Sure, just assemble the filters onto the main plunger/cap piece and leave it in a fully plunged position in your press overnight or for a day. I’m hoping the spring coils will keep it pushed against the body of your press to the point it stays that way. However, if it doesn’t, it could be that the spring coils are loose, thus not having as much spring force to keep the mesh against the wall of your press and causing it to warp as you pull upwards. Apologies if my explanation isn’t clear.

And no such thing as a silly question. Yup, when not in use, I usually pull out the entire plunger, disassemble, hand wash (make sure you get all the grinds out of the mesh and get rid of any old coffee oils; you don’t want anything carrying over to your next brew), and leave it to dry. It’s usually recommended to leave the filters in assembled when not in use to lengthen the longevity of the springs, but a day or so to shape out the mesh shouldn’t be an issue.

And it looks like you do indeed have the 3-Cup Brazil according to the description anyways. Worse comes to worse, try contacting Bodum’s customer service with your picture to see if they can send you new filters. Explain that the coils are loose, causing the mesh to drag downwards as it’s unable to create a proper seal.
