDigit Tuff Nano uses a 1tb Kioxia BG4 for $220. Pry apart the external drive and you should be good to go.

1TB have been around all year, you can pull one out of this as others have posted. $230 for a 1TB 2230 NVMe SSD, great deal IMO.

Very interesting option. I think I found the one you may be referring to (link below). However, it says it only runs at 1055 MB/s. I’m currently getting over 2000 MB/s with my 512GB drive that came with my SL4. I don’t really want to sacrifice performance to gain space. It would be awesome if there was a Seagate Barracuda version of the M.2 2230, but I don’t see one.

I pulled the 1TB Toshiba out of this;
It’s a bit of a PITA as it comes formatted for a MAC and you have to bit the housing up a little to get it out. Here’s the original thread;
