They can be pretty inexpensive, I like the Bodum pourover from Amazon. Looks nice on the counter and using 68g coffee to 1000ml water it makes enough coffee for a day for me.

I can get McCafe at Amazon, looks like the same price ($9 for 30oz).

I was thinking of getting this coffee maker – https://smile.amazon.com/Bodum-Coffee-Maker-Permanent-Filter/dp/B00LOCYKIQ/

looks the same as highly rated Chemex but includes filter.

I’m a poor college student too and I got one of these brand-new at a flea market for $5 but $20 isn’t too bad https://www.amazon.com/Bodum-Coffee-Maker-Permanent-Filter/dp/B00LOCYKIQ

Then you just need a kettle

If you don’t drink a lot of coffee at once you could find super cheap single-cup pour-over things on Amazon for a lot cheaper, as others have pointed out.

I mean do you have just a pitcher or any kind of larger container you can put water in?

If you get something like this you can use it to filter your cold brew or to do pourover coffee if you end up wanting to do that. I have the same one and actually did cold brew last night with it. There are tons of dedicated cold brew systems that should work fine but honestly if you’re looking to stay budget friendly you can avoid spending that much pretty easily, literally just need to filter the grinds out after it’s brewed.

Amazon has a deal on a Bodum pour-over maker for $15: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LOCYKIQ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Should I throw $15 at this, or is there a better rig for the money? Would I be better off just buying a $3 plastic melita cone?

first off, dont listen to your wife.. she will defo get you something more than $100.. they always say to limit but than they dont nor they expect less 😛

anywho that been said, yes a bodum Frenchpress for $20-30, a hario hand grinder for $30 and a elctric kettle for 20$ would make freat frechpress setup in less thn $100

or you can check out this $20 Bodum PourOver with permanant filter, a hario/prolex hand grinder and a gooseneck kettle would also make good pourover setup.

Not really a machine, but I’m a fan of using a pour over for Japanese-style iced coffee: https://blog.lacolombe.com/2015/09/17/7733/

I grind my beans fresh and I also use my pour over for hot coffee. I have the Bodum currently <$20 most places.

I bought this porover a few months ago and live it. I will say though I replaced the filter with this one as it londs a finer grind without (as many) grounds ending up in the final cup. Easy to use but said filter is slightly harder to clean, but I think its worth it. Also you don’t need to keep buying filters, which is a plus in my books.
