I was going to post a follow up and forgot! Thanks for reminding me. The solution is to make sure you are using a USB3.0 KM or KVM with this keyboard. The one I bought at Amazon works great!… Remember that it has no video support, but again, I didn’t need that.

It feels weird to recommend this thing, but This is the little 4×4 USB KVM that I own. it’s controlled by an RF remote so you could control in with an RF blaster, and I’ve never had any problems with it, and it handles flash drives, USB devices, and USB dongles without any problems.

Super weird USB cables though. “Micro USB” but a form of it I’ve never seen anywhere else, like it’s some SATA Express but USB.

Also you can only select one host at a time, you can’t have your mouse on one PC and your keyboard on another like a proper KVM might.

I have a Cable Matters KVM and it works well. You can plug a USB hub into one of the ports. I did, and it didn’t just add ports; things that didn’t play nice directly plugged into it (Dygma Raise Keyboard and Stream Deck) worked fine connected to a hub plugged into it. I also liked the remote.

I haven’t found any KVM that does 4K/60Hz over hdmi. I plan on getting a dedicated hdmi switch for that.

For the usb switch, this one probably comes closest IMO. Doesn’t control the kvm through the keyboard, but has a remote that can do the work:

In addition to software KVM, I use this Cable Matters USB 3.0 port switcher. Includes a USB-C adapter and Thunderbolt 3.

I have a 3 PC home setup, so, like you, I didn’t need to worry about monitors for my switching solution. First off, I HIGHLY recommend Input Director (Windows only) or other software KVM for the keyboard and mouse. No hitting a button and waiting a couple of seconds, and you can even copy/paste text between the machines.

Having said that, sometimes I need at least the keyboard connected physically to a PC (like to Ctrl+Alt+Del), and it’s convenient for if I ever want to use my Yeti mic or Stream Deck on one of the other PCs. When looking at options, I knew I wanted USB 3.0, and ideally something I could tuck out of sight.

I wound up with this Cable Matters port switch. It does NOT have audio jacks, if you’re looking for that. It DOES come with a little IR remote and has a power switch, which is nice. Also, there are some items that didn’t work plugged directly in, but I plugged a powered USB 3.0 hub into one of the KVM ports, and they work just fine from that (StreamDeck – must install software on each computer; Dygma Raise keyboard).

Good luck!

Something like this with a powered USB 3.0 hub plugged in to one of the USB ports should work.

You can always use software for the keyboard and mouse if you want, as well. I use Input Director (Windows only, free for personal use), despite having a Cable Matters USB 3.0 switch. I’m even able to use my StreamDeck on multiple PCs with the StreamDeck plugged into a powered USB 3.0 switch that’s plugged into it (have to run the software on each PC).

There are also displayport switches, which you could use in conjunction with a USB switch such as the Cable Matters protect I mentioned.

Alternatives to Input Director include Across, Multiplicity, Microsoft Garage Mouse without Borders, Synergy (can be wonky if you game), ShareMouse, etc.
